This seriously, has to be one of the "Best Gites in Dinan".
THERE ARE STILL DATES AVAILABLE IN JULY AND AUGUST
This property is suitable for families, with a safe and beautiful secluded garden. There is wifi and sat tv throughout the house.
Please note that smoking inside the property is definitely not allowed. There is a fully equipped utility room, washing machine etc. The house is left clean and bed linen, towels & tea towels are provided for our new arrivals. Please note that beach towels are not supplied and that the house towels are not to be taken away from the property.
The nearest airport is Dinard which is about 20 mins by car. Ryanair offer regular flights to and from the UK. Our nearest port is St Malo (just half an hour from here) it is serviced by Brittany Ferries and Condor. "You will be offered a 20% discount for your Brittany ferries travel is you book through Holiday France Direct". Other ferry ports are an easy drive on good roads, including Caen, Roscoff and Cherbourg (all about 2 - 3 hours drive).
The drive from the channel tunnel is about 5 1/2 hours.
The house is located in the heart of historic Dinan, one of the best preserved medieval towns in France. Further afield is the 'must see' Mont St Michel and the historic towns of Fougeres, Vitre and the regional capital of Rennes. The Normandy D Day beaches and historic Bayeaux can be reached in about 2 hours. The high speed train (TGV) links Dinan to Paris in 4 hours.
Dinan is a medieval town surrounded by 2800 metres of ramparts and 12 towers, with its very own Chateau de Dinan, quaint streets and buildings. The famous Rue du Jerzual is a very steep narrow lane leading down to the old port of Dinan but the way back is not for the fainthearted!! (pushchairs not recommended!). There are many good bars and restaurants, one of our favourites being 'La Mere Pourcel'. The clock tower is also worth a visit, climb the 158 steps for a wonderful view of Dinan and on a clear day you may even be able to see Mont St Michel. A visit to the local Tourist Office for info is highly recommended. Market days are worth going to as well (Thursday mornings).
St Malo, not just a port but a beautiful town in its own right, the walled city was heavily bombed during the 2nd world war, but has been wonderfully restored to the original 18th century beauty and is full of sights, good restaurants and shops. There is also a very good aquarium to visit.
Dinard market on Saturday is very large and is a 'must visit place' as is the stunning Mont St Michel, built out in the bay, this town is topped by an amazing abbey, the spires of which can be seen inland for miles (warning..you have to pay an entrance fee when you get to the top of the steps!). The tidal ranges are world famous and it is said the incoming tide can beat a galloping horse! It's about an hours drive from the gite. Rennes is a student town with an old centre full of character, there are plenty or restaurants pubs and shops etc, all easily accessible with the new metro. Many sights to see. We recommend a google search for info on the area before you come and the local Tourist Office when you are here.
These are "genuine reviews" but they cannot be verified by Holiday France Direct as we are new to them (having changed away from owners direct);

My wife and I spent two two excellent weeks here at the start of July. The house is brilliantly located with easy access to all of the cafes, restaurants and bars of Dinan and a quick stroll down the rue to the Port - although the stroll back up the hill is always more interesting. The courtyard garden is a real plus for a town centre location, giving you plenty of room to relax by day and then stroll to a cafe or restaurant when the time comes.
Sean was on hand to welcome us to the house and give us a guided tour. He was also available to answer any questions.
We would definitely return.
A charming house in a stunningly beautiful French town. The house could not be better situated, in the heart of Dinan and so full of character, it is hard to know where to begin. Although obviously a very old property, it has been sympathetically brought up to date and offers everything one could require for a self-catering stay. That said, there is an abundance of good eating places within a short stroll of the house. Unusually for a “town house” the property also has a delightful sunny garden. Helpful and friendly Manager - thanks Sean! Overall, I cannot recommend 18 Rue de Jerzual more highly.
We are old timers in Dinan with family in the area so the beauty of the town is no longer a surprise - but this house is the best we've stayed in and am somewhat reluctant ro promote it too much in case we can no longer get a booking :-). We had a wonderful stay and are about to book again.
Perfect location in the centre so you dont need a car for shopping and eating. House plenty big enough to cope with 2 teenage boys who loved the attic room and had their own space. Great family sized lounge room for time together with English TV - and quality internet for all that browsing and facebooking.

We were delighted with our choice of accommodation in Dinan in 2015, it offered everything we wished for a wonderful holiday in a special part of France.
Rue Jerzual is a typical charming ancient steep cobblestone street which links the old port with Dinan town centre, a MUST walk. The house is situated towards the top end of the street where the wonderful ancient centre of Dinan and the many restaurants, shops, banks and transport are accessible within a couple of minutes walk. The house itself is ancient and full of charm and character, however it has been renovated to a high standard throughout and is well appointed and comfortable.
Although it is possible to drive around the town and outskirts we found that the excellent parking arrangements arranged by the owners allowed us to leave the car and take local buses to many of the other interesting towns in the area including Rennes, Dinard, St Malo etc
We enjoyed our holiday immensely and will be going back again.
Fabulous holiday, loved this place so much. Chose it as it is only 1/2 hour drive from St Malo, beautiful old town on river, but was unprepared for quite how lovely - no. 18 is tucked into a row of impossibly beautiful medieval houses and shops, sleepy feel, gorgeous stroll down to the river, or up to the nearby Boulangeries for baguettes. Easy as anything on arrival to pull up outside house to take in bags, then good very nearby secure long term parking, though we rarely drove anywhere! Spent most of week walking on the many well marked rambling routes, cycling along river Rance (easy bike hire, 5 minutes away by the bridge) exploring town and swimming at local pool , which is heated and 20 mins walk along river in Lehon - beautiful little village worth a walk to. You can also hire canoes. We hope to return!

When we opened the door of 18 Rue de Jerzual, it was like stepping into another time and we loved that. We experienced the ambiance of a 14th century townhouse with the conveniences of 21st century living, especially the modern, well-equipped kitchen, spacious laundry and unusual bathrooms. We felt like locals stepping out into Rue de Jerzual from where it was a comfortable walk to the shops, the library for Internet access, and other historic sites. From nearby off-street parking, there was easy access to routes leading out of Dinan. At the end of each day, 18 Rue de Jerzual was a very nice place to come home to.

In addition to the excellent accommodation, there is a lovely garden where we had breakfast in the morning and relaxed with a glass of wine in the evening. My family and I were quite sorry when our stay in Dinan came to an end. Would stay there again anytime.
The kitchen and dining area is spacious and fully equipped like the rest of the house, it has all the essentials like corkscrews etc.
Very large living room with tv and wi-fi etc.
Description of sleeping capacity: Sleeps 4 but can sleep up to 6 (2 Bedrooms).
The large main bedroom (double bed) has a bathroom en suite.
The top floor bedroom like all the other rooms in the house is very large and beautifully decorated, with plenty of space for camp beds which can be provided, there is also a futon available.
Bathroom 1 - Toilet, bath (no shower), it has a traditional French hip bath.
Bathroom 2 - Toilet, bath (no shower - just shower hose), large newly fitted bathroom.
The large main bedroom has a newly fitted bathroom with bath and a shower. There is also a hip bath in the house bathroom on this floor.
Town gas central heating plus a woodburner.
Outside: An unusual bonus for this type of property.... a graveled garden superb for bbqs and sunning oneself with a glass of wine in one hand and a sausage in the other!
Parking can be arranged in the local multi storey (5 mins away). Please advise Sean if you would like him to arrange a parking permit for the multi storey. (It will cost 30 euros for the week unless there is another price increase!) You will normally be allowed to pull up outside the property to unload and load etc.
Unfortunately the property is not really suitable for wheelchair users.
The "Fete de Remparts" in Dinan is every two years and the next one is in July 2020.
In addition to the excellent accommodation ("plenty of room for a family of six - there is a lovely garden where you can have breakfast in the morning and relax with a glass of wine in the evening.
The house is perfectly situated at the top end of the Rue du Jerzual giving very easy access to the rest of Dinan.
Wheelchairs could be difficult on this hill and in the house.
The north coast is a 20 minute easy drive from Dinan. Where there are plenty of destinations to choose from, whether you enjoy sandy beaches or small intimate coves. From the historical walled city of St Malo town to the seaside resorts of Dinard and St Cast, to the stunning bay of St Briac and picturesque fishing peninsula of St Jacut and the dramatic lanscapes of Cap Frehel. Also, the Rance Valley is a wonderful area of wildlife preservation, with pathways and picturesque fishing villages.
My name is John and my wife's name is Sue, we live and work as teachers in Jersey. We are lucky enough to have a wonderful property in Dinan and one day we hope to retire here. The photo is of Sean and Isabelle, they live nearby and have many years of experience in running gites. Sean is our property manager and he looks after the reservations and will try to ensure that you have a wonderful trouble free holiday in our favourite French home! <br/>

|Why this location?||Dinan, need I say more. Our house is on the top end of the famous Rue du Jerzual which comes up from the old port right into the centre of Dinan, it is ideally positioned for going everywhere. There are many websites to see where to go and what to see in this medieval town, I can't praise it enough!
So, we are close to all that is going on in Dinan and we have our own secluded garden for relaxing, having a glass of wine and a sausage or two on the bbq.
Who could ask for more?
It was Sean, our friend, who persuaded us to let out our French home, he is experienced with running his own gite and looks after some others. So it was an easy choice for us to have him run ours for us. All our guests have left kind words about our home, Sean and his girls. Come and stay here you'll love it.
|Unique benefits of property||The house is tastefully decorated and very well equipped whilst trying to stay in keeping with its character and history. Thankfully it is positioned at the top end of the famous Rue du Jerzual which goes from the town centre down to the port (the river Rance). It is right in the middle of the old part of Dinan and therefore it is very easy to park the car in the nearby multi storey, forget about it and just walk everywhere! There are many bars, restaurants, shops and sights to see all easily found on foot. Two unusual bonuses for this property.... a graveled courtyard/garden superb for bbqs and sunning oneself with a glass of wine in one hand and a sausage in the other! - and Sean the gite manager is available for advice/help etc. He will arrange for you to be met on arrival at the property (give you the wi-fi code), show you around and help you with parking etc. Please note that smoking is prohibited in the house but is possible in the garden.|
We have many favourites and suggest a google search, there will be a list of the most popular in the gite. La Mere Pourcel, Roberts, the Camridge to name a few.
We always recommend either an actual visit or an internet research to the tourism office.
this saves time and helps ensure that you don't miss anything!
Dinan is one of the most beautiful and interesting towns in France.
We had a really good week here and all the previous reviews of the property express it so well that I feel I have very little to add! The gite is just as lovely as it looks in all the photos and descriptions.
Sean, the agent, was very helpful beforehand, answering our various questions promptly, and he met us at the property, sorting out our parking and showing us around. The house itself is delightful, beautifully decorated, and very atmospheric. The facilities were modern and everything was spotless. The garden was a particular pleasure as usually you trade the convenience of a town for any outdoor space - here you have both and the garden was larger than we expected, and as it is actually on the first floor, it is sunny too. The street is pretty and very central, but quiet. Dinan itself was lovely with plenty of restaurants and shops, and there was much to do in the surrounding area.
The property is over four floors and so there are stairs to consider if that’s an issue for you, including broad spiral staircases up to the bedrooms. The street is also fairly steep (although the gite is at the top of it, nearest to the main town). For us, though, that was all part of the charm - we loved it and hope to come back!
