From the calm interior of the apartment look out from the tall gothic windows of the lounge or kitchen on the historic square below and the hive of activity from the little French market, 2 traditional cafe serving delicious food, to the sounds of the church bells on a Sunday.
The property has central heating, a washing machine, tv, dvd and and selection of dvds. Unlimited internet is included in the rental.
If you prefer to cook rather than sample the range of delights in Dinan restaurants or just fancy a lazy night in the kitchen is fully served with everything you need for your own haute cuisine. It has a pine dresser and cupboards, butcher's block and antique breakfast table and all equipped to then take a seat at a large oak refectory-style table and entertain friends or family.
The family area is large with 2 sofas and chair in front of an electric woodburner to create a cosy effect in the cooler months. The gothic windows overlook the hustle of the French square below.
The 2 double bedrooms, with wooden floors with rugs and ceilings sloping towards the windows, both have unforgettable views over the gray/green slate rooftops of Dinan. The windows have pretty voile panels and attractive sheer canopies hanging over each double bed.
Furnishings are simple but beautiful including a stylish French chair and antique pine carved mirror above the dressing table. But there is plenty of storage space with built-in wardrobes and an antique pine chest of drawers.
The recently renovated bathroom in a soft grey tiled finish has a full-size bath and shower. An old porthole serves as the frame for an unusual mirror. There is also a separate toilet.
Central heating with thermostat with warm or cool settings plus the added bonus of a feature fireplace with electric woodburner to create a cosy effect in the cooler months.
Follow the scent of freshly baked croissants round the corner in the morning for a leisurely breakfast in the apartment. Join the French in a café for cup of coffee, then stroll down the Rue de Jeruzal, taking in the many crafts and artisan shops en route, to lunch by the River Rance in the Old Port of Dinan. Relax on a lazy boat trip down stream for the afternoon. As the sun goes down sip a Kir Breton (locally-made cider and cassis) then sample the French fare in just one of the many tantalizing restaurants within walking distance of the apartment.
The apartment is still only 20 minutes from the glorious sandy beaches of St Cast, St Lunere and the quaint 19th century St Sulian is 12 miles north of Dinan which has been featured in many films.
Just below the apartment to the left is the Jardin Anglais where the French stroll and picnic. It is a beautiful setting with the Basilica St Saveur in the grounds and manicured borders and ancient trees. At the end the ramparts overlook the River Range which flows to the coast from the port of Dinan.
Parking is easy outside in the square with a free period every day and inside for around £2 per day or other car parks within 5 minutes walk.
I am a Francophile of 25 years. Dinan captures our spirit and it retains the magic for us all these years on.
