About this property

Riverside Cottage. This cottage/gite is in a town setting.

A beautifully renovated and decorated traditional Breton cottage, with stunning river views set on the banks of the River Rance, a very short walk to the pretty port of Dinan.

The house has been carefully renovated to a high standard and sleeps up to 6 comfortably. Set back from the tow path the house is in an exceptional location, you can just sit and watch the boats go by or look out for the kingfishers and otters that are your neighbours! There is easy access by car to the house, but the port of Dinan is very close on foot - a flat easy walk of about 3 minutes brings you to the port where there is a traditional French bakery, as well as a number of good restaurants and bistros. You can also hire bikes and canoes here, there is a traffic free cycle path running along the River Rance which passes infront of the house.

You can reach the historic centre of Dinan on foot in about 15 minutes - passing up the cobbled Rue du Jerzual (a pretty steep climb, but worth the effort - lined with beautiful houses, restaurants and artists' galleries). Or you can take the car and get there in about 5 minutes.

Dinan is a beautiful, well preserved medieval town, with a fine collection of timber framed buildings, many good restaurants, bistros and individually owned shops. There is also an impressive castle and high stone town walls you can walk around and take in the views.

The beautiful sandy beaches of Brittany's North coast are about a 30 minute drive from the house.

The walled town of St Malo is well worth a visit, as is the stunning abbey of Mont St Michel, about 40 minutes drive.

The rental includes tourist tax and the end of stay clean, linen and towels can be provided for 20 Euros per person.

Normal usage of electricity/gas is included within the rent .

The Owner Recommends

The Coast

The North Brittany coast is about a 30 minute drive away, and here you will find long sandy beaches, sheltered coves and rocky headlands. We like the beaches near St Briac, St Jacut de la Mer, and the long beach heading east from St Malo - great for surfing when there is a swell coming in.
The coastal footpath ( GR34) runs along the whole coastline, and if you follow the path, you'll see some stunning views , and escape the crowds to find a quiet spot.

Cycling

The local area is a great choice if you like cycling - at any level , from beginner to confirmed rider.
The 'voie verte' runs just in front of the house - it is a traffic free cycle path running from Dinard down to Rennes following the river Rance and the canal. You can directly access the cycle path, and cycle down to Evran for a drink or meal or go further into the countryside.

There are also several signed cycle routes close by, and, away from the main roads, the network of country lanes is just ideal for cycling - little traffic and a culture that respects bike riders.
You can hire bikes locally on the port of Dinan or Dinard, or bring your own on the ferry - there is plenty of space to store them at the house.

Saint Malo

The walled town of St Malo is well worth exploring, walk the circuit of the town walls with great views out to sea and down towards the allies and street of the old town. Rebuilt after the war, the town is much favoured by Parisians escaping the capital as well as overseas visitors, who come to sample the town's many good restaurants, art galleries and high end shops.

Walk out from the impressive town gate along the promenade 'Le Sillon' overlooking the large sandy beach leading east to the headlands at Minihic and Rothéneuf. A series of cafés, restaurants and hotels along the front offer an ideal stop for a drink or meal overlookng the sea.
