About this property

Pretty Traditional Granite Stone Farmhouse . This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

The gite sits between what used to be 2 farmhouses, all built from granite with oak beams, the first house believed to date back to before the 17th Century. The gite was originally housing for the animals, and faces what was originally old granite stables. The gite is tastefully furnished in a traditional French farmhouse style. Exposed beams and plenty of character. As the walls are thick granite, the gite stays nice and comparatively cool on very hot days, but also has heating for cooler Spring or Autumn days. The balcony terrace to the front is the perfect place to sit and enjoy breakfast, lunch or supper, as the whole property faces south and benefits from day long sunshine. There are 2 Cypress trees at the entrance of the drive, which leads out to the main paddock area, beyond that, mature oaks lead down the hill to the tranquil river. There are picturesque views across the paddock with beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Ms Harriet Lyons

My partner and I wanted a life change and we have always loved France. We enjoy walking, cooking, gardening, history and culture. We are easy going and sociable and enjoy meeting new people and we are looking forward to welcoming guests to our gite.

Year property purchased 2019
Why this location? We loved the rural location and yet we are near to amenities. We are 30 -40 mins from wonderful beaches, with sea food restaurants, water sports, but also quiet empty beaches too.
Unique benefits of property Quiet, peaceful location but 5 mins from the village that has a boulangerie, chemist, bank, intermarche, bars and restaurants. There are plenty of places to walk and cycle around the property. The historical village of Moncontour is a 10 min drive away. The town of Loudeac is a 10 min drive and has large supermarkets, shops, bars and restaurants and Loudeac forest has cycle and horse riding tracks and beautiful walks.

The Owner Recommends

Erquy is known as the scallop capital and the harbour is nestled in a cove. There is a volcanic rock formation called Pointe de la Heussaye. There is a sandy beach and a collection of wonderful seafood restaurants. There is a scallop festival here also. It has a lovely atmosphere with often empty beaches but buzzing restaurants. 45 - 50 minute drive.

Moncontour is 12 minutes drive and is a medieval village and is on the list of 'Most Beautiful Villages of France'. There are very good restaurants and a pizza and creperie, bars and a Musee du Costume which is very interesting and quirky. Definitely worth a visit.

Josselin is a beautiful medieval town and is a half an hours drive and is a very enjoyable day out. Its is picturesque half timbered houses and Josselin castle. There is a doll museum and restaurants some over looking the river. There are lovely walks or cycle rides along the river or in the forest and things for everyone to do. We love it here.

Dinan is a charming medieval walled town. The town is designated 'Ville d'Art et d'Histoire'. There are many local artists, craftspeople, and local culinary traditions. There also plenty of other shops, bars and restaurants. You can walk the 3km- long impressive ramparts or climb St. Catherine tower for a stunning view. Dinan is 45 min drive at most and and one of our favorite places.
