On the ground floor there is the open plan living dinning room, this has three double french doors leading out to the north, east and south these flood the room with sunlight, on the south there is a terrace covered with a pergola covered with wisteria and fragrant jasmine which gives lovely dappled shade, the room has a high ceiling which helps bounce the light around the room.
The kitchen leads off the hallway, the door to the terrace is facing south, it is not a massive room but has all mod cons.
The bedroom also leads off the hallway, it is set up as an alternative sitting room and has a sofa bed which converts to a double size bed, the en suite shower room is accessed from the bedroom, it has a shower and a wash basin and large mirror.

From the hallway take the curved stairway to upstairs.

Off the landing there are four doors, the one in front of you is the bathroom, this has a full size bath and an over bath shower, a wash basin and large mirror.
The toilet is separate and next to the bathroom.
The third door takes you into the south facing bedroom, which has a small balcony accessed by a glazed door, there is a wardrobe with sliding mirror doors, the bed is set up as a single but can be pulled out to make a six foot width bed.
The fourth door leads into the north facing bedroom, this has a King size bed, there is a wardrobe with sliding mirror doors, the window over looks the rear garden and the pool.

In the garden:
You access the villa via the double gates which lead onto a hard standing for parking. There is a covered area between the house and the garage which we have paved and have turned into a dinning and BBQ space.
We have created large planted beds throughout the garden, the non planted areas have been laid to gravel. The gardens are still developing but have kept us busy for twelve years.
To access the lower garden and the pool take the gate, through the fence, and follow the steps down. These steps are set into the slope.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Diane Parry

David and I are now fully retired and spend half the year in Saint Remy de Provence and the other half in the West Country in the UK. We love to potter about in the garden, to sit on the terrace and wonder at the fabulous blue sky, to watch the little red squirrels playing in the trees, walking in the hills through olive groves, vineyards and drink in the Provencal perfumes and also going out and about exploring the historic towns and villages.

Year property purchased 2006
Why this location? Saint Remy de Provence is such a fabulous place, we have always felt the stresses and strains of every day life just melt away the moment we arrive, the special blue of the sky and the smell of the unique Provencal perfume wafting over us. The town itself is historical and it is central to a lot of different areas and things to do and see. There are a great many vineyards and olive oil producers who you can visit to take a degustation (tasting). The historic towns of Avignon, Arles and Nimes are within easy distances, the Camargue, here you can see the famous white horses (plenty of opportunities for horse riding), black bulls and if you are lucky flamingos also Saintes Maries de la Mer, long stretches of beach, are just an hour away.
There is a small private airfield, The Romanin 6km away, where gilders are launched and they use the thermals over the Alpilles to peacefully soar in the blue sky - very relaxing to watch, if you are brave you can take a flight.
Unique benefits of property Our villa is on a small gated domaine, it is detached and has large gardens with a private pool. The garden is on two levels with the pool being in the lower level, accessed via lavender lined rustic steps, plenty of space for either sunbathing or sheltering under the shade of the oak trees. The upper garden wraps around the villa, there is a pergola over the south facing terrace which has wisteria and fragrant Jasmine providing cover where you can relax and sip local wines. There are different seating areas all around the gardens to enjoy sun or shade. Here are a few of our guests thoughts:
This property is a fantastic villa set in beautiful gardens with a wonderful pool.
A great villa, only 10-15 mins walk into town centre.
The trip to the St Remy market on Wednesday was well worth it and the stroll along the canal was great.
There were ample places to sit and enjoy the many beautiful views of the gardens and we really did feel on our own as it was not overlooked at all.

The Owner Recommends

Weekly Provencal Markets - Occasional specialist Markets

You could visit a different market every day of the week! Each one has it's own character.
A stall full of garlic? Lots of different types of garlic, papery skinned, fresh out of the ground, normal small or very large bulbs, violet or white. Olive oils, olives, tapanades and vinegars of all flavours. Cheeses of all sorts, fresh meats and fish and fresh fruit and vegetables of the season.
Then there are the clothes, jewlery and household goods stalls, some very interesting finds to be found especially on the artisan stalls.
All these stalls spread around the streets and squares of the towns, delightful way to spend a few hours before lunch.

In addition there are occasional markets, some linked to celebration days;
Vide-grenier = imagine car boot without the car, good for a wander around
Brocante = a version of our jumble sale, good for a rummage
Marche aux fleurs = flower market
Route des artistes = held just a few times per year, paintings, sculptures, jewlery, woodwork, leather, crystals all sorts of things for sale. Some stalls with the artist actually working on a new project and they don't mind you lingering to admire their work. Well worth a visit - you will be amazed by the diversity and by their skills.

Restaurants

It depends on your personal taste but Saint Remy has a very wide array of styles for you to try.
Most restaurants will offer a "Plat de Jour" a plate of the day or even a "menu" a set menu at a set price. Some have a lunch menu and another offer in the evenings.
Just a short drive outside of Saint Remy there are a few Michelin starred restaurants, these have their A la Carte menu but also offer lunch "menu/deals" or Buffets, these will require advance booking (if you think your French is not up to this our key holder is more than happy to help you). Two we have visited are Domaine de Manville and Hotel Baumaniere both hold two Michelin Stars.
Wherever you find yourself you will not be short of choices of where to eat; just be aware that in general lunch time for most restaurants is 12:00 to 14:00 and evening meals begin at 19:00.
All tastes can be catered for, from the little Crepe/Gallet cafe to fast food outlets to mid range restaurant to the Michelin starred - we have a list at the villa and our key holder can help you.

Walking in the hills

Saint Remy is located at the foot of the Alpilles, the GR6 foot path(s) pass through these.
It is wonderful to wander through these diverse environments, vineyards, Olive Groves, fruit trees, oaks and pines. Try some bird spotting or enjoy the fauna and flora.
If there are access restrictions due to weather conditions (fire risk) you can still enjoy walks along the local irrigation canals.
