Spacious, Comfortable Villa with Gardens and Pool. This villa is in a village setting.

The Villa is spacious and full of character yet is very comfortable and fully modernised. The location is very peaceful and quiet with superb scenery but the nearby towns of Laragne, Gap and Sisteron are all easily accessible (10 mins, 30 mins and 20 mins respectively).

Outdoor paradise

The surrounding area is an outdoor paradise. One of Europes best hang gliding and paragliding sites at Chabre, Laragne is visible from the main bedroom window and the landing field is less than 10 mins away.

The renowned climbing venue at Ventavon can also be seen from the house and provides endless opportunities for climbers of all abilities. Possibly the best sport climbing crag in the world Ceuse is 30 mins away. There are also numerous gliding clubs in the area. There is a lovely canoe trip nearby on the Durance River. Canoe hire is available.

Within the immediate area there is year round walking for all levels and the Ecrins Massif is 45mins away for some exhilarating Alpine walking with an abundance of flora and fauna.

The Serre Poncon lake is 30 minutes away with every type of watersport catered for. The climate boasts 300 sunny days a year to complement this.

The area also boasts the largest amount of mountain bike trails in France. Directly from the house there is some superb, safe cycling for all ages and abilities, the Tour de France came through here in July 2006 and 2007.

There is canoeing for all on the nearby Durance (10mins) and the best whitewater kayaking and rafting in Europe within an hour at Embrun on the Durance and the Ubaye valley is 45 mins away.

The nearby airfield at Tallard (20mins) caters for all types of aviation including microlighting, parachuting and skydiving.

In winter there are several ski resorts within 45 minutes and other wintersports such as snowshoeing available.



Kitchen and dining

There is a modern kitchen with an electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher and fridge-freezer. The downstairs is open plan and there is a spacious dining area close to and in view of the kitchen.

There are ample sets of plates, bowls, mugs, glasses etc available. There is a double sink and also a separate sink in an outdoor utilities room.

There are frenchdoors in the dining room overlooking the swimming pool and mountains.

Living rooms

The living room is very large with three sets of frenchdoors. There are 2 large leather sofas and a flat screen television with French tv and UK television. The wifi router is also there. There is a large log burning insert which is used to heat the house in winter as well as underfloor heating.

We don't tend to use the living room much in summer as we find we are outside most of the time.


There are 3 bedrooms upstairs all reasonably large in size. Each bedroom has its own unique view of the surrounding landscape. There are good quality beds in each bedroom, one double and 2 singles. We do have an extra double bed that we can put up if you require. There is a modern bathroom upstairs with a large shower and a separate toilet.

Downstairs there is a fourth bedroom with an en suite shower/bath and a second separate toilet. There is a large sofabed from Ikea in this room.

Upstairs there is a large bathroom with an Italian Shower. The toilet is separate.


There is underfloor heating both upstairs and downstairs. In the living room there is a large wood burning insert which then pumps warm air around the house.


There is a large flatscreen television with UK and French television channels.

Garden and outside

There is a lovely heated swimming pool with sliding cover which can be used to keep the heat in at night and to secure the pool if required.

There are gardens all around the house including hedges for privacy and numerous fruit trees including fig and plumbs. At the front of the house there are pine trees which can be used for shade if required.

There are 2 large terraces with sunshades for eating out and a large Weber gas barbecue.

Parking and garages

There is ample space outside for private and secure parking for several cars. The entrance to the house is via remote controlled electronic gates. There are several outbuildings which can be used to store cycles etc. if required.

We are an English family based here in Provence where we have lived for the last 6 years. Before this we came to this area of France for many holidays as a couple and then as a family. We love the fantastic outdoor life and the climate.

Why this location? We love the huge range of different things there are to do in this area and the average of 300 sunny days a year. The landscape all around is beautiful. It's a very relaxing location with several towns such as Gap and Sisteron within 30 minutes. The house is less than 5 minutes from the main route between Gap, Aix-en-Provence and Marseille so it is easy to get around and discover this amazing area.
Unique benefits of property The property was designed by an architect and is lovely and open inside. Outside there are large terraces for eating out and overlooking the swimming pool in your own privacy. The terraces are covered with large sunsceens. There are loungers and a separate sunshade next to the pool. The pool has a cover which can be put in place during the night and it has locking doors. There are gardens and fruit trees all around the house. There is lots of private parking space behind secure electronic gates. The house has one bedroom/study downstairs with an ensuite bathroom and separate toilet. Upstairs there are three bedrooms with beautiful views of the mountains. There is also a second bathroom with an Italian designed shower and seperate toilet. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with an electric oven and gas hob. Outside is a large Weber gas barbecue which gets a lot of use in summer. There is a separate outside room for washing and there is an extra freezer and sink.

Auberge de Ventavon

The hilltop restaurant here at Ventavon with beautiful local cuisine and magnificent views of the area. It is next to the ancient but well preserved medieval chateau.

Tallard Airfield

Every airsport imaginable is possible at this historic airfield including parachuting, gliding, microlighting. You can just enjoy a drink or meal at the airfield restaurant overlooking the runway. It's very popular for lunch.

Lac de Serre Poncon

A huge lake created in the 1960's when the Durance River was dammed for hydro-electricity and irrigation. You can do all types of watersports here or just relax and swim.

Laragne Market

On Thursday mornings there is a bustling provencal market at the nearby town of Laragne

The medieval and historic town of Sisteron

The area is fantastic for cycling at all levels from an easy ride along the local canal to collect a baguette from the local boulangerie at Monetier to a ride to the top of Mont Ventoux and back for the serious cyclist. There is bike hire including electric bikes at Intersport 15 minutes away. As cyclists ourselves we can offer any advice needed and there are guides and maps at the house.

Forcalquier Market

The village of Forcalquier is approx a 45min drive from here with its famous market on Monday mornings.

Gorges de la Meouge

A spectacular waterfall and swimming spot 30mins away at the start of the Gorge de la Meouge. Very popular and well worth a visit for a swim and a rock jump.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sous-le-Puits and would recommend it to all types of visitors. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the house was so much better than the photos showed on the website and was very clean and well maintained.
The owners Simon and Susan couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful and were on hand if needed but otherwise respected our privacy.
The kids loved the pool and we loved our morning coffee,barbecues and glasses of wine overlooking the pool and mountain views.
There's loads of local activities and sites to see including the wonderful aerodrome at Tallard, the citadel in Sisteron, the market in Gap and further afield towards Avignon, we went canoeing and visited the lavender museum.
We mainly stayed at home to eat our evening meal, using the excellent gas barbecue and getting our supplies from either the big Super-U in Sisteron or the smaller, but convenient if we were out and about, Intermarches in Tallard or Laragne.
We did eat and drink in the cafes of Gap and Sisteron occasionally at lunchtime and had a lovely meal at the Indian in Gap and an enormous, reasonably priced pizza at Le Pizzaiollo, pizzeria in Sisteron on two different evenings.
This was a different area completely for us as we usually go to the Dordogne or Charente regions but we really enjoyed the change,loved the drive through the mountains and would definitely come back in the future.

Great house in a great location. 15 mins walk into the old hilltop town of Ventavon with it's fabulous restaurant - which we'd recommend. The views of the mountains from the patio, are stunning and we spend most of our time here. Gorgeous pool. And we loved our evening games of table tennis as it was too hot to play during the day. Welll equipped kitchen and our teens loved the strong wifi and having access to the UK freeview channels. We took trips to La Gorge de le Meouge and also the local lake, both of which the friendly owners recommended us to do. Would certainly recommend a holiday at this house.
