New this year, thanks to a pair of committed hikers, who are also wine buffs, we have borrowed a number of well known routes which all culminate with the possibility of a guided visit to one or more wine domaines with tasting, accompanied by Kevin the owner. Excellent reviews !
We have offered cycling breaks with food and drink, for some time. Lots of clients have managed Mont Ventoux easy distance from the garden, only 6000 feet, wonderful bike rides. Owner has a good connection for the best Bike Hire around!
Kevin, the owner, has connections in the local, sometime highly considered wine trade. Many personal contacts with top notch producers, visits can be very easily arranged ...first one gratis.
There are several spots where the local river is both picturesque and safe for a splash, picnic and sunbathe. Canoeing is a little more distant, but at just over 30 miles away, good prices and safety oriented the Ardeche gorge has excellent facilities for canoeing and site seeing, see especially the Vallon Pont d'Arc
The Chauvet cave is a digitally mastered reconstruction of the actual cave containing 36000 year old art work ,absolutely splendid (cost 55,000,000 Euros and it looks the part, many other underground caverns to explore highly recommended
Within a fifteen mile radius there are many really excellent restaurants to suit every purse and taste, from better than average fast food to sumptious gourmet there is something close at the price. From the exquisite Pont de l'Orme io the excellent value L'As de Coeur. Thro St Hubert, Farigoule, L'Ancienne Poste and lots of others to try. Simply spoiled for choice
Many challenging climbs locally and many more wihin 30 miles, lovely spectacular limestone cliffs, in the Dentelles de Montmirail at Buoux in the nearby Luberon and some difficult challenges near Buis les Barronies
There are a number of stables who hire horses for riding in the vines, one offers wine tasting on horseback, owner has some reservations about that. Les Ecuries Mazet is nearest, in Cairanne 5 km away
25 or so km ,a pictureque small town in several loops of the Sorgues river, tons of antique shops from bric a brac to seriously expensive Interesting!
Tourist trap but geologically amazing and very pretty some very interesting stuff ...a water wheel driven paper making mill ...all working with all gears and wooden hammers and inevitably special paper at prices that are not as special as the process!
Fields of lavender in bloom some are literally kilometres long, if your very lucky you may come across an alambic distilling the lavender oil, try and ascertain whether its lavande or lavandin they are growing!
The world largest gothic building the Palace the French popes built...also had a summer residence at Chateauneuf du Pape, some philistines blew up that Chateau as they retreated north from the American advance in 1944 , Avignon in July has street theatre and allsorts of shows is a small mecca for avid shoppers, during the festival its advisable to park and ride!
In continuous use for some two thousand years, in July the theatre hosts serious musical performances, Kevin, your potential host, had the enornmous pleasure to see and hear La Traviata...with Placido Domingo last year, what a spectacle and privilege! A great variety of highly professional performances, warning one sits on the stone steps of the amphitheatre and it can have serious consequences for the buttocks!
This two thousand year old Aquaduct is now a Millenium site with very expensive parking. It is a serious bit of roman achitecture ....how did they get blocks of stone that weight over three tons up to near the top of this dramatic edifice? Sky hooks??
A marvelous place to stay.
Richard the owner was a generous host and very helpful.
We will be returning.... That says it all
