Local Colour: Fayence has a colourful local market in the village square three times a week. Here you will find local pottery and fabrics as well as fresh vegetables, cheeses and local specialities. Near-by is the local Marché Paysan (Farmers Market) which is open six days a week in the summer. Farmers from the local area bring their own produce fresh each morning to the market. Produce rarely seen at home can be found - white aubergines and courgettes flowers, for example. Eggs sold here are fresh from the hen and you can pick your own salads from a huge variety of leaves. Browse around the shelves of farm produce for locally made cheeses, wines and preserves. Further afield : Cannes, Antibes, St Tropez, Juan Les Pins and the other fashionable resorts of the Cote d'Azur are all within easy reach from Fayence but the coast gets extremely busy in the summer and those who prefer a more leisurely environment may prefer to explore the historical villages in the region - Mons, Callian, Bargemon and St Cezaire. The Gorges of Verdon and Siagne are wonderful sights.
Brilliant. 45 minutes by car from Nice. Perfect setting. Completely private pool, no one overlooking. 10 minute walk takes you to local village of two cafe and a restaurant and 5 minutes more and you are in the next village where you are spoilt for choice. Extremely picturesque. A perfect getaway. Would not hesitate in going back.
We had a wonderful and relaxing holiday at Salandelle. The location of the cottage is excellent - on a hillside with a beautiful view looking southwards across a valley to the distant L'Esterel hills. It is perfectly situated only five minutes walk into the pretty and quiet village of Tourrettes, with two bars and a restaurant, and 15 minutes walk into the larger village of Fayence with a number of good restaurants, cafes, shops and a market three days a week. The accommodation is very comfortable and quiet. It is well-equipped and extremely well-maintained, and has a wonderfully-positioned terrace with a very good barbecue overlooking the small but very good private pool and a terraced garden with old olive trees. It was hard to tear ourselves away but there are many interesting places to visit, including several other hilltop villages within a few minutes drive, the Gorges du Verdon about 90 minutes away, and Nice, Cannes and other resorts less than an hour away. We would definitely recommend Salandelle to others and we hope to return next year.
The Villa was everything we had hoped for - the owner did everything to help make our stay happy and comfortable, the pool was lovely, and the view was amazing. The property was clean and well maintained, the WIFI connection was great and the selection of TV stations were very useful.
Locally, there was a wide selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants a short drive away, with water sports available on the lake. the village is within walking distance, albeit down a bit of a hill, but it has a very pretty square and the next village along has a lovely market and small shops. A drive to the beach resorts are also a good day out as is visiting Grasse and Gourdon.
We would definitely recommend it.
River Cottage is a delightful property in a lovely part of France.
The cottage itself is well maintained and equipped and, with its pool and spectaculars views of the countryside, an ideal place to relax. It is in easy walking distance of the village of Tourrettes and the adjoining small town of Fayence. The latter has a a supermarket, banks etc, together with a couple of good restaurants. Markets are held three times a week and these are well worth visiting. Sitting in a café watching people go by is one of the delights of visiting France, and market-days in Fayence provide a great opportunity to do so.
It would be easy to spend an enjoyable week without straying very far from the cottage. The local area is dotted with charming villages, such as Mons, and spectacular landscapes like the Verdon Gorge. However, during our week at the cottage we ventured a little further and would recommend visiting Grasse and St Tropez (via the ferry from St Maxime).
In short, RC is a charming cottage with all "mod-cons" which serves as an ideal base for exploring the Cote d'Azure: within easy striking distance of the main attractions; but, sufficiently distant to be a relaxing haven away from their hustle and bustle. We have recommended the cottage to friends, and would certainly consider returning.
