There are many family activities to do in the local area with children from horse riding to treetop trails. A trip to the lake Saint Cassien is always popular for lake swimming or hiring kayaks or pedalos. We have been visiting the area for over 10 years with various aged children ourselves so have gathered a good list of ideas when kids want a rest from the pool!
Cannes, Antibes, St Tropez, Juan Les Pins and the other fashionable resorts of the Cote d'Azur are all within easy reach from Fayence. Closest beaches are at Frejus and La Napoule which are lovely sandy beaches.. For those who prefer sightseeing away from the coastline you may prefer to explore the historical villages in the region - Mons, Callian, Bargemon and St Cezaire. The Gorges of Verdon and Siagne are also very picturesque and have some wonderful walking or you can go white water rafting/canoeing down the Gorge if you are seeking more of a thrill! The town of Grasse is also nearby – considered to be the world's capital of perfume where in addition to visiting the local perfume factories you can visit the beautiful 11th century Cathedral.
Fayence has a colourful local market in the village square 3 times a week. Here you will find local pottery and fabrics, jewellery and clothing as well as fresh vegetables, cheeses and local specialities. Or you can just sit at one of the cafes surrounding the square and soak up the atmosphere. Nearby is the local Marché Paysan (Farmers Market) which is open 6 days a week in the summer. Farmers from the local area bring their own produce fresh each morning to the market. Produce rarely seen at home can be found - white aubergines and courgettes flowers, for example. Eggs sold here are fresh from the hen and you can pick your own salads from a huge variety of leaves. Browse around the shelves of farm produce for locally made cheeses, wines and preserves.
We have just returned after spending a lovely week in Villa Sans Souci. The villa was spotless and really well equipped from air conditioning (main bedroom only) to coffee machines and every item of kitchen utensil you could ever want. As it was warm and sunny for the week, we loved having the good sized pool all to ourselves. As Fayence is built on a hill, the view from the outdoor dining area was amazing. The villa has a gas BBQ which we used on a number of evenings.
The town centre is less than ten minutes away by foot, with a good range of restaurants available. Our best meal was in Le 8. They hold a market in the town on three mornings each week.
Overall we had a great holiday and hope to return again in the next year or two.
A fantastic villa , in a great location ,with everything you will ever need, this is not just a villa ,it's someone's home and it shows, fayence is quite busy for a small town but plenty of little bars and restaurants, the market a few times a week is quite busy also,we all had a fantastic stay,
Very comfortable family villa with everything you could need.
We were delighted with Sans Souci. We had a warm welcome on arrival but were quickly left to ourselves to settle in. The house is in an exquisite setting, very private, yet an easy walk to the village which is full of life, markets three times a week and bustling with energy in the evening. The house was a lovely mixture of an original French home, with modern additions, such as the very necessary air conditioning in the main bedroom. It felt much more like a home than a holiday villa. The views from the house were memorable. It was a real treat to have the additional use of bikes and table tennis. We made a trip to Frejus on the south coast but the amount of traffic and tourists were quite a shock after the peace of Sans Souci! We ate in some lovely local restaurants in Fayence and in Tourettes. Everything seemed fairly expensive but this seemed like a combination of the current exchange rate as well as being in a popular tourist destination.
We really enjoyed the long bike ride to Lake Cassien but we did cheat by taking a 'support vehicle' as the cycle back up to Fayence is not for the faint hearted!
We had everything we needed at the villa ( and more). Only negative was a non draining shower problem!
Would definitely recommend to friends and am taking home many happy memories. Thank you.
