About the Owner/Advertiser, Mr Jean-Pierre Darque

Jean-Pierre Darque - I live in Kent but was born in the village of Courset where I have kept many friends. I am a regular visitor to the cottage and a great fan of this beautiful and peaceful part of France.

Year property purchased 2004
Why this location? The property is located in a peaceful hamlet about 1/2 mile from the centre of the village of Courset and its church. This village is at the entrance of the Vallee de La Course which takes you to Montreuil-sur-Mer a medieval town some 25 km down the vallee.

Here are some of the key places to visit and activities:

1. Medieval walled towns of Boulogne and Montreuil-sur-Mer
2. The picturesque villages of la Vallée de la Course and the “Sept Vallées"
3. The Côte d’Opale with its sandy beaches
4. Large cities of Lille, Arras and St Omer
5. Bruges (about 2 hours drive away)
6. La Coupole near St Omer – construction site of V2 bombs during WW2
7. Visitors’ Centre at Azincourt (Agincourt)
8. For nature and birds lovers: Coastal “Parc Ornithologique” (bird reserve) at Baie de Somme and the Nature Reserve at Clairmarais, near St Omer
9. Nausicaa : the superb sea life centre in Boulogne-sur-mer
10. Le Louvre Museum – fabulous new branch in Lens (1 hour drive)
Unique benefits of property It is a charming, well modernised cottage situated in a quiet hamlet close to the town of Desvres on the edge of the beautiful Course Valley, only 40 minutes drive from the Channel Tunnel and 20 minutes from sandy beautiful beaches.

Here is what one of our visitors wrote about their stay:
We have thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Les Marronniers. The holiday home is comfortable with everything you need. The area is not new to us but the small white roads are providing a “roller coaster’ rides through the countryside. Everything is full of spring flowers, blossom but little sunshine has not dulled the beauty. The garden is just exceptional and full of a variety of birds. Had we known of this when our children were young they would have enjoyed the woods. The owners responded immediately to our questions about the property and were obviously intent on making our stay wonderful. Thank you”. C & D B Kent.

The Owner Recommends

Below are recommendations made by our visitors which we are happy to endorse of course.

I will provide our visitors with a guide I wrote with them in mind. They all found it most useful to prepare their holiday and to make the most of it while staying at the cottage.

“A fantastic holiday to a very authentic part of France - just what we wanted! the cafes, boulangeries and patisseries not to mention the stunning landscape made our trip! It was great for us to have a chance to use and improve our (limited) French and sample the local culture. The gite was perfect, the children loved exploring the garden and the adults appreciated the wood burner with a safety glass at the end of a long day. We visited in chronological order Desvres market, Boulogne sur mer, Denlys parc (superb for 2 to 14 years and great value) Auberge du Bon Acceil (near Montreuil - simply amazing food and v reasonable) Azincourt (recommended) Montreuil-sur-mer (ideal for more active type with she walk around the ramparts or ten walls) Etaples (harrowing military cemetery > 10000 graves of soldiers kicked in WW! - Le Touquet - thank you so much” J & L &C & O P South Wales

Here is another of recommendations from our visitors:
“What a great place to wind down! We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and the garden, private and secluded has been the icing on the cake. We will definitely be back. The guide to the area has been really useful. We had a great day at Marquenterre bird reserve and visited the site of the bale of Crecy and Abbaye and Jardins de Vallopire. Le Touquet for lunch not to be missed. List of birds spotted in our garden by these visitors: Jay - Magpie - Wood Pigeon - Collar Dove—House Sparrow - Dunnock - Green Finch - Chaffinch - Great Tit - Swallows and House Mar n in the sky and heard: Cuckoos - Chiffchaff - Green Woodpecker and Black Cap”.

A compact and lovely cottage with a beautiful garden which being November we were unable to use. The instructions are fantastic and the advice on the local area very helpful especially places to eat...
we have visited the area many times especially Montreuil but keeping to the back roads found many interesting villages.
We hope to return in the future.

A delightful cottage in the quiet setting of a small hamlet. There is a large garden area to explore, with a slide and swing for children. There is plenty to do and to see within a few miles of the property, but a car is essential if you wish to get away from the property. The owner provided extensive information on the local area and on the operation of the property facilities.

Owner response

Thank you so much Andrew for your kind review. It is always rewarding for us to hear that our visitors have enjoyed their stay at the cottage. Jean-Pierre & Hilary
