About this property

Wheelchair Friendly Accommodation. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Just under one hour from Calais and in a beautifully unspoit part of France, our cottage has been designed to make life easy for wheelchair users – accredited with Paralysé de France – and is set in the courtyard of our farmhouse.

We are 40 minutes from the sandy beaches of the Cote d'Opale which are easily reachable by car and we are just 20 minutes from the lovely town of Montreuil sur Mer and just 40 minutes from chic Le Touquet Paris Plage. Saint Omer with its canals and cobbled squares is 30 minutes away. The cottage is situated on a rural lane with not a lot of passing traffic, maybe the local farmer and tractor and that's it.

Ideal for a couple or a small family (young children only) it has a comfortable living/dining/kitchen area with full size oven, hob, fridge with freezer, microwave, tv (freeview), double doors to a large family bedroom with double bed and two single beds (separated by privacy curtain) and a large walk-in wet room with spacious shower, basin and wc – shower and wc have grab bars to facilitate access and raised wc seat if needed is available.

There is a flat terrace to enjoy alfresco dining in the summer evenings or just kick back and look at the amazing stars in the night sky ... we have no light pollution so star gazing is a favourite. Walks around the fields at the back of the cottages provide wide open spaces and a chance to spot local wildlife including deer, pheasant, partridge, birds of prey and in the springtime you can see the boxing hares.

Parking is in the courtyard of our farmhouse and there is a dedicated parking next to the cottage if needed.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Sarah Bing

Lived in France for 16 years and we have 3 rental cottages in the village and a beautiful 4th one in the next village. We love saving old properties, restoring furniture and crafting and walking out two dogs in the fields behind the houses or along the fabulous beaches. Children all grown up so now have time for enjoying the lovely countryside, cooking and looking after our guests.

Year property purchased 2001
Why this location? Fell in love with the area in my teens and had a French penfriend, we ended up buying her grandmother’s farm and undertook a major renovation project to restore the farmhouse to its original condition. This area has fantastic walks and sandy beaches and we fall in love with the region every day. Very close to the Tunnel or ferries, our cottages are easily reached and are less than one hour from Calais but offer total peace and traquility in a rural French village.
Unique benefits of property Accredited Paralyse de France in 2004 we welcome wheelchair users or those who prefer their living accommodation on one level. Rose Cottage has a walk-in wetroom with grab rails, a higher wc seat if required and we are on hand to help you throughout your holiday so you get the best time here.

Rose Cottage can be booked with The Barn (both properties share the main farmhouse courtyard) so can accommodate a larger group of friends / family who wish to holiday together but need their own space.

The Owner Recommends

Ramparts and old City of Montreuil sur Mer

No longer on the sea, the river silted up hundreds of years ago, you can walk the ramparts of this ancient walled town which offer spectacular views across the open countryside. Holding hands is almost compulsory as there are no safety barriers so strolling along under the trees or watching the world go by is a lovely way to spend an afternoon whether it be winter or summertime. Drop down into the town centre for a coffee or cake - or both or a hot bowl of soup. Enjoy the old buildings in the town, the many restaurants and the lovely church and the artisans shops including cheese, chocolate and a lovely book shop
