About this property

Beautifully restored cottage in Burgundy village. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

La Maison Rose is situated in a wine-making village perched above the vineyards in the peaceful countryside and rolling hills of Southern Burgundy. The area has good road and rail links to European destinations. We are approximately a 6 hour drive from Calais and within driving distance of Lyon and Geneva airports.

Our recently renovated cottage offers comfortable self-catering accommodation for up to 4 people. The ground floor has an open plan living room with a beamed ceiling and tiled floor. There is a corner kitchen, dining area and sitting area and the shower room is also on the ground floor. Upstairs, where the stone walls have been carefully restored, there are 2 bedrooms - one double and one twin bedded - and a wc with hand basin. There is a private back garden with barbecue, and small front garden; both with garden furniture.

Quoted prices are for 2 people. There is a £52/65€ supplementary charge per extra person per week. Small Winter heating charge.

The area where the cottage is located has a rich cultural heritage, beautiful countryside and fine wines. There are fascinating chateaux and monuments to visit along with a variety of museums offering an insight into diverse topics. La Maison Rose is ideally situated for visiting some of Burgundy's most ancient towns : Autun, Beaune, Cluny and Dijon. The Morvan National Park is close by at 35kms, and some guests have even made day trips up to the town of Sancerre in the Loire valley.

Nature lovers will enjoy walking sign-posted trails and the Voie Verte– running along both the Central canal and a former railway track- has been especially made to provide an ideal environment for cycling. Written guides are available to help you choose your outing. There is a recognized site for rock-climbing in the village, with others at just a few kilometers.

Living in the heart of the vineyards and seeing the seasonal changes is a special experience which is highlighted during the annual grape harvest in September. Wine tasting is a part of life in Burgundy and this can take place at local domaines or, for the less confident, at a ‘cave cooperative’. The cottage offers an ideal base for exploring some of the famous vineyards of Burgundy. From Beaune, you can take the ‘route des grands crus’ through villages bearing the names of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Pouligny Montrachet, Santenay. Or, to the South, follow the Côte Chalonnaise where the villages of Rully, Mercurey, Givry, Montagny are to be found.

There are facilities for traditional sporting activities such as swimming and golf, along with fishing and bowling and, during the summer months, there are a number of music festivals to suit all tastes. For eating out, there are several good restaurants in the area and then there are the colourful outdoor markets, where you can fill your basket with fresh produce before taking a seat at a pavement café and watch French country life go by.

Owner friendly and welcoming. Property nicely refurbished, clean and comfortable. Other than bread van (patisserie) arriving each morning at 1000 hrs, except Wednesdays, village has no other facilities. However, it is a good base to travel out from to the other villages and larger towns-Beaune, Nuits St George, Chalon sur Saone, Autun etc.

French neighbours were welcoming and friendly.
