There were 3 of us - me & my husband & his friend. They were there to fish & I mostly sat by the pool admiring the garden & reading. House & gardens are lovely - there are bits that could do with a bit of updating. but we loved the big kitchen - the bedrooms are nicely appointed & very spacious. Great to have UK TV - especially with the World Cup on. The weather was amazing - so nice to be able to dip into the nice chilly pool! I gather the fishing was good! We didn't do too much else - visited Chateubriant - had a fab 3 course inc wine lunch for 12 euro opposite the castle. Did a massive shop on the way to the cottage then topped up in St Aubin - there is a little shop but not huge choice & very expensive. There is also a bakery & a bar which we popped into. You can walk - about 20mins to another lake La Hunaudiere where there is a creperie - very picturesque - but we went on a Monday when its shut! Very relaxing we could hear the birds & frogs etc - Watch the butterflies & dragonflies - even landed on me. You do need insect repellent because there are lots of them there- some friendly some not!
Overall we had a lovely time & would recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing time. Our hosts were very friendly & helpful - as I forgot to pack towels! Without being at all intrusive. The visits from the furry neighbours were also fun! .
Thank you for your review Sharon. We really appreciate guest comments as we are new at this business.
Please can you advise on bits that could do with updating
Julie & Mick and the furry ones??
19th -26th May 2018 Travelled from Yorkshire using the overnight Portsmouth St Malo Ferry. French travel Toll free all motor way .Returned on the Cherburgh Portsmouth fast ferry longer travel time in France but again toll free and all motor way.Our cottage was clean well appointed and the facilities were excellent with bikes table tennis along with the pool plus snooker and pool tables. Julie & Mike were excellent hosts...Mike a keen angler himself is a mind of information regarding the fishing. We ourselves are reasonable anglers and caught a fine selection of the lakes fish with carp from around 10 lb up to 16 lb we also had some fine grass carp to 17 lb along with a sturgeon which weighed in at just under 17 lb all in daylight .All in all a very enjoyable stay
Thank you Trevor. You were great guests and we enjoyed your stay at oak tree lodge. Thank you for the chats and your ideas on the future of the lake. We hope to see you again in the future. Julie & Mick
We found all to as described in the advert. Mick & Julie were on hand if we needed anything, or information about the local area. The setting of the house and grounds are really nice, and very peaceful. The fishing was OK but the changing weather did not help us much.We would recommend this place if you are looking for total relaxation break, the kids would love it to as the swimming pool looks great, the tennis court and all the extra little bits like Snooker, and all the games for a cold evening available in the house.
Really enjoyable time and left totally relaxed, Will return in the near future.
