Le Manoir is a stunning French manoir within walking distance of a sleepy village. The village offers a pharmacy, small deli/store, bar, restaurant, tabac, boulangerie, and an impressive church, similar in design to Notre Dame, believed to be designed by the same architect. Locals say this was his "practice run" before committing to the splendid cathedral in Paris.
The 5-bedroom manoir was completely renovated to the highest standards during 2014. This lovely property is set in a large private garden with plenty of strolling space and huge trees. Among its unique features is a hand-carved statue of the local saint, Saint Julien.
You'll enter the manoir via the bespoke oak kitchen with its freestanding woodburner, and a breakfast area with large table and bench seating.
The cosy sitting room is a quiet space for reading, relaxing, or watching TV.
The living room is bathed in natural light and fresh air from the French doors leading out into the garden.
There is a ground floor toilet.
A spiral staircase in the tower leads to the first floor and bedrooms, all have their own en suite bathroom.
The Manoir is within a 10 minute drive to the large market town of Châteaubriant where you will find five Hypermarkets to choose from - Hyper U, Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour and Lidl. There is a large shopping area on the outskirts of the town offering every type of retailer and plenty of free parking including a McDonald's restaurant. Market day (mornings only) is Wednesday in the centre of the town, where you will also find the Post Office and banks with ATM's for cash withdrawals. Chateaubriant has a large tourist Office, a Chateau hosting various different exhibitions throughout the season, a horse racing track and an Olympic size indoor swimming pool.
Befitting this stunning Manoir, the kitchen is large and fully equipped. The bespoke light oak kitchen cabinets enhance the charm and period of the property. It has a range style gas cooker, large American fridge/freezer, wood burning stove neatly set in one corner, central island for additional work/prep surface and an area with a large table and bench seating, suitable for up to 10 persons for breakfast and/or informal dining.
We have made sure that you have all you need to enjoy your cooking experience ... plenty of utensils, pots and pans, dishes and serving bowls, toaster and electronic kitchen gadgets including a full sized dishwasher (after all, you are on holiday) and a washing machine ... not forgetting the all important cork-screw!
The Manoir has two beautifully appointed reception rooms. Leaving the kitchen via a central hallway, the smaller, cosy sitting room is on your right. Furnished with French period furniture, this room is perfect for quiet time - reading, relaxing or watching the large flat screen TV with English free-to-air satellite programs including all the major UK channels.
On the left side of the hallway is the living room with period features and a large formal dining area. Double french doors lead to the terraced area and gardens. This is the perfect setting for any summer evening ... aperitif on the terrace watching the sun disappear before entering via the french doors to the formal dining area to enjoy an evening shared among your family or friends.
Both rooms have the original fireplaces for that cosy winter night warmth.
A spiral staircase in the tower leads to the first floor and the five double bedrooms. Each room is uniquely designed and tastefully decorated. All of the rooms are light, bright and spacious. The decor reflects the period with French style double beds, matching side cabinets and bedside lighting. All linen is provided.
All bedrooms are en suite. Each bathroom is individually designed and decorated to match its' bedroom perfectly. The three larger bedrooms have en suite facilities featuring a modern shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet, mirror and a shaving point. The two smaller, yet spacious bedrooms have unique hidden closet facilities which include a shower cubicle and handbasin with mirror and shaving point. These two rooms share an adjoining toilet. Complimentary shower products are supplied. The Manoir has two large hot water tanks to ensure there is an unlimited supply of hot water.
To keep the period and charm of the Manoir, both the sitting room and the living room have their original fireplaces. These are still in good working order and are perfect for setting a cosy ambiance during the cooler months. The kitchen also has a woodburner, neatly tucked in one of the corners, too. But in order to provide a comfortable heat during the winter, the Manoir has been updated and modernised to include gas central heating. As previously mentioned, we have installed two large hot water tanks so there is a constant supply of hot water.
