About this property

Stunning Manoir set in large park. This chateau is in a village setting.

Le Manoir is a stunning French manoir within walking distance of a sleepy village. The village offers a pharmacy, small deli/store, bar, restaurant, tabac, boulangerie, and an impressive church, similar in design to Notre Dame, believed to be designed by the same architect. Locals say this was his "practice run" before committing to the splendid cathedral in Paris.

The 5-bedroom manoir was completely renovated to the highest standards during 2014. This lovely property is set in a large private garden with plenty of strolling space and huge trees. Among its unique features is a hand-carved statue of the local saint, Saint Julien.

You'll enter the manoir via the bespoke oak kitchen with its freestanding woodburner, and a breakfast area with large table and bench seating.

The cosy sitting room is a quiet space for reading, relaxing, or watching TV.

The living room is bathed in natural light and fresh air from the French doors leading out into the garden.

There is a ground floor toilet.

A spiral staircase in the tower leads to the first floor and bedrooms, all have their own en suite bathroom.

The Manoir is within a 10 minute drive to the large market town of Châteaubriant where you will find five Hypermarkets to choose from - Hyper U, Leclerc, Intermarché, Carrefour and Lidl. There is a large shopping area on the outskirts of the town offering every type of retailer and plenty of free parking including a McDonald's restaurant. Market day (mornings only) is Wednesday in the centre of the town, where you will also find the Post Office and banks with ATM's for cash withdrawals. Chateaubriant has a large tourist Office, a Chateau hosting various different exhibitions throughout the season, a horse racing track and an Olympic size indoor swimming pool.

Kitchen and dining

Befitting this stunning Manoir, the kitchen is large and fully equipped. The bespoke light oak kitchen cabinets enhance the charm and period of the property. It has a range style gas cooker, large American fridge/freezer, wood burning stove neatly set in one corner, central island for additional work/prep surface and an area with a large table and bench seating, suitable for up to 10 persons for breakfast and/or informal dining.

We have made sure that you have all you need to enjoy your cooking experience ... plenty of utensils, pots and pans, dishes and serving bowls, toaster and electronic kitchen gadgets including a full sized dishwasher (after all, you are on holiday) and a washing machine ... not forgetting the all important cork-screw!

Living rooms

The Manoir has two beautifully appointed reception rooms. Leaving the kitchen via a central hallway, the smaller, cosy sitting room is on your right. Furnished with French period furniture, this room is perfect for quiet time - reading, relaxing or watching the large flat screen TV with English free-to-air satellite programs including all the major UK channels.

On the left side of the hallway is the living room with period features and a large formal dining area. Double french doors lead to the terraced area and gardens. This is the perfect setting for any summer evening ... aperitif on the terrace watching the sun disappear before entering via the french doors to the formal dining area to enjoy an evening shared among your family or friends.

Both rooms have the original fireplaces for that cosy winter night warmth.

A spiral staircase in the tower leads to the first floor and the five double bedrooms. Each room is uniquely designed and tastefully decorated. All of the rooms are light, bright and spacious. The decor reflects the period with French style double beds, matching side cabinets and bedside lighting. All linen is provided.

All bedrooms are en suite. Each bathroom is individually designed and decorated to match its' bedroom perfectly. The three larger bedrooms have en suite facilities featuring a modern shower cubicle, handbasin and toilet, mirror and a shaving point. The two smaller, yet spacious bedrooms have unique hidden closet facilities which include a shower cubicle and handbasin with mirror and shaving point. These two rooms share an adjoining toilet. Complimentary shower products are supplied. The Manoir has two large hot water tanks to ensure there is an unlimited supply of hot water.

To keep the period and charm of the Manoir, both the sitting room and the living room have their original fireplaces. These are still in good working order and are perfect for setting a cosy ambiance during the cooler months. The kitchen also has a woodburner, neatly tucked in one of the corners, too. But in order to provide a comfortable heat during the winter, the Manoir has been updated and modernised to include gas central heating. As previously mentioned, we have installed two large hot water tanks so there is a constant supply of hot water.

We hope that you will find plenty of activities to see and do during your time in this wonderful area of France. We have listed many under the headings 'Recommendations of what to see and do'. We leave a folder full of all the different types of outings, places, museums, recommendations for your perusal on arrival. Chateaux to visit

La Pays de la Loire is in the heart of Chateau country and there are many historical chateaux to choose to visit within easy driving distance. Take a day out to discover one of the best kept medieval castles in France, the Chateau d'Angers which is the home of the 14th century Apocalypse Tapestry ... or the Chateau de Challain, the 19th century castle commissioned by the Rochefoucauld family and aptly named 'The neogothic jewel of Anjou' ... or the golden roof of the Chateau belonging to the Duc's of Bretagne at Nantes, which houses the museum of the history of the 'slave triangle' ... or maybe the Chateau de Serrant, with its' distinct dome towers, impressive chapel and history including visits from Napoleon and Josephine, and British royalty. With so many to visit we guarantee you will feel spoilt for choice ...

Horse Riding

Horses are considered a way of life in this area of France, and therefore, the Loire-Atlantique has many horse racing tracks, trekking pathways and one of the largest Country and Western followings outside of the USA. We have several equestrian centers in the vicinity. La Chapelle Glain, Châteaubriant, Rougé to name but a few ...

Le Manoir hosts a fantastic bespoke kitchen, but if you fancy eating out during your stay, we have a number of suggestions that we're sure you will be delighted to try ... from those featured in the Guide Michelin to romantic Chateau dining; local speciality restaurants offering Breton galettes and crepes to the incredible value of the Routiers chain offering their 3-course menus and wine for under 10€; or even a riverboat cruise on the Erdre, whilst viewing the splended chateaux built by the Merchants of Nantes during the 'slave for sugar' period of French history. Whatever your taste and budget, we are sure you will find many gastronomic delights in our area.

Theme Parks and Activities

Euro disney is accessable from our region & the quickest & most relaxing way is via high speed rail from Angers. However, we have plenty of activities that easily rival Disney within a short driving distance. The #1 theme park in the world - Puy de Fou is within a 2 hours. This European history themed park has a replica of the Roman Colosseum amphithetre where you will actually experience what it was like to be in the crowds watching gladiator tournements. There is the best falconry display I have ever seen with over 150 species in the air at the same time, a Viking raid on a small village, Arthur & his round table, the Musketeers & many, many more fantastic shows and demonstrations. Try Futurescope at Poitiers for all the futuristic technology rides, 4D cinema etc. Or, Terra Botanica at Angers - a park on the theme of plants.
