I fell in love with France as a teenager and nothing has changed since then!
|Year property purchased||1997|
|Why this location?||Love the area, gentle rural countryside and views, proximity to historic towns of Angers, Le Mans and Tours.|
|Unique benefits of property||Peace, rural peace. Three properties, none of which overlook each other and offer privacy and country views. A gorgeous 12 metre swimming pool, with full height pool cover and seating area around it. Heated and spotless.|
Don’t miss Chateau de-la-Chatonniere, Chateau Rivau and – wacky – new gardens at Parc Monpassant-de-Bois in Allonnes – comes with golf carts for driving around in!
Recommendation No 1 can only be the La Licorne Restaurant at Fontevraud – the langoustines are amazing!
An excellent evening market. A leisurely walk around the stalls in the evening, local wines and delicacies, music and entertainment. The gourmet market in Bourgueil is a good evening out!
A very lively market each Sunday morning, situated just by the chateau. Fish, meat, organic vegetables and more!
Relaxing environment, swimming, cycling, walking, chateau and garden visits. Midway between Angers, Tours and Le Mans.
The best. Lunch at L’Orangerie in Saumur Château grounds and after a day in the life of a gite owner buying supplies and testing the wines of Guy Delanoue – superb!
Restaurant musts – The Moulin Bleu just outside Bourgueil – 10/10. The brochet (pike) was amazing. Les Forges and the Auberge in Place St Pierre both worth a visit and we'd recommend the three cheese gallette at the Rille Lac Crepe.
Several good restaurants within easy reach with a good variety of price ranges.
And I recommend Doue Zoo, feeding those donkeys, the lake at Rille and Villandry and that’s my recommendation for all you holiday people
A fantastic time spent in Le Grenier at Les Mortiers!!
We had a warm welcome from Jean and Mike who were their to help and offer hints for places to visit. We spent a few days relaxing and swimming in the pool which Jessie loved and relaxed on our balcony with a glass of wine when she went to bed. There is plenty of places and attractions to see that our nearby. I would highly recommend Les Mortiers for a family holiday or as a couple and will be recommending to family and friends.
We had a lovely stay at The Grenier in the most beautiful surroundings, swimming pool and gardens. Clean and comfortable with a very warm welcome and lovely basket of essentials. Lots of lovely markets and chateau to visit, The local steam train on Sundays was a hit!
The only difficulty we found was finding cafes or restaurants open for lunch times - they all seemed to be closed. Perhaps best to ring ahead to check before booking or head to the larger towns.
A lovely trip and definitely recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay. It was like home from home with everything we needed (even English TV!). It's set in stunning countryside within a short walk to the local village to buy essentials. Perfect relaxation, yet a short drive away from the towns and attractions.
Jean and Mike are really friendly and welcoming, - we will definitely be returning.
