I fell in love with France as a teenager and nothing has changed since then!
|Year property purchased||1997|
|Why this location?||Love the area, gentle rural countryside and views, proximity to historic towns of Angers, Le Mans and Tours.|
|Unique benefits of property||Peace, rural peace. Three properties, none of which overlook each other and offer privacy and country views. A gorgeous 12 metre swimming pool, with full height pool cover and seating area around it. Heated and spotless.|
Don’t miss Chateau de-la-Chatonniere, Chateau Rivau and – wacky – new gardens at Parc Monpassant-de-Bois in Allonnes – comes with golf carts for driving around in!
Recommendation No 1 can only be the La Licorne Restaurant at Fontevraud – the langoustines are amazing!
An excellent evening market. A leisurely walk around the stalls in the evening, local wines and delicacies, music and entertainment. The gourmet market in Bourgueil is a good evening out!
A very lively market each Sunday morning, situated just by the chateau. Fish, meat, organic vegetables and more!
Relaxing environment, swimming, cycling, walking, chateau and garden visits. Midway between Angers, Tours and Le Mans.
The best. Lunch at L’Orangerie in Saumur Château grounds and after a day in the life of a gite owner buying supplies and testing the wines of Guy Delanoue – superb!
Restaurant musts – The Moulin Bleu just outside Bourgueil – 10/10. The brochet (pike) was amazing. Les Forges and the Auberge in Place St Pierre both worth a visit and we'd recommend the three cheese gallette at the Rille Lac Crepe.
Several good restaurants within easy reach with a good variety of price ranges.
And I recommend Doue Zoo, feeding those donkeys, the lake at Rille and Villandry and that’s my recommendation for all you holiday people
Really fabulous holiday cottage in a great location, near to the village so you can cycle or walk there where there is a shop, pub and bread shop. Cycles to borrow so we went to the local lake too. The pool is brilliant and has a cover so we could even use when there was a little rain. Jean and Mike are the perfect hosts, there when you need them but not invasive. they have loads of good tips on places to go and will book in advance for you. We visited Saumur, Langeais and the vineyards. I would recommend to anyone a stay here.
After 50 years of holiday travel which has included all 5 of the habitable continents we are in agreement that Les Mortiers tops our list of places we have stayed. Everything about the holiday was excellent from the minute we made the booking to waving our goodbyes at the end of our stay. The Grange more than lived up to the descriptions on the web site and Jean and Mike, our hosts, have spared no expense in providing everything you could possibly need. As we are all in our 70's we particularly appreciated Egyptian Cotton sheets on a bed more comfortable than our own at home. For us the location was just what we had hoped quiet, and relaxing yet with easy access to everything that the Loire Valley is famous for. Mike and Jean were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. We shall certainly return.
Such a fantastic holiday home so clean and tidy and had everything we needed for our 11 month old baby they had a lovely cot, changing station, plastic cutlery and a really good highchair. For the adults the games and bbq area were perfect. The pool area was lovely and the pool was huge with lots of floats and pool toys . The owners were very relaxed and available if you needed anything (like directions to towns markets ect). We will defiantly return to this lovely French home.
