The Owner Recommends

A Market Almost Every Day

La Touche is surrounded by markets, small and large. Tuesday in Bourgueil is idyllic with the freshest of everything including a wonderful cheese stall

You can be ferried upstream and canoe back down - on the |Loire and also the Vienne

Cycling along the Loire

There are long beautiful stretches of France's longest river that have been specially adapted for cycling - and there are (some) bikes at La Touche. You will probably need a bike rack for the car though

Golf Courses

There are 2 good courses near La Touche and you do not have to become a member to play

Horse Shows and Riding

Saumur is the national centre of 'equitation'. Gizeux Chateau - just a few minutes' drive has horses you can ride

Many restaurants and a Good Range of Price

We will give you full details of all the best ones when you book

From mushrooms and tanks to the Loire in miniature and Sleeping Beauty's castle - and lots more

The Best Chateaux of the Loire

From family run small ones such as Gizeux to perhaps the most famous of them all - Chenonceau, there are dozens of wonderful castles to visit

La Touche is right in the middle of wonderful countryside including open fields and shady woods - bring your walking shoes

Reds and Whites (dry and sweet) and Rose virtually on the door step. We have good contacts and can recommend you the best

I cannot recommend La Touche highly enough. Situated in the heart of the Loire Valley surrounded by huge rolling fields full of gorgeous sunflowers and fruit trees. The occasional thunderstorms are spectacular. I have over the years stayed in all 3 of the main gites and all are of a high standard. My recent stay in Gite 3 was a particular treat. Perfect for the single traveller or a couple it has views on all sides - you can sit outside on a warm summer's evening and watch fantastic sunsets with a glass of chilled local rose. Great opportunities for walking and cycling and a good well maintained swimming pool with plenty of space and lounging facilities. La Touche has a number of properties but privacy and noise are not a problem and it's very safe for children. The hosts, Penny and Peter , are attentive but unobtrusive and a fount of knowledge on the best way to explore the area including local restaurants and vineyards. Fresh bread and croissants delivered every morning and wonderful local produce available from local markets. Great. This really is a place to chill.
