Original Features Meet Modern Conveniences:
Situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, our 3-bedroom gite has undergone 3 years of transformation since we bought it in 2012. Once a rundown ruin, it’s now a cozy and comfortable home that combines original charm and character with modern conveniences.
When you walk through the front door you’ll immediately notice the restored inglenook fireplace, log burner and original oak beams. But you’ll also notice modern soft furnishings, a 32-inch LCD television, and good lighting. Picture yourself the next morning, lounging on the large sofa, sipping coffee in front of the warm fire!
If you’re the kind of person who likes to remain plugged into the world, then you’ll find high speed wi-fi and a television equipped with UK Freesat and dvd player, allowing you to watch all the UK channels whilst in France!
The large and airy kitchen is equipped with range cooker, dishwasher, microwave and all the cookware you could need. There is also an oak dining room table that comfortably seats 6 people. As one of our past guests said:
“I adored the huge kitchen dining room. The cooker is just fabulous. We happily bought local produce and cooked most evenings - the facilities were so good.”
If you’d like to know where to find that local produce, we can help direct you. We also have a peach tree in the garden and you’re welcome to help yourself, when in season. And, a short walk away, are acres of apple orchards. You can’t help yourselves to those, but we’ll tell you where to buy them!
In fact, we’ll answer any questions you have about the local area, from the best wine tours to the local family restaurants. My parents, John and Cynthia, live around 10 minutes away and we provide you their phone number should you have any questions. Don’t worry; they’ll leave you in peace during your stay!
Bedroom and Bathroom Configuration
Our gite has three bedrooms, one downstairs, and two upstairs.
Bedroom one is located on the ground floor, with king bed, oak furniture and an en-suite bathroom containing a rain / massage shower, toilet, hand basin and heated towel rail. This downstairs bathroom can also be accessed from the lounge (both doors have their own keys!)
Bedroom two is located on the first floor, with a king bed and plenty of storage. It benefits from being a dual aspect room, with original oak beams, stretching from the front of the house to the back.
Bedroom three, located across the sunlit hallway, has two single beds, and original oak beams.
Both the second and third bedrooms have a juliet balcony, adding to the character of the gite, and provide views over the church, village allotments, and surrounding countryside. These are false balconies named after Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. With the windows open they have the appearance of balconies.
The upstairs bathroom has a rain / massage shower, toilet, hand basin and heated towel rail.
The Outside Space
Outside is a private courtyard and garden, including our very own peach tree, which you’re free to pick from! On sunny days the garden is bathed in sunlight throughout the day, with the patio offering some welcome shade in the afternoon.
In the summer, as the day draws to a conclusion, sit yourself down on the patio furniture, pour a glass of something cool, and unwind in peace whilst your partner starts the bbq! We provide utensils, fuel and matches.
Beyond La Pellerine
We are ideally located in the heart of the Loire Valley, just 28 miles from Tours, and 20 miles from Saumur.
The region has plenty to keep your entire group entertained. For the culture vulture we have wine tours, historic chateaux, and the famous Loire River, and more. If you have a more active side, there are some interesting walks and bike rides from the gite.
We love sharing our local knowledge with all our guests. If you have any questions about the historic sites, wine tours, restaurant recommendations, local markets, and more, please let us know. We’re happy to discuss your plans and advise on the best options for your group!
We are about 3 hours by car from the ferry ports of Caen, St Malo, Cherbourg, and Le Havre. Calais and the Eurotunnel are about five to six hours by car. If you are planning to use Brittany Ferries, please contact us before booking and we can extend a discount of up to 10% off the ferry costs.
If flying to the region, there are major airports at Tours, Nantes and Paris. Companies like FlyBe fly into many of the smaller airports in the region, such as Rennes and Deauville, which are approximately three hours away by car.
Please do contact us with any questions, or to book your stay. We're happy to help!
We have a number of Trip Advisor reviews, some of which I have shown below:
March 2016 - Ross
Perfect rural retreat within easy distance of Loire wine areas, Châteaux and main towns. Well equipped, comfortable accommodation with large kitchen dining area, sitting area with log-burner and 3 good sized bedrooms.
September 2015 - Martina:
Myself and my husband stayed in this amazing gite in September. The photos and description do not do it justice I feel. There was a huge amount of gites we could have chosen from - but we are so glad we booked Le Pecher.
The gite is situated in a small village close to Saumur. It is newly refurbished and everything is finished to the highest standards. Every single item is top quality - which made such a difference to our holiday. I adored the huge kitchen dining room. The cooker is just fabulous. We happily bought local produce and cooked most evenings - the facilities were so good. We loved the big log fire - which we lit one chilly evening. I can only imagine how cosy this would be in late Autumn/Winter. Wifi was really good and it was great to have all the UK TV channels.
The gite was so well maintained, clean and fresh. We live in the city - and it was such a treat for us to relish the complete peace and tranquility of the area.
Outside there is a lovely garden - complete with patio area, furniture and BBQ (the owners even left utensils, fuel and matches for us). We were lucky enough to get the last warm peaches from the peach tree in the garden. Just a few steps from the gite - are acres of the most gorgeous orchards. It was quite an experience to see so many trees full of bright red apples - ready for harvesting.
We felt the gite was very well situated for doing day trips - we went somewhere different every day - never more than an hours drive. We did the Gratien and Meyer vineyard tour in Saumur - great value. We really liked Saumur too - full of atmosphere. You are spoilt for choice with the variety of chateaux in the area. Our favourites were Chambord and Chenonceau. The nearby village of Noyant was very handy - we loved the Friday morning market there. The produce was really good. There are also quite a few hypermarkets nearby - very handy for buying goodies to bring home - which we did in abundance!!!!!
This gite is a true home from home - every tiny detail has been thought through. Mark (the owner) was a delight to deal with from the first enquiry right down to contacting us on our return to make sure everything went well. John and Cynthia, who look after the property were wonderful - the gorgeous welcome basket and their local knowledge was much appreciated.
I could not recommend this property highly enough. We really enjoyed our time here. Next time I would consider returning with our adult children/extended family. It is so much more than a vacation rental.
We had a lovely week relaxing at the Gite It had everything we needed and more including good WiFi (very useful for planning trips) and english TV. The garden is quite private and we enjoyed spending the warm evenings outside with a glass of wine peacefully watching the views.
Our gite kitchen is a very light and modern one, with brand new high gloss white units. We have made sure that it has all the facilities you need to have a great holiday - such as range cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave and washing machine.
There is a large oak table which has plenty of seating for six.
If you don't fancy cooking there is a fabulous restaurant just a few hundred up the quiet country lane, that will do a buffet starter, main course, sweet, cheese, coffee and wine for only 12 euros.
The lounge is fully equipped to make sure you feel at home - we have provided very comfortable settees that seat six people. There is a 32"lcd tv with UK Freesat and dvd, along with some dvds, games and books for you to enjoy. The log burner housed in a restored inglenook fireplace will provide plenty of warmth during those colder spells. The original oak beams and one hundred year old terracotta tiles all add to the ambience of our gite. We have also provide free wi-fi so that you can keep in touch with home.
We have made sure that we have a downstairs en suite king bedroom for those of you like me who struggle with stairs. This bedroom has plenty of oak storage units for all your holiday needs. Upstairs we have two more bedrooms, one king that stretches from the front of the house to the back and a nice twin that again has plenty of storage. Both bedrooms have the original oak A-frame showing.
The gite has 2 shower rooms - 1 downstairs / 1 upstairs. They have the normal items you require in a holiday gite to have a great holiday - rain & massage shower, heated towel rail, toilet and hand basin. The downstairs shower room is en suite to the king bedroom, but can also be accessed from the lounge - don't worry there are locks on both doors!
There is a warm and cosy logburner in the lounge, which will quickly warm the whole gite. All bedrooms have electric heaters and the shower rooms have heated towel rails. During the cooler months we provide an initial set of logs and kindling to get you started.
32" HD tv with UK FREESAT, free wi-fi, some dvd's to watch, as well as plenty of books & games to enjoy.
The local area has an outdoor swimming pool in Noyant, as well as a number of man made beaches - do ask me for directions.
There is a private patio that can be accessed from the lounge or the kitchen - this provides a shady spot in the afternoon - which can be a blessing in the heat of the French summer afternoon sun. There is a fairly large garden that is laid to grass and has a few trees - if you are lucky enough to be there when the peach tree is full of peaches, then feel free to have a few - they are delicious.
The gite is on the edge of a small village, which has very quiet and surrounded by apple orchards and countryside. There are loads of country walks direct from the gite, as well plenty of cycling on quiet local roads.
Parking for 2 cars behind a lockable gate.
The gite is suitable for those people who struggle with stairs, as there is a downstairs en suite king bedroom.
There are a couple of steps down to the kitchen from the lounge.
Not really suitable for someone in a wheelchair who cannot walk at all, as due to the age of the gite, some doors are fairly slim.
My name is Mark and I live near Southampton in England with my wife Suzanne.
|Year property purchased||2012|
|Why this location?||We bought this gite in this area, because it is a beautiful part of France, the Loire Valley has a micro climate, so is warm and sunny most of the year. The Also my parents live near by, so we use the gite when visiting them. The gite is very close to all that the Loire Valley has to offer, but on the edge of a small village, so nice and peaceful.
You will find that the French are a very bunch, especially if you try out your French!
Another key point for us, is that my parents live within five miles of the gite, so they can keep an eye on it, as well as help our guests when needed.
|Unique benefits of property||We have completely restored the gite over the last three years, installing all mod cons such as log burner, dishwasher and range cooker - but have kept as much as the original features as possible - so you can see the restored ingle nook fireplace, the one hundred year old oak beams and the original terracotta tiles. Upstairs there are huge A-frames that support the roof.
We have now had a few visitors to our gite, having started to rent it last year for the first time.
All of them have given it 5* on Trip Advisor - you can see those reviews under the general description - but the main comments are:
"amazing gite" "top quality" "large kitchen diner" "perfect rural retreat" "cooker just fabulous" "gorgeous welcome basket" "local knowledge" "owners were very friendly" "we are so glad we booked Le Pecher"
This chateau is just south of Saumur and is definitely worth a visit. Chateau de Breze prior to the 15th century was entirely underground, with everything from living quarters to a fully working kitchen. A lot of the underground is accessible - just watch your head. The part above ground today is beautiful but exploring this "chateau beneath a chateau" was fascinating!
Located above Saumur, it gives great views of the town and the Loire river. It is undergoing extensive renovation, so check before going as it is not always open.
Never been there? Well you don't know what you are missing - gladiators / romans / musketeers / vikings - fantastic place - for all ages - this attraction is only 1.5 hours from our gite, so perfertly doable for a nice day trip. One tip - if you don't speak French, get a headset - there is a lot of commentary.
This is an amazing zoo - just 40 minute drive from our gite.
