About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Karen Anderson

We have enjoyed every minute of meeting and greeting some lovely people.

Owner's website
Year property purchased 2004
Why this location? We fell in love with the countryside and the views that came with this property, nothing is too far away. Our property is less than 2 hours away from St Malo, 1 hour from Rennes, 1 hour from Nantes, 1 hour from Tours, 1 hour from Le Mans, 30 minutes from Angers and 5 minutes from Le Lion D'Angers.

The Anjou region of France is such a wonderful area, lots of vineyards, chateaux, tow path along the rivers to walk or cycle by pretty villages and magnificent towns to explore.
Unique benefits of property Our gites may be in a rural location in a tranquil setting, but all amenities are close by and travelling here from the UK is easy, either by plane or boat. Airports nearby, Nantes, Rennes, Tours and Angers and travelling by car via St. Malo, Caen, Calais or Roscoff across the channel.

Our guests tell us that they can't believe how beautiful and tranquil it is and that the photographs do not do it justice (something for us to work on).

The pool area is fenced in with enough sunloungers to go round, it is south facing so you can enjoy hours of sunshine with just the sounds of nature as soon as you arrive.

Last year we installed a boules area for our guests to enjoy, it has proved to be very popular.

Angers 30km (approx 30 minute drive)

The department of Maine et Loire (49) covers a territory to the north and south of the Loire. This is the heart of the region known as Anjou and its capital Angers is one of the great historic cities in the Loire valley.

Anjou was the fief of the Angevins better known as the Plantagenets, who, starting with Henry II, ruled England for three centuries. Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their son Richard the Lionheart are buried at the Abbey of Fonevraud which is situated between Saumur and Chinon.

The great chateau in Angers is one of the biggest medieval fortresses in Europe and is situated on a rocky ridge overhanging the River Maine. Originally the site of ninth century fortress, the enormous chateau dates from the early part of the thirteenth century. With 17 towers, the chateau spreads across nearly 7 acres of ground. At the end of the eighteenth century, it was used as a military garrison and a military academy was established to train young officers. Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, best known for his defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo, was trained here. The Chateau now houses a museum with the oldest and largest collection of medieval tapestries in the world, including the 104m long fourteenth century Apocalypse Tapesry.

Angers also has one of the greatest liqueurs, the famous orange liqueur, Cointreau, this has been produced in Angers since the middle of the nineteenth century. The cointreau recipe is still a closely guarded secret.

There are also different markets to visit every day except for Mondays.

On a scale from 1-10 this was definitely an 11. This gite exceed our expectations, really well equipped everything had been thought of. Setting was lovely, pool excellent, outside space well maintained. Even better than in the pictures. Karen and Andy where excellent hosts with lots of local knowledge. Visited as a family of 5 with children aged 13 to 20. Would definitely recommend and return.

10 / 10 Fox family 13 August, 2018

The gite was immaculate and had everything we required for our stay. The hosts Andy and Karen were delightful hosts who were extremely helpful organising trips, watching the planets and providing skewers for our prawn kebabs! They really have thought of everything! There is lots to do in the local area all within a 30 min drive - Angers, Lion de Angers, Loisirs at St Auban, retail therapy at A’Toll and a host of local Chateaus. The pool area is also devine - lovely and clean and safe for children. The setting is peaceful and relaxing and you are instantly calmed and transported into holiday mode. Our only regret was that we didn’t book two weeks! Thank-you again Andy and Karen for allowing us to share your wonderful home. P.S. Versailles is also manifique!

Owner response

Thank you for your lovely comments, we were only too happy to be of assistance, and we are pleased that you all had a great time in our gite. Very jealous that you got to visit Versailles too. Hope you see you again, enjoy the rest of the summer. A & K.
