Owner's website
Year property purchased 2004
Why this location? We fell in love with the countryside and the views that came with this property, nothing is too far away. Our property is less than 2 hours away from St Malo, 1 hour from Rennes, 1 hour from Nantes, 1 hour from Tours, 1 hour from Le Mans, 30 minutes from Angers and 5 minutes from Le Lion D'Angers.

The Anjou region of France is such a wonderful area, lots of vineyards, chateaux, tow path along the rivers to walk or cycle by pretty villages and magnificent towns to explore.
Unique benefits of property Our gites may be in a rural location in a tranquil setting, but all amenities are close by and travelling here from the UK is easy, either by plane or boat. Airports nearby, Nantes, Rennes, Tours and Angers and travelling by car via St. Malo, Caen, Calais or Roscoff across the channel.

Our guests tell us that they can't believe how beautiful and tranquil it is and that the photographs do not do it justice (something for us to work on).

The pool area is fenced in with enough sunloungers to go round, it is south facing so you can enjoy hours of sunshine with just the sounds of nature as soon as you arrive.

Last year we installed a boules area for our guests to enjoy, it has proved to be very popular.

Angers 30km (approx 30 minute drive)

The department of Maine et Loire (49) covers a territory to the north and south of the Loire. This is the heart of the region known as Anjou and its capital Angers is one of the great historic cities in the Loire valley.

Anjou was the fief of the Angevins better known as the Plantagenets, who, starting with Henry II, ruled England for three centuries. Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their son Richard the Lionheart are buried at the Abbey of Fonevraud which is situated between Saumur and Chinon.

The great chateau in Angers is one of the biggest medieval fortresses in Europe and is situated on a rocky ridge overhanging the River Maine. Originally the site of ninth century fortress, the enormous chateau dates from the early part of the thirteenth century. With 17 towers, the chateau spreads across nearly 7 acres of ground. At the end of the eighteenth century, it was used as a military garrison and a military academy was established to train young officers. Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, best known for his defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo, was trained here. The Chateau now houses a museum with the oldest and largest collection of medieval tapestries in the world, including the 104m long fourteenth century Apocalypse Tapesry.

Angers also has one of the greatest liqueurs, the famous orange liqueur, Cointreau, this has been produced in Angers since the middle of the nineteenth century. The cointreau recipe is still a closely guarded secret.

There are also different markets to visit every day except for Mondays.

We stayed with our 10yo son for a week, what a splendid gite and location!
Karen and Andy are very friendly and are fantastic hosts.
The gite is tastefully decorated with a blend of tradition and all mod cons.
Location is fantastic, local shops and supermarket are a short drive away.
Fantastic facilities for both kids and adults, good pool and the the setting is stunning.
Great cycle lanes along the river, suitable for all types of bikes.
Good variety of interesting places and activities to do.
Perfect, thank you!

A warm welcome from Andrew & Karen.....With a welcome pack including Karen's home made Walnut & Pear Chutney from their own orchard. The Gite was in a beautiful setting and was light, airy with lovely select furniture old and new. A BBQ ready for use. A nice safe garden and play area for children away from where guests cars are parked. Fabulous pool which we spent a lot of time in....the late night swim was fun for all kids and guests there and lots of things to do in the area. Big local supermarket 3 miles away for most things. The Mayenne river was beautiful for walks, cycles, villages, kayaking etc, as was Angers Cathederal and Chateau with Apocalypse Tapestry. The Lake at Pouence with it's man made beach, kayaking, SUP and fun inflatable Aquaparc was a find.

We would definitely recommend this accommodation and setting and was good value for money. Andy and Karen have several properties for various size families and also two gites with downstairs bedrooms and walk in showers for elderly or disabled guests. They have thought about everything and their attention to detail shows.
