About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Karen Anderson

I am originally from the UK but have lived in Jersey for over 33 years and frequently travel between France and Jersey. I am married to Andrew and we have 2 grown up children. We bought this property in 2004. Last year we completed renovating 4 barns which was let for the first time. We enjoyed every minute of meeting and greeting some lovely people.

Year property purchased 2004
Why this location? We fell in love with the countryside and the views that came with this property, nothing is too far away. Our property is less than 2 hours away from St Malo, 30 minutes from Angers and 5 minutes from Le Lion D'Angers.
The Anjou region of France is such a wonderful area, lots of vineyards, chateaux, rivers to walk or cycle by pretty villages and magnificent towns to explore.
Unique benefits of property Our gites maybe in a rural location in a tranquil setting, but all amenities are close by and travelling here from the UK is easy, either by plane or boat. There are 3 airports nearby, Nantes, Rennes and Angers and travelling by car via St. Malo, Caen, Calais or Roscoff across the channel. The pool area is south facing so you can enjoy hours of sunshine with just the sounds of nature as soon as you arrive.

Angers 30km (approx 30 minute drive)

The department of Maine et Loire (49) covers a territory to the north and south of the Loire. This is the heart of the region known as Anjou and its capital Angers is one of the great historic cities in the Loire valley.

Anjou was the fief of the Angevins better known as the Plantagenets, who, starting with Henry II, ruled England for three centuries. Henry II, his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, and their son Richard the Lionheart are buried at the Abbey of Fonevraud which is situated between Saumur and Chinon.

The great chateau in Angers is one of the biggest medieval fortresses in Europe and is situated on a rocky ridge overhanging the River Maine. Originally the site of ninth century fortress, the enormous chateau dates from the early part of the thirteenth century. With 17 towers, the chateau spreads across nearly 7 acres of ground. At the end of the eighteenth century, it was used as a military garrison and a military academy was established to train young officers. Arthur Wellesley, First Duke of Wellington, best known for his defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo, was trained here. The Chateau now houses a museum with the oldest and largest collection of medieval tapestries in the world, including the 104m long fourteenth century Apocalypse Tapesry.

Angers also has one of the greatest liqueurs, the famous orange liqueur known as Cointreau, this has been produced in Angers since the middle of the nineteenth century. The cointreau recipe is still a closely guarded secret.
