|La Mustrie||Self Catering||Flexible||7||16||6||Two extra single beds|
Set in the Loire valley near to the Anjou wine capital of Saumur. This lovely restored 14th century farmhouse is ideal for exploring the region with it's chateaux, vineyards and forests that follow the river Loire as it heads towards the sea. Set in 8 hectares with more than a kilometer of river at it's foot La Mustrie has been restored to a high standard.
The house is on 2 levels which can be separated and rented individually if so desired.
There are 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms..5 of which are en suite. The sleeping capacity is 16, however, we have the facilities to add a further 2 additional beds if required.
There is a big fully equiped country kitchen with a wood burning stove and doors to both the front and rear terraces.
There is a big comfortable salon with sofas and tv .
The house is set around a courtyard which is part garden and leads to the pool area.
The pool is 13.5m x 4m and the relaxation area backs onto a 4 acre park with big mature trees, flower beds and a petanque court.
There is a meandering path from here that leads down to the river Authion where it is possible to fish.
My wife Regine, who breeds horses, has a number of prados at the property and keeps several horses there.
And while the weekly price quoted is for the whole house it is possible to rent just a part of the house and for just a week end so contact us for details and prices.
There is a big fully equipped country kitchen on the ground floor which also doubles as the main dining room with a huge table that I bought from an Abbey which will seat 16, There is also a smaller fully equipped kitchen available on the first floor.
There is a big salon on the ground floor with sofas and tv and a logburner in the stone fireplace.
There are 7 bedrooms. Two are on the ground floor one of which is huge - this has a double plus one single bed and the other bedroom is a double.
As the building is in 2 parts, this part has 2 further double bedrooms on the first floor.
The other 3 bedrooms are reached via a big stone staircase. The large bedroom has a double plus one single.
The second bedroom has a double and the 3rd bedroom is 6 mtrs long but only 2 mtrs wide so ideally suited for two children (although we find the adults like this cozy space just as much).
There are 5 en suite bathrooms with showers sinks and toilets and 1 independant plus a separate toilet.
We have electric heating throughout the house and in the kitchen there is also a big fireplace with a log burning stove..as there is in the salon. There is a further woodburner in the biggest ground floor bedroom. We provide, free of charge, the wood for the fires.
There are games and books in French and in English (my wife is French and an avid reader). There are also tv's with dvd players in both the major parts of the house also in French and in English. There is also wi-fi connection throughout which we provide free of charge.
Outside the house there are 3 terraces one at either end of the house where it faces onto the courtyard and one at the back.
The swimming pool is 13.5m x 4m and is surrounded by a big lounging area with sunbeds and umbrellas.
This backs onto a park of around 4 acres with mature trees flowerbeds and a petanque court.
Beyond this the property leads down to the river Authion where it is possible to fish.
Together we have around 24 acres of land and my wife, who breeds horses, has a number of prados there.
As the house is centered around a courtyard it is totally private.
We ask that people park at the back of the house where there is a huge grassed area..plus it makes it easier to load and unload the cases of wine purchased locally at a very good price.
The house is ideal for big groups with or without children (the pool area is secure and will not permit small children to enter unassisted). But as it is in two parts it can be separated to accommodate smaller parties. We even propose that it is possible, out of high season, to rent just a part of the main house as one or two couples.
We are not, at the moment, however able to offer full facilities to persons who are handicapped...there are not lots of steps but we feel that given the house layout it would be difficult for a wheelchair to easily enter the bathrooms.
For those who are interested we also offer photography week ends which we can tailor to your level of skill. The prices vary so contact us for details.

|Why this location?||We love the forest and the river and this property gave us the scope to expand our gite ideas and more land for my wife, who is a horse breeder, to have individual prados.|
|Unique benefits of property||We are totally private our house is built around a gated courtyard with a 4 acre park behind our pool area that leads down to a superb river.|
Wine tasting is a must..vineyards are everywhere and we can recommend the best.
A visit to the vineyards is a great experience..from the vine to your glass.
Horse riding at our friendly stables in Brion is always a fun thing.
Cycling is a major pastime here and there are dozens of marked routes..and bike hire is just 10 minutes away..for a novice or an off piste expert.
Fishing is available and we have nearly a kilometer of river frontage at La Mustrie.
Kayaking or paddle boarding is available only 5 minutes away and to suit all levels.
Restaurants abound and of course we have our favourites that we can recommend and even book for you if your French isn't 100%.
The Chateaux of the Loire valley are world famous and certainly worth a visit.
Very lovely gite in the heart of the country.
Scrupulously clean and well maintained and equipped every thing you could want.
Even a petanque court in the park behind the pool area.
Tastefully decorated with a melange of old French style and modern.
Not too far from the local amenities..and an historic city with everything else just 15 minutes away.
Lots of space for the kids to run and play and our hosts ...well they went over the top to make sure we had everything we needed even providing fuel for the barbeques, booking retaurants and taking us to their favourite vineyards...thank you David and Regine ;))
We hope to come back next year and can thoroughly recommend La Mustrie.
Top marks !
