Hi, we are John and Glyn, we have been in France now for 24 years. We previously had a bed and breakfast and a holiday rental cottage just south of our new property which we successfully run for 12 years. Which earned us high ratings on TripAdvisor and Booking.

|Why this location?||We wanted to move to a different area and find a smaller property, our previous one was huge! We were lucky to find the house in Montsoreau as it is a much sought-after village. It needed a lot of work as everything needed attention. We are very pleased with the result, as it is absolutely charming and in a great location. It works very well for holiday makers, everything is on your doorstep. Great eating places and bars plus all commerce for general everyday living. You really don't need a car, it's just perfect!|
|Unique benefits of property||We live 5kms away in Fontevraud l'Abbaye which is another lovely village and tourist destination. So we are on hand should our guests need us. We know the area very well and can offer good advice on great location, house by the river in a stunning village with everything around you to have a great holiday. You can walk everywhere easily. We are also a few minutes’ walk to another 'Beau Village' Candes Saint Martin with its artisan shops, wine bar by the river and restaurant in front of the Collegiale which is a beautiful late Romanesque early gothic church. Places to visit, of which are many.|
UNESCO World heritage site. It is the largest monastic abbey in Europe and the final resting place of Alienor d'Aquitaine, Henri Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart. The art installations are fabulous. Also has a Michelin star restaurant. The village of Fontevraud is pretty with bars and restaurants.
One of our favourites in this area and not to be missed
Beautiful 13th century fortified château with stunning award winning gardens. The gardens are particularly lovely in May and June when the roses are in bloom. A new sound installation brings the château to life and takes you back to medieval times.
Check for the many events organised in the summer season: concerts, Easter egg hunts, jousting and a rose festival.
Beautiful formal gardens. In July and August on some weekends the parc is lite with 2000 candles followed by a pyrotechnic show over the lake.
Famous horse riding school (French military riding academy) Public performances for you to watch the elite and celebrated riding masters at work.
Every 2nd Sunday in the village, the monthly flea market is held on the quayside of the Loire river. Great for finding bargains perhaps and items so very French to take home. Combined with the morning market, it makes for a great atmosphere. Have a glass of wine with the locals and watch the world go by. It's our favourite flea market in the area.
Chinon, on the river Le Vienne, its chateau dominates the town. Winding your way around the narrow streets with boutiques, restaurants and bars. The beautiful 15th century buildings are full of history. You can almost imagine Joan of Arc wandering in front of you on her way to see the Dauphin of France (the future Charles VII) in 1429.
Also has a great flea market every 3rd Sunday of the month. Weekly market on Thursdays.
What a lovely way to discover the Loire river. We took a trip in the summer from Saumur in the direction of Montsoreau. An early evening trip which started with a drink in the hotel Mercure which is steps away from the boat. Sharing the experience with fellow tourists,we were offered a glass of fizz onboard, as we sailed low in the water and discovered the lovely scenery along the shores of the Loire. After an hour we disembarked and wandered back over the bridge to the town. By chance we were in Saumur when they had a lively festival going on. Live music, street food and entertainment. It was perfect. Some boats offer dinner onboard, sunset or sunrise trips.
Minutes away from Le 16 is the beautiful château which dominates the river. It was the setting of the Alexandre Dumas novel Le Dame de Montsoreau. There is also a contemporary art installation in the château.
We have never been, but have had quests that stayed with us when we had our bnb who really enjoyed the visit. A collection of tanks and vehicles from around the world. Retracing the history of armoured vehicles and their technical evolution throughout the world. One for the boys, maybe?
One of our favourite restaurants to eat in the village of Fontevraud. As part of the hotel the restaurant is a popular place to eat. We love its contemporary design and the situation overlooking the village square and the grand entrance doors of the Abbey. Eat inside the stylish interior or on the terrace. The food is always so good and the staff friendly. Combine a visit to the abbey and lunch perhaps. Perfect fine dining experience.
Le Seize has been renovated to a very high standard and tastefully furnished, with a creative blend of traditional and modern. We particularly liked the courtyard leading directly from the kitchen, ideal for an evening drink at the end of a busy day exploring. Located in a very quiet street, with more pedestrians than cars, just a short walk to the river, château, local restaurants and all-important boulangerie for fresh bread and pastries. The property had everything we needed and more. Nothing but praise for and thanks to Glyn and John for their hard work and effort which is immediately evident in the high standard of this property.
What a great review! It was a real pleasure to have you all stay at Le Seize.
Hope one day you are able to come back...
Many sincere thanks.
We had a really relaxing week staying at Le Seize. The townhouse has been beautifully renovated, and has a lovely secluded courtyard that was great for dinner outdoors on the warm evenings. The venue also had a great kitchen for cooking the foods we bought at the local market, and the Netflix and wifi comforts our kids find essential. The town of Montsoreau is really picturesque and has some great restaurants in walking distance. Plus of course the ability to visit so many Chateaux or do activities like canoe on the Loire in the vicinity, we were never bored!
Thank you for the great review.
So pleased you all had a good time in Montsoreau & enjoyed staying in the house.
Would be delighted if you could come back for another visit.
Le seize is a lovely place to stay , excellent facilities with everything provided for your holiday . Location is in a beautiful little village close to the Loire , We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed our stay .
Thank you for your review.
We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
Hopefully we will see you here again one day.
Le Seize is a beautiful cottage, tastefully restored and decorated to a high standard and more than lived up to our expectations. The helpful owners live in a nearby village so are on hand if you need anything The interior is light, airy and spacious with plenty of room for two couples. The internal courtyard is small but the honey coloured stone walls and plants made it a very pleasant place to sit comfortably. We had breakfast there every morning.
We were only a short distance from the river and the village of Montsoreau is delightful to explore.
We had bikes with us and enjoyed a circular ride to Saumur. We would like to have cycled more as there are cycle routes from the door but the weather was too hot! There are many interesting places to visit close by plus several good restaurants, a boulangerie and small supermarket within walking distance.
We have no hesitation in recommending Le Seize for a relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings.
Thank you for your lovely review of Le Seize.
We are so pleased you all enjoyed the house and the beautiful village of Montsoreau.
The weather was a challenge for everyone but hopefully you can come back and enjoy cooler conditions to appreciate the Loire valley.
Hope to see you all again one day. Sorry that I did not get the chance to chat to everyone!
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
