Hi, we are John and Glyn, we have been in France now for 24 years. We previously had a bed and breakfast and a holiday rental cottage just south of our new property which we successfully run for 12 years. Which earned us high ratings on TripAdvisor and Booking.

|Why this location?||We wanted to move to a different area and find a smaller property, our previous one was huge! We were lucky to find the house in Montsoreau as it is a much sought-after village. It needed a lot of work as everything needed attention. We are very pleased with the result, as it is absolutely charming and in a great location. It works very well for holiday makers, everything is on your doorstep. Great eating places and bars plus all commerce for general everyday living. You really don't need a car, it's just perfect!|
|Unique benefits of property||We live 5kms away in Fontevraud l'Abbaye which is another lovely village and tourist destination. So we are on hand should our guests need us. We know the area very well and can offer good advice on great location, house by the river in a stunning village with everything around you to have a great holiday. You can walk everywhere easily. We are also a few minutes’ walk to another 'Beau Village' Candes Saint Martin with its artisan shops, wine bar by the river and restaurant in front of the Collegiale which is a beautiful late Romanesque early gothic church. Places to visit, of which are many.|
UNESCO World heritage site. It is the largest monastic abbey in Europe and the final resting place of Alienor d'Aquitaine, Henri Plantagenet and Richard the Lionheart. The art installations are fabulous. Also has a Michelin star restaurant. The village of Fontevraud is pretty with bars and restaurants.
One of our favourites in this area and not to be missed
Beautiful 13th century fortified château with stunning award winning gardens. The gardens are particularly lovely in May and June when the roses are in bloom. A new sound installation brings the château to life and takes you back to medieval times.
Check for the many events organised in the summer season: concerts, Easter egg hunts, jousting and a rose festival.
Beautiful formal gardens. In July and August on some weekends the parc is lite with 2000 candles followed by a pyrotechnic show over the lake.
Famous horse riding school (French military riding academy) Public performances for you to watch the elite and celebrated riding masters at work.
Every 2nd Sunday in the village, the monthly flea market is held on the quayside of the Loire river. Great for finding bargains perhaps and items so very French to take home. Combined with the morning market, it makes for a great atmosphere. Have a glass of wine with the locals and watch the world go by. It's our favourite flea market in the area.
Chinon, on the river Le Vienne, its chateau dominates the town. Winding your way around the narrow streets with boutiques, restaurants and bars. The beautiful 15th century buildings are full of history. You can almost imagine Joan of Arc wandering in front of you on her way to see the Dauphin of France (the future Charles VII) in 1429.
Also has a great flea market every 3rd Sunday of the month. Weekly market on Thursdays.
What a lovely way to discover the Loire river. We took a trip in the summer from Saumur in the direction of Montsoreau. An early evening trip which started with a drink in the hotel Mercure which is steps away from the boat. Sharing the experience with fellow tourists,we were offered a glass of fizz onboard, as we sailed low in the water and discovered the lovely scenery along the shores of the Loire. After an hour we disembarked and wandered back over the bridge to the town. By chance we were in Saumur when they had a lively festival going on. Live music, street food and entertainment. It was perfect. Some boats offer dinner onboard, sunset or sunrise trips.
Minutes away from Le 16 is the beautiful château which dominates the river. It was the setting of the Alexandre Dumas novel Le Dame de Montsoreau. There is also a contemporary art installation in the château.
We have never been, but have had quests that stayed with us when we had our bnb who really enjoyed the visit. A collection of tanks and vehicles from around the world. Retracing the history of armoured vehicles and their technical evolution throughout the world. One for the boys, maybe?
One of our favourite restaurants to eat in the village of Fontevraud. As part of the hotel the restaurant is a popular place to eat. We love its contemporary design and the situation overlooking the village square and the grand entrance doors of the Abbey. Eat inside the stylish interior or on the terrace. The food is always so good and the staff friendly. Combine a visit to the abbey and lunch perhaps. Perfect fine dining experience.
A charming sensitively and recently modernised and updated ancient house in a beautiful village. Everything was as expected from the description. Typical of historical villages the road outside is quite narrow but it is practical to park for unloading and longer term so long as your car is not too large and you tuck in well or free parking is available in a number of places within easy walking distance. Mobile phone coverage is limited as you would expect in a small village and a property with thick stone walls but the WiFi is fine throughout the property. We did not eat out but can attest to the fine bakery, the PMU bar café on the square and the wine shop on the road down from the town hall. Beyond the attractions of the town itself there are of course plenty of good places to visit within a radius of half an hour's driving distance. The owners were courteous and most helpful and the house clean and well provisioned with basic household items.
