Doue is also famous for being the rose growing centre of France with an amazing rose festival in July and a conservatoire of old fashioned roses. The town also boasts troglodyte houses and cave restaurants. The Loire Valley is the third largest wine making region in France and is famous for its Anjou and Saumur wines. There are local high quality red, white and rose wines plus the increasingly appreciated Crement sparkling wines made in and around Saumur itself. In fact the rouge sparkling wines are my absolute favourite and must be sampled.
The climate in the Loire is gentle and mild, with hot dry summers and warm temperature Spring and Autumn seasons making it perfect for walking, cycling, fishing, bird watching and horse riding.
The rich heritage and natural beauty of the area have contributed to the Loire Valley being declared a UNESCO world heritage site.

We are a British couple in our mid-sixties who retired to France to run a Gite and enjoy a new life living in a semi-rural community. We have been married for 44 years and both enjoy the company of varied ages from small children to older couples so having a Gite suits our lifestyle. Ed loves History and has so much information on our local area he can share with guests. We live on site in our own Farmhouse and the Gite is completely separate.
