A wonderful peaceful and relaxing getaway holiday in a beautifully renovated farm cottage completed by the owners. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped, very comfy and spotlessly clean. There is a large pretty garden to the rear with lots of garden furniture including a gazebo where you can sit and relax to the sound of nothing but bird song whilst admiring the view. The owners live on the site and were ever so helpful and friendly without being obtrusive. We enjoyed meeting all their animals especially Peppa the miniature pot-bellied pig! Despite the rural tranquility there is a lot to see nearby and although we stayed a week we could easily have stayed a further week as we ran out of time in which to visit other medieval villages such as Sainte Suzanne. For those who wish to be active there are lots of trails for walking and cycling nearby - we found that the local tourist information offices provide very helpful leaflets. For history buffs not only are there medieval towns and chateaux to visit but the nearby Roman town of Jublains is a must with an excellent museum and information boards with English translations around the village. We even managed to take a peak from the road at the chateau featured in the Channel 4 TV series "Escape to the Chateau"! We have no hesitation in recommending this property in this lovely corner of Normandy.
The cottage was in a quiet setting in rural French countryside, ideal if you needed a stress free break.
Unfortunately the weather whilst we were there was not the best; plenty of rain and a spectacular thunderstorm one night, The cottage was cold when we arrived and it took a couple of days for it to warm up once we had lit the log-burner, shame that the bedroom heating was not working and that there was no heating in the bathroom. Thank you Paul for the supply of logs.
We are aware that old properties attract cobwebs and are difficult to keep spotlessly clean but there were areas in the cottage that were unacceptably "cobwebbed", especially the kitchen and the upstairs landing.
Enjoyed the antics of the chicken and the local wildlife,
We are surprised about "cobwebs" as the cottage is well presented and undergoes a five hour clean before every guest arrival. The cottage is well insulated, warm and cosy. Temperatures rose to excess of 24 degrees just before your arrival. which must have been extremely annoying for you and we are sorry you did not enjoy your holiday. Bad weather is unusual but it does not have to inhibit a holiday with plenty to do locally including indoor swimming, forest walks, casino, health spa, kayaking
Lovely cottage in rural setting, very well presented. Owners absolutely wonderful and accommodating . Good base from which to explore the region, for foodies Rennes's Saturday market is a must. Would definitely recommend it.
Thank you David, pleasure to have you stay at Dougebert. Summertime offers more to do locally of course as the season gets into full swing, but we are pleased the weather was great for you and you could get out and explore this beautiful area of France. We look forward to welcoming you all back again.
