We have lived in France for over 10 years now and we still love it.
|Year property purchased||2005|
|Why this location?||We chose this location as it is 'real' France and half a day from Calais so if we need to get back to the UK for family visits it is very easy. Having lived here we are so lucky we chose this area (we did look at lots of other areas of France over the years) we are out in the countryside but just half an hour from the cities of Le Mans and Laval with their fabulous culture, shops and restaurants.|
|Unique benefits of property||The cottage, built in 1534, and garden have everything you need for a perfect holiday. The swimming pool and secure garden are for the exclusive use of the guests. The house has been described as contemporary but with an old twist !!|
There is so much to see and do in this region, there is plenty of tourist information available in the cottage but a must would include: A visit to the caves and canyons at Saulges, this is literally 5 minutes away and is an amazing place. The caves of `Margot' and `Rochefort' were inhabited from the Palaeolithic era, tours of the caves are available from April to October. There is also the beautiful shrine to Saint Cenere at Saulge. found in a very relaxing park with sports and swimming available in the summer months. with a creperie on site serving great food and drink. 5 minutes in the opposite direction takes you to St Suzanne, with it's fortress and chateau it is a beautiful day out. There is a magnificent chateau at Mezangers, the grounds are well worth a visit and a very excellent water park just outside the same village. Or you may be interested in the ancient Roman town of Jublains, with its fortress, hot baths, temple and theatre.
There are lots of Brocantes, bric-a-brac markets and collectors fairs in the area, full details are available.
You are ideally situated to explore the 'Mayenne or the Sarthe regions, or travel a little further a field to the Loire valley - the vineyards of the Anjou grape ( just 1 hour from here) or Saumur (approx 1.5 hours from here). Le Mans is just half an hour away, it is famous for the 24 hour racing (June and July) however there are events at the track from April to October, as well as an excellent motor museum.
The old town and Cathedral should not be missed and there is plenty of shopping available in the newer part of the city.
We have two small children and had the most amazing holiday at La Bonne Marie. The gite is very well equipped with UK Sky TV (CBeebies), DVD player with a nice selection of DVD's, plastic crockery, well equipped kitchen, booster seat, bed guard, potty, baby bath etc., etc. The garden is huge with swings (inc. baby swing), rope ladders, slide and hammock. There is also a den under the slide which our kids loved. The hosts have supplied garden toys including kids bats, balls, frisbee, swing ball, cricket, boules and more.
The pool was excellent and cleaned daily. It is solar heated, but warm enough for swimming. There was a box filled with pool toys. Around the pool there was seating and sun loungers.
On arrival our hosts had cold drinks and ice creams waiting for us, along with milk, tea and coffee.There was also a lot of local brochures giving us plenty of choice of what to do.
The gite has low beams (hence the 9) so my husband of 6.3ft had to watch his head, but it didn't cause us any problems.
There are lots of nearby zoo's, a few soft plays, parks, chateaux, plus beautiful French towns. We didn't explore much as the kids were happy in the garden.
I could not recommend this gite more and would happily book again next year.
Our thanks for these fabulous comments, it was a pleasure to have this lovely young family here and we do hope they come back for another visit.
