|Why this location?||We have visited many places across the world and for us this is the most beautiful - quiet, peaceful, as secluded as you to wish to make it, and full of nature and history.|
|Unique benefits of property||Peaceful, quiet, unchanging and as secluded as you wish to make it, yet with many interesting and fun locations close by.|
Bagnole de L'Orne is a charming spa town about an hour’s drive away which offers activities such as a Velo-rail and rope/wire walking in the forest. Fougeres has the largest mediaeval castle in Europe, only an hour away. Jublains is a well-preserved Gallo-Roman town with excellent, modern museum. The River Mayenne is a short distance away by car with an excellent, well maintained, tow-path for walking or cycling.
Fougeres is an hour away by car and is a lovely visit. It is a good example of a medieval town, with the largest medieval castle in Europe and some excellent shops and restaurants.
Rennes is the capital of Brittany, it takes just over an hour to reach and has some superb shops and restaurants. Each Saturday it holds the largest fruit, veg and fish market outside Paris.
The Mayenne is a great area for cycling. You can cycle either on the quiet roads, on the well-maintained towpath on the river Mayenne, or on the disused railway line if you prefer totally flat. You can cycle for miles, whether you're an experienced cyclist, or not.
From La Tuilerie you can visit much of Normandy, including the D-Day beaches, St Malo, Mt St Michel.
The Tour de France passes quite close to La Tuilerie this year (2018) on the 13th July.
You can visit the ancient towns of Angers and Tours, and you can visit the vineyards of the Loire (Red, Rose and White are all available in excellent quality), including a 'degustation' if you wish.
The gite was delightful; clean, spacious and well-stocked with all mod cons and a welcome pack to take care of the essentials on arrival. Excellent heating for the cold nights of early June, the cosy lounge and bedroom made the whole place very romantic.
The peaceful location took away all the stresses of work when you're in the middle of nature and the company of beautiful wildlife.
This was and always will be a memorable holiday for the two of us, as we got engaged in the garden of Lavande Cottage.
Jim and Eileen could not have been more friendly or helpful with their tips and advice as to where to eat and visit. Nothing was too much trouble, and their heartfelt gift was yet another surprise.
Thank you for a wonderful time.

Enjoyed glorious weather during our week long stay. Gite is spectacular; history matched with a clever layout provided perfect space to relax. Setting is magical, so quiet and peaceful; with wild-life in abundance. We loved watching the hummingbird hawk moths, the little owls perched on the roofs and the occasional deer in the fields opposite.
We made use of the bikes for trips to local villages and were amazed how quiet and safe the country roads were. Trips to the bigger towns provided an abundance of history and good restaurants, with an excellent supermarket within 15 mins drive.
The owners are rightly proud of what they have created, and are both a careful mix of leaving you alone yet giving knowledgeable guidance when requested.
Thanks Jim & Eileen for a truly memorable stay.
Thank you for your kind review, and thank you also for leaving the cottage so beautifully clean and tidy. We hope to welcome you here again soon.
