Rennes is the capital of Brittany, it takes just over an hour to reach and has some superb shops and restaurants. Each Saturday it holds the largest fruit, veg and fish market outside Paris.
The Mayenne is a great area for cycling. You can cycle either on the quiet roads, on the well-maintained towpath on the river Mayenne, or on the disused railway line if you prefer totally flat. You can cycle for miles, whether you're an experienced cyclist, or not.
From La Tuilerie you can visit much of Normandy, including the D-Day beaches, St Malo, Mt St Michel.
