|Why this location?||Well located for Paris from Caen (Ferry) and great for an overnighter en route to the beautiful Loire Valley. All a short drive from the Mayenne. We find the Mayenne pretty unspoilt ( a well kept secret) not overrun in the summer, You can kick back and relax here and enjoy all that this region has to offer. Great quiet location to break a trip for one or two nights or spend longer and enjoy the peace of the Mayenne.|
|Unique benefits of property||We're on a walk trail here (runs past our front gate) Many open landscapes for walkers and cyclists to enjoy. Its quiet with local amenities all very close to the gite. Fishing nearby and even a beach (lakeside) for those hot summer days.|
Grand Houx, named after the holly that is prevalent around the house, is situated within a short walking distance from the very quiet, pretty, and rather well kept village of Le Ham. The local lake is well stocked, and if you're inclined towards angling, join the locals. On occasions they even have a shared barbeque at the local lake and they always seem to be catching something. Numerous walks surround the house, in fact we're on a rambling trail here. You'll often come across parties of French ramblers making their way past the cottage en-route to their next stop. If cycling (road or trail) is your thing, this is a popular pastime here or at le Foret de Sille de Guillaume. You'll love Petit Houx, but mind your head! 18th century beams are always unforgiving. A great escape!
Sadly only one bathroom functioning which was a specific we wanted. The stairs needed handrails which would impact on some.
The facilities in the gites were very good otherwise. The owner lives next door and was very helpful. We toured a lot and there was an abundance of printed material.
The village was without much at all, pretty nonetheless. Please get precise guide to finding the gite before you try and arrive.
I wont go again but not due to gite which on the whole was very good.
