About this property

A Fantastic Holiday Home in a Lovely Rural Location. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Set in the beautiful countryside of Pays de la Loire in France, the estate of Le Moulin de la Quentiniere comprises two stunning luxury 5 bedroom houses and a fantastic leisure complex complete with indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, gymnasium and gamesroom.

Outside, the courtyard leads down to a large garden for lazy days playing boules, British bulldog, football and rounders or just lying back and watching the clouds drift by....

The landscape surrounding this wonderful French property offers a vista of rolling pastures, grazing cattle and quiet roads.

Complete with quaint villages and friendly locals; an idyllic setting to while away the hours. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy un grand cafe, un kir de cassis or the local delicacy, un verre du pommeau....

We are located in the little village of Desertines, in the town of Gorron, the Mayenne department of the Pays de la Loire. For those who like to explore, it is an ideal base from which to travel to other places of interest.

Famous for its culinary superiority, France is one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, receiving over 80 million foreign visitors each year. Visitors are attracted by the historic cities, the beautiful countryside along with the abundance of castles situated in the Loire Valley, and Brittany and Normandy. In addition, France offers an agreeable climate, some excellent beaches and a rich culture with food and wines that are among the most celebrated in the world.

Le Moulin started out as a flour mill, briefly occupied during the Second World War, providing milled flour to local residents and the surrounding areas. It was typical of a working mill, producing high quality stone ground flour. The bags were levered down by a pulley system - which is now the balcony of ’Le Soleil’, our lovely sunny suite on the third floor, with the large waterwheel still evident at the back of the property.

Originally part of the estate owned by the Montecot family, it was bought by the Kipping family in December 2006 as ’one large 5 bedroomed house with masses of outbuildings with great potential’. The large 5 bedroomed house referred to is now known as ’La Petite Maison’; ’Le Moulin’ was dingy looking, mostly derelict, with 4 levels of woodworm infested, rotting floors! Work on the refurbishment commenced in earnest 18 months later.

Now, we are happy to say, we have created around 9,500 sq ft of modern, stylish accommodation with each 400 sq ft bedroom suite boasting fantastic furnishings and a luxurious bathroom with walk in shower. In total, we are now able to accommodate up to 24 people. The main living space - the salon - is around 1,500 sq ft and has been kitted out with a projector, stereo sound system and cinema screen.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Dorn Kipping

Hello, I'm a working mother and myself and my hubby bought this property when we saw it and fell in love with it :)
Over the years, we have lovingly restored it and made it into a holiday home we hope people would like to stay in and come back to again and again.

It's a gorgeous property and modern inside whilst retaining that French 'je ne sais quoi' that we all would like to know and love ;)

Year property purchased 2007
Why this location? We have visited a lot of areas in France and feel that Desertines, France is a lovely, rural location with a lot of friendly people, a place to relax and enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle. It is an ideal location for the best of both worlds; when you want to go and explore busy bustling towns or quiet countryside, then come back and chillax.
Unique benefits of property It offers the best of both worlds - a lovely rural location in quiet countryside and not far from lively pubs and restaurants and market villages and towns.

The Owner Recommends

A holiday away from it all and a great place to have a family gathering :)

Please bear in mind that this is not an exhaustive list and we provide all our guests with a Welcome Pack with ideas of places to visit, restaurants to check out and much more...

The Red Lion, public house, Desertines - a great little local pub that also has a lot of feature days/evenings (and it's only a 15 minute walk from the house).

Natalie's, Desertines - again, 15 minutes walk for some great local food; plat du jour for around 15 euros.

Cafe Gourmand, Gorron.

Loisirs de la Colmont, Gorron - high wires, kayaking, bike hire, swin-golf, paintballing, loads to do here and not just for the kids!

The town of Fougères - one of the main reasons to visit is to see its magnificent castle, one of the finest fortresses in Europe.
