About this property

Two Magnificant Farmhouses & Covered Swimming Pool . This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Les Blotinières – translated as the Huddle and is made up three properties on the site. La Rosetta is the biggest house with four bedrooms; it is named after my youngest daughter and the old French rose growing by the kitchen window, Isabelle after my eldest daughter and Bella because it is a shorten version. Les Blotinières was part of the Estate of Chateau Mortiers and where the Friars produced the food for the Chateau and part of it dates back to the 15C. This area was ruled by the English. Les Blotinières was sold to a French Farmer and as with most small farms it fell into hard times. We may have discovered the tunnel which leads up to the Chateau but that needs some excavation. We hope to get the original bread oven operational next year (it is the garage).

On entering La Rosetta, on the left of the large entrance hall is a substantial modern kitchen with a massive oak kitchen island and French windows leading onto the terrasse, the kitchen is fully equipped with all the modern appliances, a large range cooker, American fridge freezer and two dishwashers. The kitchen is fully stocked with herbs and spices for your use. On the right of the entrance hall is a large and comfortably furnished lounge with a huge wood burner and French windows opening onto the terrasse. This is where the broadband router is and satellite tv. Next is a downstairs shower room. Upstairs is a light landing leading to four double bedrooms with a combination of double or two single beds all with memory foam mattresses. The fourth master bedroom also has a cot. There is a spacious comfortable bathroom with a bath and shower. The house has been furnished not as a gite but as a home with an eclectic mix of modern and antique furniture with original works of art. There are many board games, cards, books and recipe books for your perusal.

Isabelle and Bella look over the valley and pool terrace. They have finished to a more modern design both being open planned. Isabelle has a large downstairs and walk in shower. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a bathroom with bath. Bella is open planned with kitchen diner and lounge, upstairs there is a large bedroom and en suite bathroom.

The terrace in front of Rosetta is hedged with lavender. We have used bamboo and grasses to screen around the pool area and there is plenty of car parking.

There is a large bricked double outdoor barbecue and the bread oven is being renovated.

The garden has cherry, peach, apple, fig and walnuts trees and a there is a fresh herb bed.

The lower lawn is being renovated and planted out and there is a top lawn through the little stone gateway for football.

Parking and garages

There is plenty of secured parking.

Visitor suitability

The property can be accessible by some with impaired mobility.

Information about any additional facilities

Overlooked by Isabelle and Bella is a lower south facing pool terrace. The pool is a 11m by 5m salt water pool protected by a telescopic pool cover that can be rolled clear of the pool or left fully or partially over the pool so as to provide shelter from the sun or the weather if it is a little inclement. The pool is crystal clear and lovely to swim in. The pool is and the temperature is about 25 degrees depending on the ambient temperature and it will rise to 29/30 degrees in the height of summer. There is an outdoor shower as well as plenty of sun parasols and recliners.

As required by French Law, the pool is securely fenced but because of its situation those guests or family members that don't swim can watch from the Upper Terrace and still enjoy the fun. The pool is lit so the adults can enjoy a romantic swim when the children are in bed. There is a swim jet but it can be a bit cantankerous so I can not guarantee it will be working

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Michelle Procter-Smith

My husband is a farm manager and I do all sorts.

Year property purchased 1999
Why this location? We wanted somewhere were our children could be free from roads and traffic and even take their ponies on holiday with them. We fell deeper in love with the area as we got to know it better - the food, the vegetables, the fruit, the nuts, the mushroom, the figs, the wine, the chateaux and finally the lovely weather which is not too hot but hot enough. There is an array of fabulous restaurants nearby including a Michelin Star restaurant in La Fleche. Nearby is a superb golf course (one of the top six in France), horse racing or equestrian eventing/dressage at Saumur.
Unique benefits of property There are three houses - one four-bedroom, one three-bedroom and one one-bedroom house in a L-shaped complex, all having adjoining large terraces with lovely views across the valley.
Les Blotinières was designed to accommodate large friends/family gatherings of up to 22, from the old to the young. The houses are available in any combination depending on the number of beds required. The houses are all fully catered but the large open plan kitchen in La Rosetta will cater easily for 20. The south facing terrace easily accommodates that number for al-fresco dining. There is a large double barbeque for those wanting to bbq and a large bread oven is being restored for those wanting to turn their hand to making pizza or slow roast a la Jamie Oliver.

The Owner Recommends

My favourite things to do

Pop down to the local artisan bakery for fresh croissants whilst everyone is in bed, and if I have time, I will cycle there as it is only 20 minutes on a bike through some glorious countryside (there are five bikes at the houses for your use). When I am back and the coffee is brewing, I will wander in the garden to pick some fresh fruit. On Sunday, you must visit the Market in La Fleche - the cheeses, the bread, the herbs, the food is magnificent. I would pop in to Le Moulin des Quatre Saisons and book a table for lunch during the week (cheapest way meal to eat in France and a Michelin star to boot). After catching our breath on a Sunday, I would plan my wine tasting trips. I have a list of 'Must Visit vine yards' in the houses but always get the Restaurateur to recommend a local wine and then visit the Cellar, it is much more fun than drinking cold wine in a 'Degustation'. Once I know where I am going, we plan the trip, usually we taste the wine before lunch, as a little aperitif, you might say. Lunch could be a lovely picnic with some of that fab cheese you bought on Sunday, stopping at one of the many nature parks surrounding us or we may visit a Chateau and lunch in style (everything is so much better value than in England albeit not such good value as before the Brexit vote). In the afternoon, into the pool to cool down. If you have young children, you may not be able to drag them from the pool, so forget the wine tour mention beforehand. The pool is a salt water pool and the temperature hoovers in the 30 degrees level. You can swim under the cover or open it wide open. My children swam with it half open and as they could swim longer as they did not get so hot. I never thought of that when we bought it - I liked the idea of swimming whatever the weather because we can't there during the summer because of harvest. Finally, we like to go to the Golf Course: the novices stick to the driving range and putting green, the rest play before lunch.

Family Get Away

Once you book, we send you some recommendations depending on your group. Here is what one of guests said and did. The house is a pleasant cycle ride from town which had the shops we needed and a wonderful little bakery. We were a short drive from wine tasting heaven and the bigger towns with plenty of restaurants and shopping.
We went with young children and there were plenty of parks and a small waterpark close by. They loved the swimming pool which we could use even on a cooler day, by keeping the cover over, it was perfect.
The local golf course kept some of the chaps entertained while we relaxed and went for country walks.
There was everything we needed in a quiet spot and beautiful surroundings, and enough beds and space to sleep the extended family and friends, which is usually a big ask! The owners were wonderful and extremely helpful throughout and the houses were immaculate.

8.8 / 10 Ed and eleven others! 14 August, 2018

We absolutely loved our stay. It was our third year renting for three families in the area and this has been our favourite property. To prove how much we liked it, the only critique I can really remember was that we wished the pool was closer to the kitchen living areas so we could interact the children without having to drop everything. The kitchen is excellent, the property it in great condition and the facilities are really strong.

A really good property and a big thank you to Michelle for providing it...

A wonderful hideaway! Possibly a little too isolated on occasions. Superb pool, children loved it and would have dissolved if we had not got them out for food now and again ! A week is not long enough of course, but organising breaks for three generations is tricky! It is a very big property and there are enough nooks crannies and rooms to find your own space which is important. The bedrooms are quite warm if the weather is in the thirties!! Disse itself was certainly there! but frozen in time. Did not see a soul, perhaps it is populated by a nocturnal cult!! Perhaps we failed to probe its heart. Actually a lot of little villages in France are completely deserted when you pass through them, especially at lunch time!!We all had a jolly good time!!! Thank you !!

Owner response

That has made me smile: thanks.

Les Blotinieres surpassed our expectations. The houses were absolutely beautiful, well equipped and had plenty of space for our large group. The houses were clean and there were 4 bottles of wine left in the fridge for us which was lovely. The setting was stunning and the shops were not too far away. I would highly recommend Les Blotineres and hope to book again myself in the future. Thank you to the owners for making our stay so enjoyable.

Owner response

It was our pleasure. Mx

We stayed in Les Blotinieres as a group of 3 families with a total of 13 people and had a wonderful time. The houses and place is beautiful. The place was extremely clean and well maintained. Much consideration has gone in to ensuring the place is well equipped with all practical things you might need. We chose this property as it is located near to family. I would highly recommend it as it was really lovely
