What is a gite? For people new to the concept, a French "gîte" is not a hotel but truly your holiday home without all the fuss of having to buying one. As such, you are expected to look after it while living in it, as you would with your own house. We the owners’ live on the property and look after the premises regarding everything to do with maintenance. On the Saturday changeover, the previous holidaymakers have a duty to leave the gîte clean, but we check to make sure everything is fine before you arrive and we make the beds for you... The original concept, which still exists with some gîtes, was to bring your own bed linen!
Each one of our gîtes is registered with our Mairie, the town hall in St Julien-des-Landes, and has a 3 star rating from the Préfecture de Vendée /Atout France.
Gîte Camélia is one of 3 charming newly-built gîtes with exposed beams, located in the quiet rural hamlet of La Richard. All the gites have their own double french windows as the main entrance. We have a very pleasant, spacious undulating gardens with numerous trees, 5500 m2, and next to the gîtes is a large, secured swimming pool (10m x 5m ) with a Jacuzzi step.
The swimming pool is shared by all the gites and never overcrowded as it is meant for our holidaymakers, and open from beginning of June to end of September. Gîte Camélia is the nearest to the pool and enjoys the most privacy.

The Jaunay lake is 9km and you will find plenty to do, fishing, pedalos, picnics, and walks.
Only 5 minutes away by car, in St Julien-des-Landes, you will find Le Grand Defi which we highly recommended. Beautiful place with lakes, Accrobranches, tree trail, pony rides and paintballing. All the family will enjoy it, from little children to sportive teenagers and quiet grandparents.
Les Sables d'Olonne where you will find the beach, watersports, shops, restaurants, 2 casinos, zoo, Vendee Globe in November 2012 all approx 20 min.
The nearest beaches are 15km away: Brem-sur-Mer, Bretignolles-sur-Mer, famous for watersports, with children friendly sea water lake with its beach and creperies.
La Mothe-Achard 3km
Recommended for a great family day out the famous theme park Puy du Fou is a short one-hour drive away.
Shops are 3km away and you will find supermarket, cafés, and bars.
The world-famous Vendée Globe boat race is back next November after 4 years, in Les Sables d'Olonne! + All along the Vendean coast is beautiful :), my favourite being la Plage du Veillon; Noirmoutier Island; Ile d'Olonne salt marshes for long walks or jogging / cycling. West of the Vendée : le Mont Alouettes and its windmills. La Venise Verte in Southern Vendée. La Roche sur Yon for museums, shopping (great in St Gilles Croix de Vie too) and concerts (the Vendespace arena, the Face et Si Music Festival, beg. of September http://www.festival-faceetsi.fr/, etc.). Around Avrillé, standing stones are a beautiful feature here and there. Just 20 min away is Nantes where you will find Les "Machines de l'Ile" where the World famous Royal de Luxe street shows are prepared. The Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne is approx 1hr 15.
St Gilles Croix de Vie has beach, shops, restaurants, and casino approx. 20 min. New is the bowling and lasergame complex at '201 Foret Avenue' in St Hilaire de Riez, just outside of St Gilles Croix de Vie only 35-40 min by car.

Amusement Park in Bretignolles sur Mer approx 20 min in the summer, "Atlantic Toboggan" is in St Hilaire de Riez, 40 min in the summer and "Oceanile", 1 hr in the summer - All are well worth it and good fun!
This was our third visit to Gite du Parc & again we had a fantastic holiday.
The Gites provide an ideal base to explore the beautiful Vendee, which still after 3 visits we have only touched on part of what it can offer. There are many towns to explore such as the pretty Apremont inland or the large resort of sable O'llonne or smaller but lovely St Hilaire-de-Reiz on the coast to name but a few.
If you want activities the Lac Jaunay is just 10 min away which we would recommend the circular walk around the lake or hire canoes or pedaloes which are great fun. Or if you just want lunch the fantastic restaurant at le Pre on the banks of the lake offers the best Moule frites we have had in France.
If you want to be even more daring the Grand Defi with its multiple Zip wires across the lake & high wire obstacles courses can't be missed.
The beaches are fantastic & stretch from Bretignolles-sur- mer to O'llonne-sur- mer. We like the Grange plage which offers miles of beach, rock pools , sand dunes, cafe and toilets . As it never gets over crowded & only 15 minutes from the Gite.
The Gites are clean, comfortable & very well equipped , the new addition of a much larger fridge was a god send this year. Everything you need is provided make your stay comfortable. The pool is clean and maintained to a high standard. There are many inflatables to keep the children happy but also is a lovely place to relax due to its sheltered position.
Christine & Graham are perfect hosts.
This is the fourth time we have stayed with Graham and Christine and we have become firm friends. They will do their very best to make your stay perfect. Their local knowledge means they can advise you on absolutely anything in the area, from restaurants to flea markets.
This year we enjoyed after dark swimming lit by the fantastic underwater pool lights, night walks in La Richard where we were dive-bombed by bats, collecting glow worms in a jar and sitting outside the Gite being visited by hedgehogs.
The Gite itself has everything you need and is immaculately presented.
We have already planned our return trip, need we say anymore!
Great setting for a relaxing holiday, with easy access to beaches and a wide variety of leisure activities.
Christine and Graham are excellent hosts and are always on hand to help. The Gites are well equipped and comfortable.
This is our third visit to the Gites Du Parc, Graham and Christine are excellent hosts and their knowledge of the area is invaluable. The Grand Defi and Puy de Fou are fantastic. Our daughter considers this to be her second home. We would recommend the Gite du Parc to anyone, but very quietly. Cant wait for next years trip!
