Fontenay is a designated 'Ville Fleurie' and one of the 'plus beaux detours de France'. Our house is located in the heart of this Renaissance gem. It is within easy walking distance of the market, shops, bars, and restaurants. It is well equipped as a home from home and is comfortably and sympathetically furnished.
La Rochelle, beaches, wetlands and Mervant Forest are within easy reach. it is ideal for a 2 centre holiday or to visit the famous Puy du Fou theme park only 30 miles away.
A traditional, stone-built 3-storey town house, it has 3 bedrooms and comfortably sleeps 6 people. The secluded, south facing walled garden has a patio area, a gravelled terrace for boules or sunbathing and a charming covered 'summer kitchen' for shaded lunches or candlelit evenings.
A stroll around the town is a very pleasant experience, and you can walk the ‘mille ans d’histoire’ route, and see for yourself a thousand years of history.
The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, electric cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave.
The dining area has a traditional solid wood table that seats 6 to 8 people.
The living room has 2 comfortable sofas and a low coffee-table.
On the first floor there is a large double bedroom with king sized bed.
On the second floor are 2 bedrooms, both with twin beds but the large bedroom is often configured as a Super King Size (with appropriate duvet and bedlinen).
A spacious bathroom on the 1st floor has a small bath with a shower over, and a separate wc. There is a further wc on the 2nd floor.
There is full gas central heating for the cooler months.
In summer, the traditional stone construction helps the house stay cool indoors.

Because the house is a second home it is equipped with everything associated with normal life, from an iron for your clothes to an iron for your golf.
There is also a small amount of equipment for babies and toddlers, including a travel cot, a stairgate and a lightweight buggy.
Many of the local restaurants and hotels have free wi-fi facilities.
Within an hour from the house are the spectacular sandy beaches of the Atlantic coast and the delightful islands of Ile de Ré, Noirmoutier and Oléron.
One of France's finest historic ports only 45 minutes away with delightful walks and splendid seafood restaurants.
Lac de Chassenon, less than 5 miles away, has a lovely beach and a variety of activities including a large water chute, pedaloes and boat hire, and a childrens' play area.
Fontenay le Comte is on the edge of the Marais Poitevin, a watery world of wetlands, man-made canals, meadows, dykes and fens, that’s the second largest wetland in France after the Camargue. The area can be explored by boat, with or without a guide, or try one of the many cycle paths that criss-cross the region.
The Mervent-Vouvant forest, lake and dam are just a short drive away. The forest is a perfect setting for hiking, riding, cycling and many water activities as well as providing many beautiful picnic spots.
Theme park based on French history which was rated the best park in the world in 2012. Spectacular set pieces by day and amazing son et lumiere evening shows make this an absolute must-see less than an hour from Fontenay.
