Puy du Fou is a historical theme park in Les Epesses in the heart of the Vendée region of Western France. It provides a wonderful day out for all the family and is an experience not to be missed on your holiday. Les Sables d’Olonne is an easy drive away and this seaside town is an interesting mix of old and new with a huge harbour. It is the centre of the Vendee Globe yacht racing events. My wife and I have just returned from a 1 week stay at this fabulous lodge, On arrival the lodge was in a very clean and tidy state. The lodge was very well equiped and felt like home from home, Although the living area was very comfortable we spent the evenings sitting on the decked area overlooking the lake, which was a fantastic view and very enjoyable with a bottle of wine. The decked area was very peaceful and a real suntrap from mid to late afternoon, with a great view of the suset in the evenings.
Local supermarkets are just a short drive away, and there are many attractions to visit, I would recommend a trip to the les sables zoo and a drive to La Roche ser Yon and walk around the square in the centre and see the mechanical zoo. I spent a few days carp fishing on lake Jaunay and managed to land 3 fish.
The campsite was basic but had everything you needed, the outdoor and indoor swimming pools were great, the camp bar was quiet but we were there at the end of the season, the take away pizza were verry nice. At the site bar you can order your french sticks and pastries for the next day which is ideal if you dont want to drive out every day.
Overall this is a great place to unwind and really do nothing if thats what you want or there is plenty to do if you are prepared to drive off the site. I would reccomend this property and I would return to lodge 119.
Caravan as described-very well equipped and generally cleaned to very high standard. Setting was everything we expected in a quiet corner of the site with view of the lake. By a stroke of luck no-one pitched their tent or caravan next to us until the last day of our holiday, so that gave us real seclusion.
It`s a very family-oriented site with only a few isolated British people and very few other "foreigners", i.e non-French people. The site owners are friendly and helpful but speak limited English. On the other hand their younger bar staff and assistants speak quite a lot of English. We found it to be an environment we liked but it does depend how much you want to practise your French and on how much you want to be immersed in an unpretentious French family environment.
But the surroundings are great: lovely walks around the lake/reservoir with a lovely inn/auberge restaurant on the far shore. And sophistication is available not so far away at Sables d`Olonne and La Rochelle.
What a fantastic spot for a holiday. The mobilhome was well equipped. THe best we’ve seen in terms of kitchenware, decor and comfort. The huge decking was lovely for eating on, watching the sunset from and for the kids to play on.
The site was beautiful. Nestled amongst trees above the lake where fishing was easily accessible as was a lovely walk! A 5-10min walk took you to two beautiful swimmming pools, the heated one was perfect for the kids and the outside one glorious on a hot day! We ordered breakfast daily from the bar and loved our morning walk to collect warm croissants and baguettes.
We visited beautiful beaches, all a short drive away, sables dolonne, st hilaire and st Gilles all fab for a trip.
Couldn’t recommend this spot more, peaceful, yet plenty to do and a lovely home to return to!
We stayed at the home in July 2017 for a week and cannot fault the place.
Sometimes you see photos and you think it can't look that good, well this place is. The home was clean, airy and has been very well maintained.
It has decent sized bedrooms and bathrooms and a proper sized bed!
The site has two swimming pools and a bar, but sadly you have to drive to get groceries. You can order bread at the bar though and get it the next day.
The owners were great and I would certainly recommend this home to others, it was just a shame we didn't have a hot week like previous ones!
