La Tannerie is a beautifully old stone farmhouse fully renovated in 2011/2012 to a modern high standard holiday let, heated/private pool, wi-fi
We are located Vix, South Vendee specifically in the Marais Poitevin region of France. The property is situated in the centre of a small village. The village has an award winning bakers, butchers, bar/tabac, pizzeria restaurant and take-away, convenience shop, as well as a chemist, Post Office all of which are just a 2/3 minute walk from the property. There is also a children's public play area in the village and tennis court. Our village also offers 2 local award winning wine producers with wine tasting available.
Excellent access by air from La Rochelle, Nantes and Poitiers airports or by car from the channel ports.
The downstairs comprises of a large open plan kitchen/dining room with patio doors to the garden and swimming pool. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped with American style fridge/freezer, 2 electric ovens, 5 ring gas burner and dishwasher. Separate utility area with washing machine. The family lounge has 2, 3 seater settees and a reclining chair, wide-screen smart tv with English freeview and dvd player. There is a selection of dvd’s and family board games for your use. Free wi-fi is available throughout the house and terrace area. There is a second lounge which overlooks the patio and garden, with a double settee and 2 chairs. There are also a selection of books for you enjoy during your stay.
Upstairs are 3 bedrooms comprising of 1 x king size and 2 x twin bedrooms, all with en suite shower rooms, televisions are in each bedroom with English/French channels.
There is a large outside patio area, with grass area, which is walled and gated for sunbathing and playing games along with an undercover dining/seating area. Private heated swimming pool (7m x 4m), free wi-fi throughout the property and terrace.
Secure car park for 2 cars.
Please bring your own pool/beach towels.
We also have bikes available to explore the local area (suitable for 12+ yrs)
We operate a non smoking policy within the house. No pets are allowed.
10 minute drive from the Renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte where you will find a variety of restaurants, weekly market, shops and large supermarkets. La Rochelle is just a 35 minute drive as are the famous Vendee sandy beaches. For children there are theme parks locally and the re-knowned Puy de Fou park within an hours drive. A superb nature zoo just 10 minutes away or one of the best aquarium's in La Rochelle. We are within an easy drive to the Marais Poitevin, Mervent-Vouvant forest or if you feel like staying local, borrow our bikes and enjoy a cycle along the river banks and see the beautiful canal views and wildlife.

Simply stunning property, great hosts, brilliant - We couldn't have asked for more, property is extremely clean and fully equipped with plenty of space for us all. Bedrooms being all en suite was a huge bonus along with free wi-fi throughout the property and garden. We had a bbq which was prepared by David and Emma and was excellent, it also gave us a chance to ask about the area and what there was for us to see and do, as it was we spent just about the whole week enjoying the private garden and heated swimming pool. Although the property is in the centre of the village it is peaceful, there is an excellent bakers and butchers at the end of the road which we visited almost every day. Beautiful property and we would definitely recommend it and return.

This was our third stay with Emma and David and it keeps on getting better. We had a fantastic holiday in their beautiful modern and immaculate house. Nothing is too much trouble and they are the perfect hosts - there if you need them but not in the way. They always make us feel very welcome and the kids love them both! We even enjoyed fresh veg from the garden. The area has plenty to do if you want to get out, without being too busy. Worth a visit - Puy du Fou, Futuroscope and Parc Pierre du Brune. We spent a good week of our fortnight just relaxing by the pool however - bliss. Thank you Emma and David for another great stay - I am sure we will be back!

Beautiful Farmhouse in a great village; we had a great week in this lovely Farmhouse. A well equipped kitchen, very clean throughout, comfy beds and all the tv channels. Great when the olympics is on! The children loved the pool and my husband the barbecue! Would definitely come again and recommend to friends.

There are really not enough good words to describe how lovely this place is..it was our second time here and it was even more relaxing and enjoyable than before... The owners Emma and David are most welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. La Tannerie is spotlessly clean with all mod cons and it is perfect for relaxing and spending lazy days by the pool with trips to the wonderful bakers and butchers in the village, thrown in. However there are some beautiful villages nearby worth exploring as well as some lovely family friendly beaches to enjoy..but really you will not want to leave the beautiful place that is la Tannerie and it has become a firm holiday favourite for many years to come.

Emma & David were the perfect hosts from the welcome BBQ on our first day to the farewell we received on our last. The farmhouse and grounds are beautiful and the fresh vegetables from David's garden were amazing. The pool was fab and the children (and adults) loved playing in it. Being able to wander up the road for fresh croissants & bread every morning was also a bonus. There are loads of places to explore in the local area and La Rochelle is only a short distance away. I would highly recommend privately renting this farmhouse, with the confidence that Emma and David are trustworthy and helpful with every step of your holiday. Thank you once again, we had a fantastic holiday.

Had a lovely week's stay at La Tannarie. Emma and David were great hosts - very welcoming and available if needs be, but otherwise left you to enjoy your holiday. They have created a lovely house and home - the rooms are spacious, modern and well furnished etc and the garden beautifully kept with the huge advantage of your own heated pool. The village itself provided what you would hope for - a fabulous butcher and baker and some great pizza too! Wish we could have stayed longer! I would thoroughly recommend anyone stay at La Tannerie - from couples like ourselves to families.

We opted for the arrival bbq and what a great decision. Emma and David are so welcoming and the food was excellent – we felt at home straight away. The property and grounds are in fabulous condition and perfect for our party of 6. Our two small children were both welcomed and catered for – our 4 year old even enjoyed some gardening duties and received an award! A stainless steel charcoal barbecue is also provided for you use.
We offer secured parking for 2 cars with locked gates.

|Why this location?||Located in the centre of a small village it is peaceful whilst still being able to walk to the bakers and butchers. We are in a very beautiful and unspoilt part of France with quaint villages, canals but also just 40 minutes from La Rochelle and the Ile de Re. The property is accessible from the south of England in a day and we have the airports of La Rochelle, Poitiers and Nantes available if families wish to fly.|

Within 40 minutes of our property to the north you will find the Vendee beaches of La Tranche Sur Mer and L'Aiguillon Sur Mer and 40 minutes to the south La Rochelle, Il de Re and Chatelaillon Plage all with lovely white sandy beaches.
15 minutes away is Fontenay-le-Comte our nearest town with the old town surrounding the catherdral, the Chateau de Terre Neuve, many shops, restaurants and a market every Saturday morning.
40 minutes away and located over the toll bridge from La Rochelle is the stunning island of the Ile de Re, known for its “fleur de sel” (the finest salt), sandy beaches and with over 100 kilometres of cycle routes (you can hire bikes on the Island) it is a paradise for cyclists. On the island you will find many villages and small towns to visit, one of the most famous being St Martin-de-Re which is a lively bustling town set around a harbour filled with brightly coloured boats. There are many chic boutiques to visit, along with a market which is open every morning, or enjoy a drink or a meal at the numerous cafés and restaurants on the harbour front.
40 minutes is La Rochelle the third most visited town in France is a beautiful historic harbour town with numerous restaurants located around the port, a colourful daily food market and cosmopolitan shops. Here you can take the opportunity of finding that special bottle of wine or trying some of the 600 cheeses produced in France. You will also find one of the largest Aquariums in Europe with an amazing shark tank and marine life from all over the world. Anyone feeling a little adventurous can also take the local bus service from Vix to La Rochelle passing through some of the villages and small towns en route.
Our area of the Marais Poitevin is also known as the Venise Verte (Green Venice) and is world renowned by artists who come here for the light, the variety in the innumerable shades of green and to capture the magic of this enchanting area. The landscape is criss-crossed by a system of canals lined by willows and poplar trees. The canals are surrounded by green vegetation which is where the name of Venise Vert originates. The river Sevre runs through our area and along the banks are many pretty villages including Coulon (often referred to as the capital of the Venise Vert), Damvix and Arcais. At each of the villages you can hire a flat bottom boat to explore the canals or just take a gentle stroll along the many quiet footpaths. We are just minutes away from some great fishing spots which are a paradise for fishermen and a local nature reserve which can be enjoyed by wildlife lovers.
30 minutes away you will discover Mervent forest where you can walk or cycle within this beautiful area of forest and lakes. The forest has over 200 kilometres of well marked footpaths and offers some of the best walks to be found anywhere in the Vendée. Close by is Vouvant “one of the most beautiful villages in France” which is a haven for artists.
Further afield but within 90 minutes are the theme parks of Puy de Fou and Futuroscope which are big tourist attractions for both the young and young at heart.
The Vendee beaches are located just 45 minutes from us, making it perfect for a day out with lovely sandy beaches.
When can we see you again?
We have had the best holiday at La Tannerie, everything was so much more than we expected from the website description and photographs, which whilst beautiful was more amazing than we thought. Stunning actually. Well done Emma and David. The property was spotlessly clean throughout, very well equipped, the pool was lovely, the gardens very homely and all of these things equated to a holiday property that felt like a welcome home. Emma and David were brilliant hosts, very helpful with answering questions and making suggestions for parking etc, and as a bonus we feel like we've gained two new friends to boot. We left (reluctantly) refreshed and chilled having enjoyed the whole week. We have booked to return next year so what more can we say to recommend a stay there? To be honest we think we should keep it a secret in case Emma and David get too popular and we can't get in! 😁

We thoroughly enjoyed a very hot week in this lovely gite. The pool and outdoor area are great. The village location suited us very well and the boucherie is super. We really enjoyed the evening market at Marans and a trip to La Rochelle. There is everything you could possibly need for a good holiday at this property and it is evident that it is extremely well cared for by it's welcoming owners.

We had a wonderful and memorable week at La Tannerie. Dave and Emma could not have made us feel any more welcome. The house itself is fantastic. There is a large and well equipped kitchen dinner, each of the bedrooms are spacious and on-suite. The property in general is outstanding, being well equiped, clean and tastefully decorated. There are TV's in the living room and each bedroom with UK channel's available.
The grounds of the house is a key feature of this property. Dave and Emma have clearly spent a lot of time maintaining the garden to a high standard. The pool is a real asset of the property. It is clean and well maintained. We spent many hours playing in the pool and relaxing in the garden. We also used the fantastic BBQ on several occasions. Other features of the property include secure off street parking and a high quality outdoor table and chairs set complete with shade.
The property is located in pleasant village called Vix. We bought BBQ meat from the local butchers and fresh croissants and baguettes from the patisserie, all just a few minutes walk from the property. Village also has a Pizzeria and small convenience store. The wider area has beautiful rivers, lakes and forests all within easy driving or cycling distance. Many of the canal and river side villages have boat hire available. La Rochelle and local beaches are 30 minutes drive.
I won't hesitate to recommend both the property and location to holiday makers of all ages.
