Built at the turn of the last century, our house is a classic built French house with a tall slate roof, high ceilings and double aspect windows which flood the house with light. Our lovely village house is newly renovated and boasts many of the original features and makes the ideal family getaway with the benefit of a very private courtyard garden and heated pool.
Within 100 metres of the house there is a boulangerie, a small grocery store, a friendly bar with terrace and a restaurant. For the young, and young at heart, there is a nightclub complex within walking distance catering for all ages.
Reaumur is a very pretty village set in the rolling hills of the Vendee 'bocage' with no less than two chateaux, a 12th century church and a manor house now converted to a small, but interesting Science Museum.
The world famous 'Puy du Fou' traditional theme park which has been voted the best theme park in the world is only 30 minutes away and a fantastic day out for all the family. There are dozens of other tourist facilities in the area as well as miles of sandy Atlantic beaches all within an hour. You are far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the coast to experience the laid back charm of the real France.

We are Jane and Brian and our two boys, Joey and Billy. We moved to France in 2003 and run two gites, this house in Reaumur and another at our home in Bazoges en Pareds. We love this part of France because there is so much to see and do here and also because of its easy accessability.
|Year property purchased||2014|
|Why this location?||We have lived in Bazoges en Pareds (16km) since 2003. We love the area and know it well. Reaumur is one of the prettiest villages in the region and when this beautiful period house came up for sale we fell in love with it on first sight. We have renovated it with care and tried to keep the elegant feel of the original house while making it a modern comfortable holiday home|
|Unique benefits of property||Our house at Reaumur is a turn of the century village house with all the elegance of that era. It is light and bright and unmistakably French and we have done our best to keep the all the period features while making a modern, comfortable and cosy holiday home with a private garden and pool for a great self contained family holiday.|
There is a lovely and very empty three and four par golf course at Les Herbiers, 15 minutes’ drive and a beautiful and more challenging one at Nesmy, about 40 minutes' drive.
The theme park at Puy du Fou is a fantastic day out and the evening time Cinescenie is a spectacular sound and light show with hundreds of actors that really has to be seen to be believed. It has been voted 'The best theme park in the world' by the Americans so have a look at the website to see what it is all about. Be warned though, the Cinescenie is massively popular in France and booked months in advance in high season therefore book online as soon as you can. You can buy 2 day, 3 day or weekly tickets, our recommendation would be a 2 day ticket because you will never see all the shows in one day.
Reaumur is named after the scientist who invented the thermometer and there is an interesting science museum in his honour just across the road.
The huge twisting lake at Rochereau has numerous beaches and picnic areas. The Morlieres restaurant set high on a hill overlooking the lake is one of our favourites with a lovely outdoor terrace and grassy hill down to the lake and beach. On the restaurant theme, "The Casse Croute" in Pouzauges is a fabulous quirky restaurant serving a wide menu of local dishes as well as traditional favourites. Well worth a visit.
The Forest of Adventures in Mervent is a spectacular high wire forest with jumps, dives, and zip wires. Great day out but exhausting! For younger guests the Parc de Pierre Brun is a must do. Somehow stuck in a time warp it is a charming fun park set over several acres with loads of rides, old trains, chair planes, bumper boats, and bouncy castle. A great day out for all the family. For walking, hiking, biking and boating the 200 hectare forest at Mervent is spectacular and only 15 minutes away; there are also numerous local walking trails within easy distance of the house.
We had a lovely fortnight staying in this old village house which was renovated and retaining some lovely original features. The house was clean & welcoming. The owner had left a lovely welcome pack for us on our arrival. The pool was an added bonus especially as it was heated. We had one little issue with the pool and the owner sorted that out immediately. The village was larger than we had expected and the local boulangerie, grocery store & pub were only a 2 minute walk away. The pub is very quirky.
We took our dog on holiday with us and found the whole area to be very accommodating, no problem taking her into restaurants etc. We did not go to some of the bigger attractions of the area but the oriental gardens, chateaux, beaches etc were all within an hour or so.
We found the owners of this property to be relaxed, welcoming, and very helpful and we would stay again.
We were very pleased with the house, and had a really wonderful holiday. The owners were very helpful. Could do with an upstairs shower and hand rail for stairs into 3rd bedroom. Would recommend this house.
