We had a fantastic couple of weeks at la maison du puits. The hosts, dawn and Chris are welcoming and friendly, and will bend over backwards to help with any requests that you may have. The gite is incredibly well stocked, they have thought of everything and it really is home from home and immaculately clean.
The weather was fantastic so we were able to make full advantage of the pool, which had been recently refined and had a real luxurious feel to it.
There’s lots to do in the local area, and dawn and Chris are a minefield of information of where are the best places to visit. We tried out the local auberge restaurant and this comes highly recommended.
We’re a large family with preteens and teenagers, and everyone had a fantastic time.
Fully recommended and we’ll definitely be back.
We have stayed in dozens of gites in France over the last 15 years and this is one of the best. It is spotlessly clean, well maintained, with large airy rooms. The garden and pool area is lovely - if you want a peaceful relaxing holiday - this gite is for you. The welcoming and friendly owners Chris and Dawn are on site if you need any help or information regarding the area. If you like cycling, walking and wildlife it is ideally situated. If you want beaches or busy resorts then they are only a short drive away. This is a gite we will return to year after year.
Lovely cottage with big garden and fabulous pool area, spotless and very well equipped, fluffy towels in the bathroom and very comfy beds.
The boys enjoyed the table tennis table, loads of other indoor and outdoor games for every age.
Dawn and Chris were on hand if needed but not invasive and the little dog Molly was a cheeky visitor.
We would recommend the area for dog walks and many attractions from puy du fou to La Rochelle within 45 mins drive. We would definitely recommend this property.
This is a great place to stay, just right for a party of five or six either with or without kids. The maison was spotless and had all the kit we needed to cook etc. The garden was super with use of a table tennis table, badminton, boules etc. The pool was fantastic for us and we used whenever we the weather allowed, and even sometimes when the sun was hidden as it remained warm enough. Chris and Dawn were super hosts, not at all intrusive but there if needed.
It's a rural location and amenities were a bit of a drive away but that is what we wanted. Importantly La Rochelle and ile de rey were easy to get to. Puy Du Fou was just over an hour away and that is a great day out.
So overall if coming back to sud vendee we would stay here. I would not hesitate to recommend to friends or family, in fact we already have.
The website truly reflects what you can expect and helps you plan your stay. I would say you do need 2 weeks to get the most out of this region.
