Cognac is a two hour drive from the house and is a lovely day out and should include a visit to a distillery.
Nantes is a hour and a half drive and is a very old city that has a lot to see and do during the day and evening.
La Rochelle is a hour drive is a lovely old fishing port that has a good selection of restaurants and shops. There are also boat trips out to the smaller islands and to Fort Bouyard.
A fabulous island off La Rochelle – costs about 15 GBP to go over in the car but well worth it – once on the island hire bikes for the day. Explore picturesque ports, light houses, forts, salt marshes, sandy beaches and seafood producers. A perfect day out.
Check out the boat trips to Fort Boyard and the local islands The “Venise Verte”, or "Green Venice" marshes. This area of the marshland known as the Marais Poitevin, features a magical maze of tree-lined, duckweed-covered canals.
This historic port approx an hours drive south makes a wonderful day-trip. It’s full of cobbled streets, ancient buildings and interesting museums. Great places to eat along the water’s edge and not too expensive.
L'Absie is approximately 5 minutes from Salvaison (north) . The village itself is well served by bars, a restaurant, boulangerie, grocery store, newsagents and a charcuterie/deli and small supermarket. St Hilaire De Voust is 4km south and has a nice patisserie/bread shop. Lion D’or is an amazing restaurant – excellent prices seriously worth a visit!
Best beach in our opinion is La Faute sur Mer with pine forest and miles of clean sand! There are also many lakes nearby with beaches and swimming. Approx 50 minutes drive but allow for heavy summer traffic especially early August.
We had a fantastic week. The house was very clean and tidy stocked with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. We especially loved opening the shutters to the amazing views in the morning and lazing around the pool. Great local restaurants and lots to do in the local area including woodland walks, renting a little boat and lots of market trips. Nice little run out to some fabulous beaches and ile de rae. Fantastic holiday we will definitely be back again.
Thank you for your comments. Glad you had a good time and do hope that you do return in the future. Thanks again. Roy
We had a lovely stay at Salvaison, it started well with a prompt response from the owners, and an efficient booking experience.
We were given loads of information about the local area by the owners, and enjoyed using the bikes and walking in the lovely countryside.
The swimming pool was fabulous and we spent a lot if time swimming and sunbathing round the pool, in an idyllic tranquil setting..
The house was spotlessly clean, and was really well equipped.
A perfect location for a truly relaxing holiday.
Thank you for the nice review and we look forwards to seeing you again this year.
I really couldn't find any fault - the house is beautiful and in such a lovely setting - it has all the home comforts you could ask for, big open spaces, spotless rooms decorated very traditionally and enormous garden and pool area. The sun was shining and the view outside of the bedroom window every morning was a real treat. Would highly recommend this accommodation.
Glad you enjoyed the house as much as you did. Thank you for the good review.
Hope to see you again.
We visited Salvaison in September, our main aim was for some peaceful relaxation and late summer sun.
The villa is situated in typical French countryside about 10 mins drive from the local town and about an hour from the airport at La Rochelle. However because it is so well appointed with lots of land and a swimming pool we found it difficult to drag ourselves away at all!
The Villa itself is beautiful, modern whilst retaining a lot of its original features. The bedrooms are large as is the living area and its very difficult to find anything that wasn't perfect.
We will certainly be returning in 2017.
Thanks very much for your nice review of our hour and glad that you enjoyed it as much as we do. We look forwards to having you visit again.
