House In Quite Village Of Les Pineaux Vendee. This cottage/gite is in a village setting.

Our Cottage is situated in the village of Les Pineaux 5 minutes from junction six of the A83 approximately two and a half hours drive from the port of St Malo and 45 minutes from La Rochelle airport.

The property is believed to be about two hundred years old and was renovated in 2006, keeping many of the original features oak beams both down and upstairs a stone fire place in the lounge and lime render to the walls. The large lounge diner with original oak beams large fire place with a woodburner, has a large comfortable suite that seats six people, with satellite tv dvd and cd players. The dining area has a dining table that seats six, with an open tread stair case leading to landing area bedrooms and shower room. Please note open tread stairs may not be suitable for small children.
Upstairs the main bedroom features a double bed with a dressing table, a bedside cabinet a large wardrobe with draws, a bedside light and electric heater.
The second bedroom features 2 single beds with a bedside cabinet, bedside light, double wardrobe and electric heater.

The shower room, features shower cubical, hand basin and wc. Hot water for washing and showering is provided by a large capacity immersion heater.
No bed linen or towels provided.
No smoking permitted inside the house.

Outside area, a small enclosed garden with patio furniture and a small barbecue. (A sun trap from morning till night). Just the spot to relax and chill with a nice glass of wine maybe some local bread, cheese and pate as we do after a day on the beach or site seeing.

There is also a park about 100 yards away from the house with a children's play area.

The nearest supermarket, shops, restaurants, bars and garage can be found at Mareuil-Sur-Lay 6km away there is also boating, fishing on the river (permit from the bar in the town car park) a public swimming pool, local wine available from the local Caves.

Nearest large town Lucon 15km, with two large supermarkets and a market on Saturday selling fresh fish, fruit and vegetables.

The nearest beach and sea side town La Tranche-Sur-Mer 40km with lots of shops, bars, restaurants and a market in the town square on Saturday morning La Rochelle 60km away La Roche-sur-yon 24km

Kitchen equipped with an electric cooker, washing machine, microwave oven, kettle, toaster, fridge, small freeze, crockery and cutlery.

Downstairs wc off kitchen.

Living rooms

A large combined lounge dining room with a large suite consisting of one three seater sofa one tow seater sofa and a large arm chair plenty of room for a family, heating if required from a wood burner and electric heaters.
The dining area has a large dining table that seats six people this leads onto the open tread stairs.
Please note open tread stairs to landing may not be suitable for small children.


First bedroom features a double bed, large wardrobe, dressing table, bed side unit, bed side light and electric heaters.
Second bedroom features two single beds, bed side cabinet, bed side light, a double wardrobe and electric heater.


Shower room only with shower cubical wash hand basin and wc.
There is also a wc of the kitchen


Heating provided by wood burner in the lounge and electric heaters in the rest of the property


Flat screen television, British satellite tv system, dvd and cd player there is also a small selection of books, cds and dvds.

Garden and outside

Outside area, a small enclosed private garden with patio furniture and a small barbecue. (A sun trap from morning till night).Just the spot to relax and chill with a nice glass of wine and maybe some local bread cheese or pate as we do after a day on the beach or site seeing

Parking and garages

Sorry no off road parking but you can park on the side of the road just pass the front door of the house (see photo) or 70 meters in the parking square near the village park.

Visitor suitability

Suitable for couples and families but may not be suitable for toddlers due to the open tread stairs.
Not suitable for persons with certain disabilities because the bedrooms and shower room are upstairs.
Please, no smoking in the cottage.

Information about any additional facilities

Hair drier provided.
Iron and ironing board available.
Quilts and pillows provided but guests are asked to bring their own duvet covers, pillow cases and towels.

Why this location? We have visited France on holidays for many years both south and west but we fell in love with Vendee with its beautiful beaches and county side.

La Tranche-sur-Mer and La Conches for swimming surfing and wind surfing (for beginners tuition available but you will need to book for lessons)
La Tranche has a number of good restaurants,bars and plenty of shops so if you don't want beach activities there are plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by.

The coastal town of La Rochelle is well worth a visit - with lots to do for all of the family. There is a fantastic aquarium with a large shark tank and rain forest area, an old port with restaurants spilling out onto the pavements, lots of boutique shops set in arcaded streets and a large market hall selling locally caught seafood and locally grown fruit and vegetables.
The Marais Poitevin Regional Park
The area known as the 'Venise Verte' forms part of the Marais Poitevin Regional Park - here you can spend a lazy day punting around the vast network of canals. -
