Outside it has a lockable detached double garage and ample off road parking. There are gardens to the front, sides and fully enclosed rear garden with a large picnic table and large gazebo.
After a long trip the last thing you want is to arrive late with nothing to eat or drink and the shops have all closed. That's why we leave a welcome pack for our guests. It is only a carton of orange juice, a bottle of milk, a bottle of wine, tub of butter, a baguette and a small sliced loaf but when you arrive it is very welcome.
There is a small supermarket a 5 minute walk from the house in the local village of Le Boupere. Le Boupere has shops, cafe bars and a very good restaurant. A riding school is 5 minute walk in the other direction on the road to Les Herbiers.
Les Herbiers and Pouzauges are large towns within 10 kms with large shopping centres, swimming pools with water slides, cinemas, theatres, cafes and lots of good restaurants. For the more sporty types there is fishing, go karting, canoing, kayaking, archery and sports centres within easy striking distance.
The house is a 15 minutes drive of the Puy de Fou & only 1 hours drive from the Atlantic coast. It is 1 hours drive from Nantes and La Rochelle airports & a 3 hours drive from St Malo.

We always loved France, the French & the French way of life. We have holidayed extensively in France & particularly liked the Vendee area. We stayed in some "interesting" holiday homes which weren't what we expected or wanted. When we finally got the opportunity to do something about it we bought the holiday home we did want. It is a large house with a large garden set in a little tranquil hamlet just outside Le Boupere. We have had all sorts of guests, large &small families, couples & friends.

|Why this location?||We liked the area and we were especially keen to be near the Puy du Fou which has been voted the best visitor attraction in France. The area is quiet but within striking distance of he coast and there are zoo's, fishing lakes, swimming pool centres, shops and wonderful cafes and restaurants locally.|
|Unique benefits of property||It is a large house with 5 separate bedrooms. Each bedroom contains a double (Or larger) bed and 1 of the rooms also has a 3/4 bed. The house is also suited for people with limited mobility as both side entrances have metal handrails. One of the double bedrooms is on the ground floor and there is also a shower room and separate toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs there is a bathroom containing a WC, slipper bath and wash basin. The house has ample off road parking and 1.75 acres of grounds. A section of the rear garden is fully enclosed with gated access for child safety. We have tried to make it a home from home and we have had many positive comments confirming that is what we have done. It is a 5 minute walk from the local supermarket and the town of Le Boupere. About 1 mile up the road is a riding stables. Les Herbier & Pouzages are 6 miles away and have all the shops, etc you could want. It is a 1 hour drive to the coast & best of all the Puy du Fou is only a 10 minute drive away|
This web site details the many attractions of the Vendee. There is lots to do.
The Puy du Fou has been voted the best tourist attraction in France. It is a fabulous attraction and the night time show has the largest cast of actors in the world and is spectacular
Le Puy de Forge is a lovely house, very large and very French. The rooms are spacious, and the window shutters and tiled floors keep the rooms beautifully cool during the hot summer days. There are only four of us (2 adults, 2 children) so there were several rooms in the house that we didn’t use at all but it was nice to have the space and everywhere was extremely clean.
The roads around the house are generally quiet (barring agricultural machinery, but we did stay at the height of the harvest and the children were excited to watch the tractors and combine harvesters going past!) so we had some pleasant bike rides. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to find any local parks for the children to play in but the garden is large and secure so they had plenty of space for running around. There’s a barbecue in the garage which we used a couple of times, and the garage is secure so we were happy to leave our bicycles in there.
John (the owner) is quick to reply to emails, and very helpful, and while we stayed in the house we also had contact numbers for local people who could assist us in case of any issues or emergencies.
In terms of local attractions, Poy du Fou is a definite must for a visit, as are the beaches of the Atlantic coast. While going to the coast was a bit of a trek, it was well worth it and we visited several really lovely, family-friendly beaches. Bioparc de Doué la Fontaine was somewhere else that we would highly recommend visitors to Le Puy de Forge to visit.
I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday so much. I have tried to make the house a home from home so people feel relaxed while they are on holiday, I think it has worked. Thanks for being great guests, I hope you stay again sometime.
