We have been travelling to France for many years and have dreamed of purchasing a home for our family. It all came together finally last year and we are delighted that La Grateliere is now a wonderful second home for ourselves and our family.

|Why this location?||The Vendee region is just fantastic! It is a relatively short journey from St Malo, Le Havre & Caen (3 to 4 hours) but the weather here is just like being in the South! There is so much to do in a very short drive time from the house and you can be on the fabulous Vendee beaches or visit Ile de Re in no time... The peaceful countryside location of La Grateliere with the stunning views and running/riding potential of the Gatine Hills made us fall in love with this lovely house but still being in close proximity of a town with good supermarkets, vets etc made it just perfect...|
|Unique benefits of property||There is no nicer place to switch off and relax|
La Rochelle and the Vendee beaches are a one hour drive away.
Theme park and light show well worth a visit and within 35 minutes by car.
Mervent Forest is a 20 min drive away where there is a fresh water lake and beach.
Nearby Parc Pierre Brune is an adventure playground for children and teenagers.
The gite is a beautiful but old lovely farm house, positioned in-between a lovely English couple and a French owned infrequently visited property, to the rear of the property overlooking wheat fields and the hills beyond.
There is a very large lounge which has a massive table seating up to 10 people with ease plus large separate kitchen / dinner. The kitchen is well equipped, the only gripe is that the fridge and in particularly the freezer compartment is a tad small for a large party.
There are four spacious bedrooms, beware of the low beams plus toilet / shower upstairs - it gets warm up there as the windows are small but fans are provided to assist in air movement.
There is a fabulous bathroom downstairs complete with full size bath, toilet and shower plus also another separate toilet. These are off a great playroom with a table tennis table which can be wheeled outside, plus table football and electronic darts which we enjoyed
The garden is large which included a wooden decked eating area along with a clean and well looked after in ground pool - the pool man visited whilst we were there to clean and check over
We had a great holiday with seven adults plus dogs - the area is very quite but that's the way we like it, with wonderful dark skies for star gazing and a well stocked large super U supermarket 15 minutes away. The unmissable Puy Du Foy is 50 minutes away and the coast can be reached approximately 1hr 40 minutes away
We stayed at La Grateliere for the last two weeks of August this year. The property is very comfortable and well equipped, with big airy rooms and lovely views from the back terrace over rolling farmland. There is plenty of space outside for playing football or boules, and the table football game in the play room was a great hit with my grandson.
There are a number of good restaurants within a twenty minute drive, and several local supermarkets well stocked with local produce. Further afield there are the towns of La Rochelle and Les Sables D'Olonnes for more variety and, at Les Sables a wonderful beach that was great with for small children.
We had a great time with our family and grandchildren at this lovely spot.
We have been in France in campsites and houses over the last 14 years almost every year, and this house was exactly as described and as expected, and even nicer when we actually lived there. The pool was perfect and the view out back was lovely over a beautiful small farmed hillside. The house was well equipped and we lacked nothing in that regard. The owners kept in regular contact in the build-up and made us feel very welcome, and left contacts for us to use while there, though we didnt need to use them. St Pierre du Chemin nearby had a shop and bakery, and sold stamps, etc, while there were two good supermarkets about 8km away. Puy du Fou was 40 minutes away, lots of small local chateaux, no major industrial areas nearby, quiet countryside all round. We got great weather. Not too many restaurants nearby, but then again we didn't look too hard, happy to self-cater at home. Price of rental was as would be expected. I would recommend it to others. Again, owners were very pleasant to deal with. Angers and La Rochelle about 1hour15mins away. Lovely spot for a get-away-from-it-all holiday.
What a wonderful out of the way place to have a holiday. All you need with a pool that is not overlooked and views of the French countryside.
The facilities were good with everything that you need for a nice relaxing time, we both recommend it.
