La Maison en Pierre is a well-restored family-friendly farmhouse set in the pretty village of St Juire Champgillon in the Vendée, Western France.
This large house has 5 bedrooms (4 with en suite bathrooms & an extra shower & wc on the ground floor), there is a comfortable lounge with leather sofas, a wood burner for the winter months and a formal dining table and chairs. The kitchen is fully equipped with a range cooker and everything that you would need to cater for up to 10 guests, including a seating area and utility room.
Outside there is a sheltered courtyard with dining tables, chairs and parasols and a games room stocked with lots of toys and games for children of all ages. There is even a selection of bikes to use.
The 5000m² garden is well cared for - with lawns, pretty flower beds, a vegetable garden and chickens. (You can help yourselves to the eggs each morning or pick some fruit when in season!).
There is also a 10m x 5m heated swimming pool and a paddling pool for younger children - along with lots of sun loungers for relaxing and reading a book whilst sunbathing.
La Maison en Pierre is only a 50 minute drive to the beaches of the Southern Vendee and less than an hour to the Puy du Fou theme park.
The large kitchen has an electric double oven with gas hob, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffee maker. There is a long table with benches in the kitchen, a formal dining table and chairs in the lounge and patio tables and chairs in the courtyard.
For younger children - a high chair and plastic cutlery and crockery is available.
Tea Towels are provided.
There are 3 leather recliner sofas in the lounge, along with a wood burner for the cooler winter months. The tv has UK free to air satellite channels and wi-fi is available throughout the house. A computer and desk is also situated in the hallway. The formal dining table (to seat 10 guests) is located at the back of the lounge, leading in to the kitchen.
There are 5 bedrooms at La Maison en Pierre - 4 are on the first floor (two double bedrooms and 2 twin bedrooms), and one is on the ground floor (Large double bedroom with seating area). The first floor bedrooms all have an en suite bathroom or shower room.
A cot and stair gates are provided for younger children.
All bed linens are provided.
The ground floor has a shower room and separate wc and there are four further bathrooms on the first floor - all en suite to the bedrooms. (3 have showers, sinks and wc, 1 has a full sized bath, overhead shower, sink and wc).
All bath and hand towels are provided.
The house has radiators throughout and wood burner for the cooler winter months.
A heating supplement of €80 per week is payable upon arrival for the use of the heating.
There is a large games room in the courtyard with toys, games, books, dvds and PS2 console, plus bikes.
Directly behind the house is a sheltered courtyard with tables, chairs and a bbq. There is a gate separating this area from the off-road parking area (for 4 cars). The large gardens are laid mainly to lawns and have a set of swings, an area with chickens and several mature fruit trees.
The swimming pool is open and heated from May until the end of September each year and is securely fenced for the security of your children.
The pool is 10mx5m and has a paddling pool next to it for younger children. There are lots of sun loungers in this area and a couple of picnic tables in the shade of the large walnut trees.
There is off-road parking for up to 6 cars.
This house is very family friendly - with highchairs, cots, toys, plastic utensils and stair gates for younger children.
It would also be suitable for guests with limited mobility as there is a double bedroom and shower room on the ground floor.
Wi-fi is available throughout the house.
This house can be rented with another 2 bedroom property on the same site - La Vieille Maison - for larger family gatherings.
The property owners live on site.
The large Courtyard, Games room, pool and gardens are shared between the two properties.
We are Mick and Jan, and we purchased our homes in France in 2005. We live in the barn next door, and we are currently finishing a renovation project to make that our home.

|Why this location?||We have always enjoyed a good renovation project and this property offered the opportunity to bring back to life two old farmhouses and a barn. We spent several years completing the projects and can now relax a little bit and enjoy the lovely scenery and gardens. The village has a good restaurant and the beach is only 50 minutes away! There's always something interesting going on nearby and the country walks are great.|

The coastal town of La Rochelle is well worth a visit - with lots to do for all of the family. There is a fantastic aquarium with a large shark tank and rain forest area, an old port with restaurants spilling out onto the pavements, lots of boutique shops set in arcaded streets and a large market hall selling locally caught seafood and locally grown fruit and vegetables. Over the bridge to the Ile de Ré - and you escape from the hustle and bustle of big city life - with quaint harbour-side villages and windswept beaches, plus great seafood restaurants and donkeys in pyjamas!
The area known as the 'Venise Verte' forms part of the Marais Poitevin Regional Park - here you can spend a lazy day punting around the vast network of canals - spotting the local wildlife and drifting past ruined abbeys and pretty villages. Lots of canal-side restaurants and historical buildings to see.
The Puy du Fou Theme Park is an experience not to be missed! This park has won several Global Awards over the past couple of years and they are constantly adding new features. You can watch the Vikings, Gladiators, Musketeers and Medieval Knights, plus there is the best Bird of Prey Show that you are ever likely to view - with over a 100 birds flying around you and landing next to you! Also not to be missed, is the Spectacular Evening show - with over 1200 participants and an impressive fireworks display at the end!
