About this property

Family Holiday Home, Far-reaching Countryside Views. This cottage/gite is in a rural setting.

Les Ammonites is a 3 bedroom holiday home with a heated pool and a huge garden set in a lovely countryside location - great for families. Recently awarded a 3 star rating from the local Tourist Board through Gites de France.

Les Ammonites Holiday Home is so called due to the large fossil Ammonites found in the exterior walls during the renovation project that the owners undertook when they first bought the house. There are now 3 comfortable bedrooms on the first floor (1 double and 2 twin rooms) and an open plan ground floor with lounge/dining area/fully equipped kitchen.

The house has been renovated to a high standard and has kept a lot of the traditional features with exposed oak beams and original stone work on show.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything that you would need for a comfortable holiday and there is an exterior dining area with tables, chairs and barbecue so that you can take full advantage of those warm sunny evenings!

Les Ammonites is a great base for family holidays and has lots of tourist attractions within easy reach - such as The Puy du Fou Theme Park - only 30 minutes away, The O'Gliss Water Park, golf courses, the Marais Poitevin Canals and lots more besides.

It is open from April until November each year, and welcomes pets outside of the main summer school holidays. Short breaks of 3 nights or more can be accommodated outside of July and August too.

The friendly owners, Paul & Isabelle, live on site and are there to help you get the best out of your holiday.

Kitchen and dining

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and range-cooker with gas hob, microwave, washing machine, kettle, toaster and coffee maker.

The ground floor is open plan, with a dining area located next to the kitchen. The dining table can seat up to 6 guests and there is a further table and chairs in the courtyard garden.

Living rooms

There is a comfortable lounge seating area with large sofas, tv, dvd player, UK & French tv channels, wi-fi internet access and wood burning stove for the cooler winter months.

The building is constructed using thick stone walls, so stays nice and cool during the summer and warm during the winter months.

The wooden staircase leads up to the first floor, where you will find 3 good sized bedrooms - all with plenty of storage space. 1 bedroom has a double bed and 2 rooms each have 2 single beds.

A cot, highchair and stairgate are available for younger children.

There is a ground floor cloakroom with space to hang coats and a wc and on the first floor, there is a shower room and separate wc.

There is a woodburner in the living room and a central heating system with radiators throughout the house.

The house is surrounded by the large gardens - where you can play football, cricket or badminton - or just run around with the owners very friendly dog - Stanley!
Inside, there are lots of books and board games to play with, but most of the time you will want to be enjoying yourselves outside in the garden, on the swings or splashing around in the heated pool!

Garden and outside

Outside, there is a large lawned courtyard with barbecue and seating area, along with a much larger (5000m²) garden, with a swing set, orchard and heated above-ground pool.
There are sun loungers near the pool, and this area is fenced off from the courtyard garden for the safety of your children.

The garden has panoramic views over the surrounding countryside and is a great place for sitting and watching the sun go down with a glass of local wine.

Parking and garages

There is off-road parking in the courtyard for up to 3 cars.

Visitor suitability

Les Ammonites is suitable for families and provides a cot, highchair, stairgate and plastic cutlery & crockery for younger children.

About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Annette Khan

Hello, we are Paul & Isabelle and we live on site in France and have had our holiday homes in the Vendée since 2005. The holiday rentals are managed by Annette, who lives nearby.

Year property purchased 2005
Why this location? Isabelle's family have roots in the area and when moving back to France they decided to buy a group of old farm buildings as they could see the potential to bring them back to life!
The area has some beautiful countryside - with rolling hills, with rivers and lakes - ideal for outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling and fishing.
The gardens have been laid to lawns and have lovely views across open country where you can spot fields of sunflowers, deer running into the forests or birds of prey hovering over the fields. The night skies are also so clear that you can even see the Milky Way with the the naked eye.
Whenever Paul & Isabelle fancy a day at the beach, they only need to drive 50 minutes, and they are at the seaside resort of Les Sables d'Olonne, with its miles of sandy beaches, promenade, weekly markets and bustling harbour with lots of restaurants selling freshly caught seafood.
Unique benefits of property Les Ammonites Holiday Home is only a 30 minute drive from the World Famous Puy du Fou Theme Park - where you will be transported back in time to the age of the gladiators, vikings, medieval knights, and musketeers. There is also a spectacular evening show with over a 1000 participants and a not-to-be-missed bird of prey show - Le Bal des Oiseaux Fantomes.
If you are looking for peace and tranquility, then this is the place to be! Set in a small hamlet, with little passing traffic, yet less than a 10 minute drive to a busy town with supermarkets, banks, restaurants and summer festivals.
Les Ammonites can also be rented with our other holiday home - La Maison du Soleil. They are both in the same location and can cater for up to 10 guests (plus 2 babies) in total.

The Owner Recommends

The Puy du Fou Theme Park

Not to be missed when visiting The Vendée!! This is a theme park like no other - you will be transported back in time to the age of the gladiators, vikings, musketeers, medieval knights and will have the time of your life! There is also a fantastic Bird of Prey show - with hundreds of birds swooping all around. In the evening, there is a Grande Finale - either a musical set on a lake, or the spectacular Cinescenie, with over 1200 participants, a fireworks display and lots more!!

The Marais Poitevin Canal Network and Regional Park

This is the 'Venise Verte' network of canals and ruined abbeys located in the south of the Vendée and into the neighbouring department. You can have a relaxing day exploring the canals - either on foot, by bike or being punted along the canals -passing by abbeys and seeing lots of local wildlife. Lots of pretty villages dotted along the canals where you can have lunch and wander along the tow paths.

The O'Gliss Water Park and Indian Adventure Park

The Water Park opened in time for summer 2016, and this was a big hit with holiday makers of all ages. There is a large area with water slides, several rivers to glide down, a beach area to relax in - with wave machines and a children's play area with small slides and amusements.
The Indian Forest Adventure Park (run by the same company) has water slides, wooden karting tracks through the trees, zip wires and lots more adrenaline pumping activities!
