The cottage is a renovated stable block in the rear of what was once a hotel facing on to the village square and the beautiful castle and church. The open plan cottage is set in a sunny courtyard with parking and has access to a large sunny garden with a patio and covered dining area, a large enclosed sandpit, swings, slide and other garden toys.
The pool area is also enclosed and is aprox 7.5mx4.5m with a decking surround and sun loungers. The pool is quite shallow and heated comfortably so ideal for children and adults. The pool terrace is in full sun from morning until late evening and is not overlooked.
We live in the main house with our two boys (aged 19 and 15) and we may occasionally use the garden and pool but mostly you will have it to yourselves. The village of Bazoges is very pretty and dominated by the 'donjon' or fortified castle in the centre and the romanesque church. There is a very highly regarded restaurant a short stroll away and also a boulangerie and new well stocked grocery store with a small bar and terrace and pharmacy. For bigger shopping, the town of Chantonnay is 10k away and has a large variety of big hypermarkets and other shops.
The ground floor of the gite is open plan with the galley style kitchen at one end and lounge at the other with the dining area in between. It is a large area and stays cool even in the hot summer. The kitchen has a five ring range style gas cooker and is otherwise very well equipped. The tv receives English and French satellite channels and there is good wi-fi throughout

We are Jane and Brian and our two boys, Joey and Billy. We moved to France in 2003 and run two gites, this house in Reaumur and another at our home in Bazoges en Pareds. We love this part of France because there is so much to see and do here and also because of its easy accessability.
|Year property purchased||2003|
|Why this location?||Its near to the coast but away from the bustle, in the beautiful rolling hills of the Vendée and with loads of things to do and see.|
|Unique benefits of property||Our cottage is in the heart of the village with lots of facilities on the doorstep. A well stocked shop and bar and a well regarded restaurant within a short walk. English speaking doctor and pharmacy. Larger towns with big hypermarkets within ten minuted and loats of tourist attractions including the world famous Puy du Fou nearby.|
The lake at Rochereau has a huge coastline (28kms) and have many picnic areas and fabulous views from many of the walking tracks. The lovely and very popular restaurant at Les Morlieres has a terrace overlooking the lake and play areas for the kids, ideal for a long lazy lunch.
The village of Bazoes is dominated by the pretty castle known as the "Donjon". This is the French word for a fortified keep and thin one has been here for over a thousand years. You can visit and climb right to the top for fantastic views (and wave to the kids in the pool!). The donjon ir also and interesting musuem of medieval living and the gardens and pigonniere are also well worth a visit.
Fifteen minutes from Bazoges is the village of Vouvant. Classsified and one of the "Plus belle villages de France" it has become a magnet for artists and craftspeople and has many interesting galleries, shops and restaurants. Lovely location and an interesting day out.
Several hundreds of hectares make this one of the largest desiduous forests in France. Spectacular views down into the lakes, hundreds of miles of walking and cycling tracks and numerous picnic areas. Also home to the Pierre Brun park (a must for the younger kids) and a high wire tree top park for the older ones. Boat rides and kayaking on the lake and numerous restaurants and also a very nice little zoo.
This incredible theme park gets bigger and better every year and has been recognised at The best Theme Park in the World on several occasions. From the amazing bird show tp the Roman gladiators to the moving First World War show this park needs several days to see properly. The night time show is so spectacular if is really hard to describe it but also incredibly popular so need to be booked well in advance
If you have younger children in your party this is a must do. A bit old fashioned and very typically French, the park is huge and has attractions for all the family including bumper boats, huge bouncy castles, chair-o-planes, a clanking train that carries your around, crazy golf and much more. A great value day out for the whole family.
No trip to the Vendee would be complete without a day at the sea. Our nearest and favourite coastal resort is La Tranche sur Mer which is just under one hours drive. It s a licely town with lots of interesting shops and restaurants and a long sandy beach right next to the town centre. Best of all, after your day in the sun you can drive away from the frantic coastal traffic and back to the peaceful surroundings of Bazoges!
Great base for travelling, mostly comfortable other than the mattress, good garden, al fresco eating and bbq area, lovely pool to refresh in at the end of a busy day.
Niggly little things like the flush not working, having to replace a shower head and multiple bulbs out on the lights, and no decent coffee making facilities
