My wife and I live and work in North Yorkshire. We are both in our early 60's. We have two children and four grandchildren.
We bought the cottage as a 'renovation project' and have spent the last 10 years of our 'holidays' doing just that!
We have made many friends in the village over the years and always look forward to returning each year and meeting them again.

|Why this location?||We wanted a quiet rural area for our cottage but also to be able to quickly access the fantastic attractions of the Vendée.
The cottage nestles in a small farming village of around 60 inhabitants and is surrounded by fields and quiet lanes. It is an ideal place for cycling, walking or just chilling out.
There are good roads leading to the many local attractions and the motorway is only around 20 kms away.
|Unique benefits of property||This traditional village cottage has been extensively modernised yet still retains the character charm with beamed ceilings, cottage style doors and a large stone fireplace.
The large lawned, south facing garden has an abundance of fruit trees and grape vines whilst under the pagoda sits a large hot tub spa for guests use.
The peace and quite of the area makes the stress of working life just melt away (after a couple of glasses of the local wine it's gone completely!)
Surrounded by the 'Bocage',rolling hills and small valleys it is crossed with quite country lanes which make it perfect for walkers or cyclists.
Although in a rural position the cottage is within an easy drive to many local attractions and the coast.
Less than 10 minutes drive away lies the village of Vouvant, claimed to be one of the prettiest villages in France.
Dominated by an 11th century church and the Melusine tower (part of the original fortifications). The ramparts of this fortified village rise majestically above the sides of the river Mere. Here the narrow streets and picturesque stone houses with painted shutters and flowers growing out of the roadside and in pots make this an idyllic place to just stroll around or sit at one of the bars or cafes and take in its beauty.
Here in this pretty village you will find an 11th century Medieval Donjon (castle keep), which has been restored to its former glory. The spiral staircase rises through six floors to the roof ramparts which give spectacular views of the medieval gardens, the village and surrounding countryside.
The Donjon is open to the public as a museum and the outbuildings contain an interesting museum of early Vendee life.
The medieval gardens contain a good collection of plants and herbs which would have been grown in these early times. There is also an excellent pigeon house which has been restored.
The Renaissance town of Fontenay-le-Comte is often referred to as the prettiest town in the Vendée and is surely one of the prettiest in France being listed in the "Plus Beau detours de France".
The walled medieval castle, of which unfortunately only some of the ramparts, gateway and tower now remain. Surrounding these ruins lies the renaissance heart of the city. This beautiful area of 15th and 16th century buildings sitting astride narrow roads, lanes and courtyards is now a conservation area.
For an enjoyable day out visit to the Market on Saturday mornings . Check out the food market stalls and the covered meat and fish market, quite an experience!
Probably the best theme park in France!
If you are young or old you just have to visit this attraction.
There is too much to list here but check out their web site www.puydufou.com/en
Just a couple of tips.... buy a two day ticket as you will not see it all in one day, and take packed lunches with you, as the food there requires a second mortgage!
With over 5000 hectares of woodland this is the largest forest in the Vendee.
Laid out with around 200 kms of well marked footpaths and mountain bike trails it is heaven for walkers and cyclists alike
The rivers Mere and the Vendee flow through the forest and offer an abundance of different fish species, an ideal place for the keen fisherman!
For the birdwatcher the forest is home to a wide variety of birds including Black Kites, Kingfishers, the extremely rare Short Toed Eagle and two rare varieties of Magpie.
Among the many mammals both Deer and wild Boar can often be seen feeding and foraging.
For the family there is a small zoo and a traditional fun park.
