My name is Jo and I moved from Bristol to the Vendee in 2012. I live with my husband Dave and our son, Jenson who is 10 years old. Dave renovated the house as it had been empty for 12 years before our arrival and needed a lot of work! I teach English in a language centre in La Roche sur Yon, which I love. It has been a great adventure!

|Why this location?||Our house is tucked away down a quiet country lane between Angles and Longeville sur Mer. The location of the house appealed to us immediately as it's so quiet, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside and the only noises you hear are the birds and the odd tractor! Children can ride their bikes safely up and down the lane and just around the corner there are waterways (Marais) where you can spend an afternoon on a canoe or rowing boat picking sloe berries from the hedgerows! The coast is just over a 5 minute drive away but there are also plenty of local amenities nearby. The nearest supermarket, bakery, chemist, Post Office, bank and newsagents are just minutes away in Longeville sur Mer and there is a bustling market twice weekly in July and August which offers an abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat and other goodies!
Look out for the TOUR DE FRANCE which passes through the area on its first day in the first week of July, 2018!!
|Unique benefits of property||A newly refurbished property in a peaceful location, we have a large vegetable garden and chickens so fresh veg and eggs on request are available (providing the chickens are behaving!)|
Starts in the Vendee this year on Saturday, 7th July, 2018 and will be passing through the area on the first day. Check the Tour de France web site for details.
Just ten minutes away there is the beautiful coastal town and port of Jard sur Mer with lots of character, great restaurants and gorgeous beaches. La Tranche sur Mer is extremely popular with tourists and offers an array of shops, cafes and restaurants. Its seafront is superb. There is a market in the town square every Saturday morning and a free bus that the children will love to hop on and see the sites! There are also indoor and outdoor swimming pools with a slide.
Fantastic fun for both adults and children alike. O'Gliss water park opened last Summer and proved to be extremely popular! Just ten minutes away.
A beautiful place with a small selection of restaurants overlooking the boats. Just moments away on the road to yet another fantastic beach there is a great 'old fashioned' childrens park and mini golf course (La Beliere Loisirs) which although you have to pay a few euros to get in is well worth it! Great for a very sunny day as it's beautifully shaded by the trees. Super place to take a picnic!
Just two minutes drive from our house. Take a boat or canoe around the waterways of Longeville sur Mer (between 1-2 hours depending on how fit your feeling!) Amazing birds and wildlife to be seen. You'll need to duck down as you pass under some of the bridges which is fun but honestly this is such a peaceful way to spend an afternoon. Don't forget to take a hat and sunscreen though! Refreshments are available.
About 40 minutes away. Similar to 'Go Ape' in the UK. Here it's called "accrobranche" and Le Grand Defi is great for all ages. Not too expensive, the staff can speak English and are very professional. Indian Forest offers similar activities and is only 15 minutes away but we prefer Le Grand Defi!
Around 50 minutes away.... La Rochelle is a beautiful city and is connected by a bridge to the Ile de Re. A wonderful day out!
A medieval castle, a great place for children, lots to do and extremely interesting from a historical point of view.
Located between La Roche sur Yon and Cholet, about an hour away is this spectacular theme park which has won numerous awards. Based on historical events, there are shows throughout the day and a special evening show with fireworks. A fantastic day out that you won't regret!
Playbox 85 is an indoor play centre which is just great if you fancy a day out of the sun or if there's bad weather! There is a climbing centre, soft play, badminton, squash, indoor beach volleyball and lots more. It's just minutes from The Flaneries shopping centre in La Roche sur Yon, so if some members of your family prefer to shop, everyone can have the perfect day out!
My husband and I stayed here for a week in May and had a wonderful time. Everything was catered for and the spec was high end (big TV, washing machine, fridge, oven, cutlery, glasses/mugs etc, good shower..)
The weather was not at it's seasonal best, but there was a lovely patio outside with a sail awning to keep off the showers (shade when the sun shone!) and we could sit there in private.
It would be a lovely place to return to out of season too, as there is a cosy woodburner.
The owners Dave & Jo are delightful and bent over backwards to ensure our stay was comfortable, plus gave us some suggestions on what to do during our stay (such as telling us about a local restaurant in Angles to eat at on our first day of arrival and directions to the local supermarket).
Only a couple of miles away is a fantastic long beach, perfect for bodyboarding or surfing and/or for simply walking along and rock pooling!!
We visited Ile de Re whilst there, which is just under an hours drive away, despite being able to see the island from the local beach! (you have to drive round to the bridge to access it) and mooched around some local car boot sales!
The Gite is situated in a quiet rural setting, so perfect for some rest and relaxation.
We will definitely return and be recommending it to all our friends!!
We have spent a lovely holiday in Longville sur mer. This is a new area of France we’ve visited and would highly recommend , excellent beaches and attractions without the crowds of further south and the long drive. The owners are very hospitable, full of local knowledge and little touches in the accommodation show they’ve gone the extra mile to ensure a relaxed , comfortable stay. The gite is extremely clean, well equipped with nice outdoor space as well. Our children ages 14 & 9 have enjoyed body boarding at the local beaches which are a stones throw away , I enjoyed the local market and hubby the local wines from supermarkets which are again close by. We had fantastic weather and was a real treat coming back to such a relaxed property on the eve , it really felt like home from home. I would definitely return to this area of France and would thank the owners for sharing their knowledge and property with us. 10 out of 10
We had a wonderful holiday.
The gite was fantastic, very comfortable with every thing we needed and in a great location with plenty to do.
The owners were helpful and friendly, the children especially enjoyed being invited to meet the kittens!
We had such a great time we will be returning this summer.
