Lilac Cottage has recently been completely renovated by the current owners, being originally a farmhouse with grain store to the first floor, it is now a very comfortable and well-appointed 3 bedroom/2 bathroom holiday home.
The cottage is a great location for family holidays, with plenty of space to relax and play in the garden and around the swimming pool. There are lots of quiet country lanes to explore nearby - with marked cycle routes and lots of wildlife to see!
The heated pool will keep you amused all day, and there is a great patio terrace for evening barbecues and relaxing with a glass of local wine.
There are lots of tourist attractions within an hour's drive of Lilac Cottage - the miles of sandy beaches, Puy du Fou theme park, Fontenay-le-Comte and La Rochelle.
The kitchen is fully equipped with everything that you would need for a relaxing holiday.
There is a dishwasher, ceramic hob, electric oven, kettle, toaster & coffee maker, plus microwave oven, fridge/freezer and dining table overlooking the patio terrace.
There are double doors leading to the garden and the ground floor bedroom is located off of the kitchen.
A high chair is available for younger children.
The comfortable lounge has views out towards the garden and pool area and has been well furnished.
There is a wood burner for the cooler months, plus a tv with UK & french free-to-air tv channels, a dvd player and a dining table seating up to 6 guests.
An oak staircase leads from the lounge to the first floor and a washing machine can be found in a walk-in cupboard to the rear of the lounge.
A stair gate can be fitted to the top and bottom of the staircase for the safety of younger children.
There are three bedrooms in Lilac Cottage, all with great views across the gardens.
Bedroom 1 is on the ground floor and has an en suite shower room attached. There is a double bed, chest of drawers and a hanging rail for your clothes.
Bedroom 2 is on the first floor and has a king sized bed, bedside tables, drawers and a hanging rail.
Bedroom 3 is also on the first floor and has two single beds.
All bedrooms are tastefully decorated and all bed linens are provided.
A full sized cot and travel cot can be provided if required.
There is a family bathroom on the first floor, with a full-sized bath, overhead shower, wc and hand basin.
The ground floor double bedroom has an en suite shower room with shower cubicle, wc and hand basin.
All bath, hand and tea towels are provided, but please bring your own pool/beach towels.
There are electric radiators in each of the rooms, plus a wood burner in the lounge for the cooler months.
A quantity of wood is also supplied for the burner.
The heated swimming pool is the main entertainment for this cottage - 11m x 4m, plus steps down to the water and open from May until the end of September each year.
There is also a croquet set, ping pong table, swing, boules and lots of ball games to play with in the garden.
In the lounge there is a tv with all of the free-to-air tv channels so you can catch up with the soaps or watch CBBC!
The centre piece of the lawned gardens is the 11m x 4m heated swimming pool.
This is open from May until the end of September each year and has an electric roll-out cover for the security of young children. There is a selection of sunloungers dotted around the pool, plus parasols for when you have had too much sun!
Directly outside the house is a large terraced area - with a patio table and chairs, parasols, a barbecue and a double swing seat to relax on.
There is also a woodland area in the garden that backs directly out onto fields of barley, and sometimes, sunflowers. You can often see some of the local wildlife walking through the woods - deer, genet, pheasants and more.
The pool and garden area is shared with the property owners who live onsite in the adjoining cottage and the pool may be used by the owners when not in use by their guests.
The patio terrace is private to Lilac Cottage.
Access to the cottage is via a private driveway, and there is a large off-road parking area in the garden for up to 3 cars.
If you bring bikes or a roof rack with you, then there is a shelter to store them.
This house would be suitable for guests with limited mobility as there is a bedroom with en suite shower room on the ground floor, but it would not be suitable for wheelchair users.
Hello, we are Sue & David and we live in the Vendée, next door to our holiday home, so are always available to offer advice and the odd glass of local wine or two!! Our holiday home rentals are managed by Annette Khan, who also lives in the Vendée so is able to give lots of local tips on where to visit.

|Why this location?||We were looking for a holiday home that was not too far from the UK, but one that would make a great place for family holidays. We loved the area - originally falling in love with the Ile de Ré, and eventually finding Lilac Cottage in Saint Valerien. It is tucked away in a quiet village, but has so much to do within an hour's drive - Puy du Fou, the beaches, Fontenay, La Rochelle & the Ile de Ré to name a few. We love meeting up with local friends in the village bar and enjoy visiting the many attractions in the area.|
|Unique benefits of property||Lilac Cottage has been completely renovated over the last 2 years and is now laid out as a very comfortable 3 bedroom holiday home with a heated pool, landscaped gardens and sunny patio terrace. An ideal place to escape the rat-race and enjoy some quality time relaxing by the pool, sipping a glass of local wine.|
A great day out - and only an hour away from Lilac Cottage. The ile de Ré will enchant you with its windswept beaches, pretty village streets lined with wild hollyhocks and amazing seafood restaurants. A stroll around the winding streets of La Flotte and its daily market will give you an appetite for lunch in one of the many harbour side restaurants. Then on to St Martin to see the Donkeys in pyjamas, climb the Bell Tower and see the panoramic views from the top.
La Rochelle has a bustling pleasure harbour surrounded by restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by, or take a boat out to Fort Boyard or the Ile d'Aix. In the evenings the harbour area is pedestrianized and street entertainers fill the air with music and laughter. The colourful market and the colonnaded shopping streets full of boutiques are a great place to wander through and pick up some local specialities. La Rochelle hosts many festivals throughout the year - lots are free and there is always something happening in the town. There is also a fantastic aquarium - with a large shark tanks, Nemos and tropical rain forest area.
The Puy du Fou Theme Park is a 'Must-See' for anyone visiting the Vendée! You will be amazed at the many shows - with Gladiators, Vikings, Medieval Knights, Musketeers and Napoleonic sailors - not forgetting the fantastic 'Bal des Oiseaux Fantomes' - a spectacular Bird of prey show with eagles, vultures, owls and storks, plus so much more! There is also a choice of late evening show - one set around a lake, with fountains and fireworks and the other - The Cinescenie - having over 1100 actors and an amazing storyline.
