6.3 / 10 The Brown-pots 2 September, 2018

We found the booking process quite hap-hazard initially, and we began to be concerned that it was a faux web site, eventually we heard back from the owner. On arrival we found the house disappointing, we disliked the lay-out and the level of cleanliness was poor. It looked a bit neglected and there was little attention to detail. Two of the beds were made with flat valances laid over their mattreses instead of sheets and there was no additional bedding available to correct them. They had to sleep on them for 10 days, which we do not feel is acceptable. The kitchen is too small to prepare food for a family as all cupboards are stuffed with crockery and all work tops are covered with 'stuff'.
There was no customer service at all, the information booklet is a tiny notebook with about 3 pages about the property and 3 pages of out of date information about the local area. We had issues with the dustbin collection and we contacted the owner and she just sent a curt message back to say that she would deal with it and did not even enquire whether we were having a nice holiday!
The house offers a lovely big space but the sitting room furniture is uncomfortable, but there is a fantastic selection of DVDs and books.
We enjoyed the area a lot and found the beaches and local towns lovely, we would love to return there but would not want to stay in this house again and would not recommend it.
We went to Futurescope in Potiers and we had a fantastic day. The house feels UNLOVED.

Owner response

This is a return comment from the Property Managers. We have been with HFD for 13 years we are therefore taken aback at the review having received 5* ratings! This is our first year in managing this particular property, Pine Tree House, and we have taken one booking directly. We do take on board your comments and always listen in order to improve the quality of each stay. We will make endeavors to speak to the owner and de-clutter although the furnishings are of good quality. In terms of contact we have since had time to examine our communications and see that we have responded promptly on each occasion. We always point our guests to our website which provides information as to the house, area and places to go. We repeatedly supply this and it is on the Holiday France Direct Website ,available to each client prior to and during stay. Our full contact details are provided on this site for any problem which may occur and certainly had I been aware of the bedding situation I would have immediately sent someone in to rectify but I received no such complaint.
I apologize if my colleague seemed abrupt and I am sure that this was unintentional, she is indeed highly regarded by our clients.
Regarding the bins I am aware from your visit that there has been a problem generally with bin collection and I will take this up with the Marie however this was out of our control. A Place in the Vendee is a UK based limited company and clearly not a 'faux' site
