|Why this location?||They chose this area as it is within 20 minutes drive of the sandy beaches in the Southern Vendée. There are so many different beaches to choose from - great for surfing, body boarding, building sandcastles or just relaxing. They are also good for dog walks and bird watching!|
|Unique benefits of property||The gite is set in a small village on the edge of a natural wetland plain - full of migratory birds in winter, so a haven for birdwatchers. It is only a 20 minute drive to the beaches and less than an hour to La Rochelle or Les Sables d'Olonne. The O'Gliss Water Park is only 15 minutes away and the amazing Puy du Fou Park is around an hour away. There is so much to do - you'll need at least a 2 week holiday!|
This family friendly water park is only a 15 minute drive from Gite de la Moutonnerie. There are water slides, a beach with waves, a children's play pool with pirate ship and river tubes to float along. Plenty to do for all of the family and a whole day out! Book in advance!
Every week there are lots of colourful markets within a short drive of Curzon and Gite de la Moutonnerie. On Sundays the streets fill up in La Faute sur Mer with stalls selling local fruit & veg, seafood caught that day, lovely cheeses and meats, plus you can taste some of the local wines from the Fief Vendée. On Saturdays head to La Tranche or L'Aiguillon. and at La Rochelle or La Roche sur Yon there is a large covered market hall that is open most days of the week.
This is an amazing award winning Theme Park set in the North of the Vendée. There are no rides - just fantastic shows - with a full sized coliseum and gladiators, marauding Vikings, knights on horseback, duelling musketeers and Napoleonic sailors. And don't miss the 'Bal des Oiseaux Fantomes' - the best bird of prey show that you will ever see. In the evenings there is a spectacular finale show set around the ruined chateau and lake, with a cast of over 1100 actors and fireworks to end with. Not to be missed!
We really enjoyed our stay. The gite had tonnes of character and old world charm. The bedrooms were comfortable and cosy. We were able to cater for ourselves with ease in the small but well equipped kitchen area. The garden was a beautiful and relaxing place to sit and read, barbecue or enjoy a glass of wine. The real hit with our kids, however, was the games room, equipped with dart board, pool table, board games, DVD player with English language DVDs and outside: a ping pong table.
The house is set in the rural village of Curzon, which seemed like a bit of a ghost town. Be aware that you will probably have to drive to get anywhere as there isn’t even a shop in the village to get milk or bread. The gite is located amongst working farms, so expect the accompanying animal/machinery noise. Nearby, however there are beautiful beaches, a water park, supermarkets etc. Our favourite place was La Tranche sur Mer. A lively town with good restaurants, thriving shopping streets for buying your seaside necessities and great beaches nearby. We also visited beaches at Les Conches, Le Veillon and the fishing village of Port Bourgenay where there was an evening market and we had an excellent meal looking out over the harbour.
Thank you to the owners for allowing us to stay in their wonderful property. Got home yesterday and we miss it already.
