About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Joanne Aylott

My name is Jo and I moved from Bristol to the Vendee in 2012. I live with my husband Dave and our son, Jenson who is 11 years old. Dave renovated the house as it had been empty for 12 years before our arrival and needed a lot of work! I teach English in a language centre and University in La Roche sur Yon, which I love. It has been a great adventure!

Year property purchased 2000
Why this location? Very peaceful location but not far from the coast and just ten minutes from the popular resorts of La Tranche-sur-Mer and Jard-sur-Mer. Beautiful beaches on your doorstep and so many things to see and do in the area....
Unique benefits of property The property sleeps 8 comfortably so is suitable for two families of four. Two bedrooms and a bathroom at different sides of the house with lots of communal living space in between. The house also benefits from a very big garden with play equipment for children and is just a stones throw from the waterways where you can enjoy canoeing.

The Owner Recommends

Jard-sur-Mer and La Tranche-sur-Mer

Just ten minutes away there is the beautiful coastal town and port of Jard-sur-Mer with lots of character, great restaurants and gorgeous beaches. La Tranche-sur-Mer is extremely popular with tourists and offers an array of shops, cafes and restaurants. Its seafront is superb. There is a market in the town square every Saturday morning and a free bus that the children will love to hop on and see the sites! There are also indoor and outdoor swimming pools with a slide.

O'Gliss Waterpark

Fantastic fun for both adults and children alike. O'Gliss water park opened in July, 2016 and proved to be extremely popular! Just ten minutes away.

Port Bourgenay

A beautiful place with a small selection of restaurants overlooking the boats. Just moments away on the road to yet another fantastic beach there is a great 'old fashioned' children's park and mini golf course (La Beliere Loisirs) which although you have to pay a few euros to get in is well worth it! Great for a very sunny day as it's beautifully shaded by the trees. Super place to take a picnic!

Maison du Marais

Just two minutes drive from our house. Take a boat or canoe around the waterways of Longeville-sur-Mer (between 1-2 hours depending on how fit your feeling!) Amazing birds and wildlife to be seen. You'll need to duck down as you pass under some of the bridges which is fun but honestly this is such a peaceful way to spend an afternoon. Don't forget to take a hat and sunscreen though! Refreshments are available.

Le Grand Defi, St Julian des Landes

About 40 minutes away. Similar to 'Go Ape' in the UK. Here it's called "accrobranche" and Le Grand Defi is great for all ages. Not too expensive, the staff can speak English and are very professional. Indian Forest offers similar activities and is only 15 minutes away but we prefer Le Grand Defi!

Local markets

There are lots of local markets but the closest is in Longeville-sur-Mer in the market square every Monday and Friday during July and August.

La Rochelle and the Ile de Re

Around 50 minutes away.... La Rochelle is a beautiful city and is connected by a bridge to the Ile de Re. A wonderful day out!

Chateau at Talmont St Hilaire

A medieval castle, a great place for children, lots to do and extremely interesting from a historical point of view.

Puy du Fou Theme Park

Located between La Roche sur Yon and Cholet, about an hour away is this spectacular theme park which has won numerous awards. Based on historical events, there are shows throughout the day and a special evening show with fireworks. A fantastic day out that you won't regret!
