About the Owner/Advertiser, Mrs Annette Khan

We are Juliet and Paul, and we bought this lovely old stone cottage in 2019. We live in the UK, but have plans to retire in France, so in the meantime we have decided to rent out the property. We have asked Annette Khan, a local holiday property manager, to take over all of the reservations and guest contact.

Year property purchased 2019
Why this location? As a family we had often taken our holidays in France and had visited the Vendée several times - even staying at Gite des Moines! When we heard that it was up for sale - we jumped at the chance of buying it as it is in such a lovely location! It is within walking distance of lots of boutique shops, a friendly bakery and several cafés and restaurants. The village is so pretty and often holds fetes and fairs over the summer.
Unique benefits of property If, like us, you enjoy being able to walk to a bakery in the morning for your croissants and pain au chocolat, or to sit and watch the world go by in a local café, or head off into the countryside for a hike or a spot of wine tasting - then this gite is for you!
The village dates back to medieval times and is full of interesting buildings, winding cobbled streets and lovely countryside views.
Also, unusually for Vouvant - Gite des Moines has a large garden - perfect for sunbathing, relaxing and al fresco dining!

The Owner Recommends

Petit Cité de Caractère - Vouvant

Vouvant is a very pretty village in the Vendée countryside and in the past, has won the coverted title of being one of France's 'Plus Beaux Villages'. The centre is made up of buildings dating back to Medieval times - with cobbled streets, stone bridges and ramparts on the hillside. There is even a castle tower in the centre. The village is famous for its artist colony - and over the summer, there are often Open Days where you can enter the workshops of the artists, chat with them and buy some of their works.

Fontenay le Comte

Vouvant is only a 15 minute drive from the pretty renaissance town of Fontenay le Comte. Here you will find a thriving weekly market spilling out onto the streets - selling local cheese, meats and freshly caught seafood. The larger supermarkets are here too, plus lots of cafés, restaurants and local shops.
There is a 'Parc About' leisure park - where you can scramble through the trees in raised nettings, a quiet park behind the town hall and lots of interesting architecture to see.

Puy du Fou Theme Park

Less than an hour from Vouvant is the Puy du Fou Park. This is the Must See attraction of the Vendée and you can easily spend one or two days exploring the park, watching all of the shows and even staying over night in one of the themed hotels. This is not your traditional 'Theme Park' - it's so much better! With Gladiators, Knights, Vikings, Birds of Prey and a fantastic evening show. Open from April until November each year.

Marais Poitevin Regional Park

For a tranquil day out, head towards the Marais Poitevin Regional Park. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty - dotted with canal side villages, ruined abbeys and centuries of history to explore. You can hire a boat and row along the canals, or take a walk along the many towpaths. A perfect place for seeing the local flora and fauna.
