A cosy rural (yet not remote!), well equipped holiday cottage - ideal as a base to explore this beautiful region. The cottage is located within the Ariege Pyrenees Regional Natural Park boundaries in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Gites Melanie and Menezil are adjoining gites with independent facilities and entrances.
The kitchen/dining area is open plan and leads out onto a covered terrace opening out towards the garden area - abundant with fruit in high season!
All household linen is supplied and the kitchen is equipped with fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee machine, gas/electric oven and hob and good storage space.
The lounge area is open plan and comfortably furnished. French satellite tv (Fransat) is provided along with a cd/radio player, dvd player and free wi-fi.
One double and one twin room offering plenty of storage - all bed linen is supplied.
A shower room with separate wc next door. Towels supplied.
All electric heating via convector radiators - not normally required during the Summer months and charged at 50€ per week if needed.
There is a large, fenced outside, grassed garden area and we provide some outdoor games and a gas bbq.
Free parking is available directly across the road from the gites - suitable for one car per gite. The gites are accessed by 10 small steps - not suitable for those with reduced mobility.
Ideal for adult couples or families with older children. No adapted access for those with reduced mobility.
Hi we're originally from the UK and have lived in the stunning Ariege Pyrenees since 2005. We opened our gites in 2008 and have been lucky enough to welcome guests from all over the world since then. We're passionate about our unspoilt corner of Southwest France and love to share our experiences with visitors to the region!

A great venue on Monday mornings in the wonderful, authentic medieval 'bastide' town of Mirepoix (actually a cité because of it's Cathedral!). The best market in the area with a great buzz - best soaked up in one of the many cafes where you can watch the world go by!
A genuine symbol of the medieval era, dominates the town of Foix. Come on a visit full of discovery and emotion !
A navigable underground river less than 5km from our gites. Embark on friendly visit in a 60 meters underground journey. The tour, which extends over 1500 meters, will surprise you by the variety of its landscapes and its geological wealth.
The Château de Montségur is a former fortress near Montségur, a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. Its ruins are the site of a razed stronghold of the Cathars
The fun participative workshops at the Prehistory Park in Tarascon sur Ariège guarantee total immersion in the heart of our Magdalenlian ancestors’ daily life. (The men and woman who lived in the Niaux caves)
In a rural setting, a shady 5-hectare park, crossed by a river, lies an unforgettable village… A village of old but very much alive, where trades and tools from the old days take pride of choice once again. 5 km from Foix, come and enjoy a period of History with Philip (Zeze), Didier, Kamel the famous onsite blacksmith, shoemaker, baker and schoolmaster. They shed light on the actions and methods of a bygone but very revolutionary era. The space museum and its collection of 6,500 tools rounds off a visit full of moments worth sharing. Both the young and old will love it!
Carcassonne, a city imbued with the spirit of the past, boasts 2500 years of history and is privileged to have two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Canal du Midi, classified in 1996, and the Medieval City in 1997.
35km from our gites and a lovely place to spend a hot Summer day - lots of walks, watersports, swimming, beaches with restaurants nearby.

The Château de Roquefixade is a ruined castle built on a cliff overlooking the village of Roquefixade, situated 8 km west of Lavelanet French département of Ariège.
Lake of 45 hectares - access all year round
From mid-June to 28 August: every day, groups from 10am to 1pm, individual from 1pm to 7pm. The Teleski is a 760 m long water ski circuit, it is designed to essentially drag you through the water using motorised cables. 8 simultaneous skiers - thanks to a double cable. Beginners and advanced water skiers alike will be able to enjoy this invigorating and nature-friendly recreational sport. tandem-ski, Wake Boards, paddle boards and of course... pedalos!
